Android :: Unable To Set Camera Picture Size On Samsung Galaxy

As title - having tried everything I could find already suggested, I've completely run out of options. I'm unable to set the picture size taken by the camera on the Samsung Galaxy.
I don't set preview size anywhere and I've tried the ShutterCallback trick. On checking the camera parameters before and after attempting to change the size, I get the correct results - the camera *reports* that its size has now been changed... however, the size of the byte array I'm receiving in the onPictureTaken() callback is only consistent with the camera's default (enormous) image - and forces an OutOfMemoryError when I attempt to decode it into a bitmap!

No matter what I do I cannot make the final camera image be smaller than the gigantic 5MP which effectively crashes the poor old BitmapFactory.
The ShutterCallback trick is in use. Does somebody have some other ideas?
Boy, it feels like going all the way back to J2ME.

I am having an issue w/ 2.0 in the emulator when I am trying to set a couple of parameters. Including the size.
It appears these messages appear.. I guess my question is, why is the picture size stuck at 213x350? If I set my picture size to 640x480 it fails.

I take pictures with my regular camera. Put the pics on my PC. I then want to transfer them to my phone and when I try to view them on my phone, I get the broken picture icon. The phone's largest picture that it will take is 4128x3096. The pictures I am transferring are 4608x3456. Is this the reason why I can not view these pics on my phone? I transferred with media setting and camera setting when the phone was hooked up to the PC. It gave me the same result with the broken pic icon.

Is there a way to make the contact photo larger, especially on call id screns and such, it seems weird that there is a huge box when you are making a call but the pictures stay in a little thumbnail.

whats the size that you should have a picture optimally to use as a wallpaper on the Captivate? i tried using some pics that were 480x800, but they didnt quite look AS good when scrolling through different screens via LauncherPro....

Anyone have a problem not being able to see received picture mail?? people send me a photo and sometimes it just makes a received text sound and i see nothing, or i see the image in the little bubble i click it and then it disappears as if i never got it. i can send picture mail just fine and it shows up on both ends as sent/received on friends phone. however when they send one it barely ever shows me

All the specs posted on the blogs say the galaxy phones are "expandable to 32GB". Does this mean you can add 16GB card to get a total of 32GB, or that you can add 32GB for a total of 48GB? The way it's been worded on all the sites I get the impression that the max SD card you can put in is 16GB but that seems silly. Can anyone confirm? I'm looking at the US versions, most likely the AT&T Captivate.

From the Greek guy that recently compared Super Amoled vs Amoled vs Lcd....
He says that the 5mpx camera is excellent in day but in dark places without the flash it is not very good....the 720p is nice but he is not impressed.

The following works fine on a G1 but gives an error on the Samsung Galaxy. I was hoping cross-platform support would be better than this. See error below.

Has anyone been able to get the camera to focus on small items? I was trying to take a picture of a praying mantis on a flower today and could not get it to focus on the insect. I tried different settings including macro and portrait etc. Anyone have any tips on how to get this camera to focus on an object this small?

In my application, I will get a instance of android.graphics.picture which is populated by user. Then I use writeToStream to save. After save, I have to check the file size. If the size is too large, then I should delete this file.
I think this save-check-delete operation is not reasonable. I prefer to check the size of android.graphics.picture. If the size is too large, I should not save to local. But I checked android.graphics.picture, it only have getHeight and getWidth member functions.
Could I get the size of android.graphics.picture?

My DInc takes great pictures in the day, and my so-so night pics can now be fixed to look quite decent. Anyway, question is this. When I chose to get a picture to edit, it asked me what size I wanted for it. I chose maximum size and chose the option to always pick that size. I normally take pics in 8 megs, will a photo edited by Picsay be lower in quality than the original, or just about the same? Also, is there any way I can default the app to just ask me what size I want to edit pics in? (Rather than maximum size being the default)

I wanted to change the size of my icons, so that more of them could fit on the screen. So I download LCD Density Modder and Increased the amount to 160. After I booted my phone, my screen got zoomed in instead of decreasing. Now I cant even type up my password cause the numbers can't fit in the screen. I have no access to my phone because my phone is locked. Btw, I have a Samsung Galaxy Fit S5670 (rooted) .

I'm trying to get Facebook profile pictures assigned to internal phone contacts, but cant get it to work. I installed the recently updated Facebook app, at the first launch it asked me if I want to sync my contacts, I selected Sync with exisiting contacts (later I selected Sync all since first option didnt work) but still profile pictures are not being fetched. I can now see facebook contacts in my main contact list, and I can link them with my phone contacts (manually), but profile picture is still blank. When I click the View profile (facebook) link of a particular contact I'm taken to my profile page instead of the person i clicked on. And when I select Edit and go to Facebook tab there is an error with an exclamation mark with the message "Unable to edit SNS contacts on phone".

In my activity I show the camera preview on a surfaceView. It works perfectly fine on Nexus One and HTC Desire, but on Samsung Galaxy S I see strange lines, weird proportions and everything three times. see the Screenshot below.
The issue seems to be similar to this one: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2053440/camera-preview-on-androd-strange-lines-on-1-5-version-of-sdk but none of the comments there helped. I tried to swap height,width for the camera parameters, but not much of a difference.
(Side note: my activity is always in landscape mode, fixed. I have that fix in my manifest as screenOrientation parameters, in case that matters somehow).
