View 8 Replies View RelatedAt a press conference in New Delhi, the VP of marketing made a comment that galaxy s won't be updated to Android 2.2
Comments made were as followed:-
UPDATE: The Galaxy S wont be able to update to Android 2.2 and above. It will remain on Android 2.1.
UPDATE 2: Samsung will update the Galaxy S to 2.2 from their manufacturing facility. No word on the timing but those new devices will run on Android 2.2. They are still working on how to upgrade current units that are running on Android 2.1.

]I got a samsung galaxy s on contract with t mobile in the uk. When I go on kies I see that there is a firmware update available but it says that its not available for my handset.
Now my baseband number is I9000boJF1 and my firmware version is 2.r update. I heard some post say recently that 2.2 update is only available for payg handsets and not contract handsets is that true? If the froyo update is still out there for t mobile then i will wait but if it is not coming at all then can someone post me how i can use the odin method to upgrade. Note my baseband version, last time I used odin with wrong files and it messed my galaxy s.
By typing *#1234# I get
PDA: I9000BOJG3
Phone: I9000BOJF1
CSC: I9000GTMUJG1
I want to update my samsung galaxy s with froyo 2.2.
View 7 Replies View RelatedHaving just purchased my first smart phone last week (Galaxy S) I am having a complete nightmare updating to FROYO with Kies.I know this has been done to death on this and various other forums but is there any possible way to upgrade the firmware without Kies as ive been trying for 3 nights now but absolutely nothing works to get my phone to connect to Kies.I have tried every tip and suggestion from this and other forums and all result in my phone telling me its connected but Kies on my PC just spinning away saying trying to connect.I can connect to my PC in Mass storage mode and transfer files no problem but Kies is just a complete nightmare.Over the short period of time ive had the phone I think its a fantastic piece of kit and am still learning about all that it can do but am getting seriously frustrated by not being able to do what should be a simple task!

View 2 Replies View RelatedI tried getting Kies to install the Froyo update on my Galaxy S (i live in the UK) using the registry hack that has been widely published. It didn't work and I ended up witha slightly newer version of 2.1 than I already had. Phone seemed to work fine, until I put my SIM card back in. It immediately restarted itself as soon as I tried to use 3G.
I went through all the settings, everything seemed to be the same as it was before the flash, but still it restarted everytime I connected to the 3G network.
Sooo, I decided to try and restore it to the previous firmware version again by changing the KIES regisrty values. Everything seemed to go well, phone downloaded the correct version, installed it fine etc and then KIES notified me that the firmware upgrade was succesful and the phone will now reboot.
Only it didnt.
It turned off and hasn't turned back on since
It doesn't get recognised when plugged into USB, it doesn't even show a charging logo when plugged into the mains. It does get VERY warm when I leave the battery in for 10 minutes or so though.
I've tried all the three button combos posted around, I've taken the battery out and in and out and in etc etc... nothing. It's a shiny 9mm thick brick now
After upgrading to Froyo 2.2, Swype started to behave strangely. I noticed that with Froyo 2.2, Swype also got a newer version. However, the performance is much worst when compared to the previous version. Here is the summary of the issues which i noticed:
1. Incorrect word recognition. 30%-40% increase in incorrect recognition
2. Much higher CPU usage (hence battery drain)
3. Very bad performance in portrait mode as compared to landscape mode
Maybe quite a lot of SGSers are dying to know how the Froyo update progresses across the globe. I know about Sweden and Norway so far. Please let us know if the update appears in KIES in your country. It would be a nice extra if you'd publish your product code too.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am from Italy and own a samsung i9000 s.bought from a wind shop ( but unlocked to all networks ). When I enter Kies and try to do an update it says that I already have the latest version. I checked and mine is Eclair 2.1 . was wondering if anybody know if WIND have the release of froyo 2.2 available on their network. I am moving my number to TIM mobile operator tomorrow anyway. Maybe some ideeas on that? I would really really like to upgrade as I have heard that Froyo really works alot better on sgs . Really now but for a phone that I have paied 550 euros I expect no lag and better start time of apps...and well alot of stuff. If that doesn't happent I'll just ask for my money back and go for the Iphone 4. not really what I want but my Iphone 3gs was performing better than this newer faster ( 1ghz..and 512 ram ) Samsung Galaxy S. SO PLEASE do cooment and let me know about what you think.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy unbranded SGS is currently running 2.2 (I9000XXJPM, FROYO.XWJP6) which I updated via the registery hack last month. It's running smooth and I've not had any problems My question is, what is the difference between my existing version and the 'offical' Froyo 2.2 that will be released soon? Would I be able to update my firmware to the newer version since I'm already on 2.2 (I9000XXJPM, FROYO.XWJP6)?

View 5 Replies View RelatedAll the specs posted on the blogs say the galaxy phones are "expandable to 32GB". Does this mean you can add 16GB card to get a total of 32GB, or that you can add 32GB for a total of 48GB? The way it's been worded on all the sites I get the impression that the max SD card you can put in is 16GB but that seems silly. Can anyone confirm? I'm looking at the US versions, most likely the AT&T Captivate.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAs title - having tried everything I could find already suggested, I've completely run out of options. I'm unable to set the picture size taken by the camera on the Samsung Galaxy.
I don't set preview size anywhere and I've tried the ShutterCallback trick. On checking the camera parameters before and after attempting to change the size, I get the correct results - the camera *reports* that its size has now been changed... however, the size of the byte array I'm receiving in the onPictureTaken() callback is only consistent with the camera's default (enormous) image - and forces an OutOfMemoryError when I attempt to decode it into a bitmap!
It looks like I'm having a similar issue to this user: http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/threa... - but unfortunately it looks like no solution was found then, either :
No matter what I do I cannot make the final camera image be smaller than the gigantic 5MP which effectively crashes the poor old BitmapFactory.
The ShutterCallback trick is in use. Does somebody have some other ideas?
Boy, it feels like going all the way back to J2ME.
The following works fine on a G1 but gives an error on the Samsung Galaxy. I was hoping cross-platform support would be better than this. See error below.
private final static int RATE = 44100; private final static int CHANNEL_MODE = AudioFormat.CHANNEL_CONFIGURATION_MONO; private final static int ENCODING = AudioFormat.ENCODING_PCM_16BIT; private AudioRecord recorder_; public boolean open() { int bufferSize = 4 * AudioRecord.getMinBufferSize(RATE, CHANNEL_MODE, ENCODING); recorder_ = new AudioRecord(AudioSource.MIC, RATE, CHANNEL_MODE, ENCODING, bufferSize);
last line gives the following on the Samsung Galaxy phone: 11-14 19:04:07.507: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(7617): java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Invalid audio buffer size.
I wanted to change the size of my icons, so that more of them could fit on the screen. So I download LCD Density Modder and Increased the amount to 160. After I booted my phone, my screen got zoomed in instead of decreasing. Now I cant even type up my password cause the numbers can't fit in the screen. I have no access to my phone because my phone is locked. Btw, I have a Samsung Galaxy Fit S5670 (rooted) .

I'm missing space on my phone, and seemed to the software I have installed on the phone is hard to see it properly.
And everything works perfectly! Ok i had to do a factory reset after the update (after backing up my contacts), but now it works faster, is more beautiful and of course Flash player is installed. A lot of little neat things were added as well. So i am happy and you should be too! Go update through KIES! Froyo should be there!
