Can I use the DCIM folder and assume all phones will use that location?

I'm just looking for some insight into what would be the best way for me to store images as part of my app. I have an activity that represents a 'Job' which has a couple of edittext's and underneath was planning on using the Gallery component to show images relevant to this job. The job data is stored in a database (on the sdcard) so was also thinking of creating a table to store 'JobImages' and having each image stored as a byte array.
But I'm not sure if it would be better to store the images directly on sdcard under a folder structure specific to my application and the job. E.g. using the job ID number as a folder name. Depending on which method I use will greatly determine the code that goes into an 'adapter' that allows me to bind to the gallery component so before I begin I was wondering if anyone has had the same design problem and what option they chose.

New problem *sigh* getting to be quite annoyed with HTC/Android. Gone from excitement to frustration.I have Google apps for my domain with a custom email matt@mydomain.com (example)I use Exchange ActiveSync to access my emails, calendar and contacts on my phone.I have been having the same frustrations of others when things stop syncing but this is usually fixed by either putitng in a wrong password and then the right one or by removing the Exchange ActiveSync account and then readding it. Unfortunately this how now ceased to work. Yesterday afternoon my phone stopped syncing email and showed the little circle with arrows icon with an exclamation next to it. I left it overnight thinking it might have been a Google glitch or something rather than the phone but its still not working now getting close to 24 hours later.I have tried putting a wrong password and the the correct one and it still fails to sync (calendar works etc)I have tried several times removing the account and the readding it again but it still fails to do mail. Instead a little message shows at the bottom of the screen saying "Error accessing a remote resource". I google searching this on the web and also on this forum and found no results of any value or help

Set the image background path as package:imageName Example. At runtime , my package is com.test.android .Inside that i have an image whose path i want to mention in the XML layout file as android:src = com.test.android/img1 for an ImageButton.I saw an SDK reference for ImageView as android:src = @[+][package:]type:name.But i am not getting how to use it.I think it must not be possibe , but if there is any way , please specify.The reason why i want to do this is that,when i specify a drawable at runtime for my image buttons, i change the images according to Focus received, or onKeyup, KeyDown.. but its not working as expected.When i mention the same thing as style under drawable, it works fine. So if my theme is going to change at runtime, i want to set the drawable at runtime, keepnig the path same in the xml.

Can I have sub-folders to hold my drawable resources. For example can I store an image in, say, 'res/drawable/content/images/myimage.jpg' and then find that resource via a call to:
id = context.getResources().getIdentifier("com.mycompany.myprog:drawable/ content/images/myimage", null, null);
I have tried this and it doesn't seem to be working (but I may have something wrong). Is it supposed to work or do all the resources need to be in the root drawable folder? Also, are jpeg files supported and drawable resources?

My 1.6 app works fine in both portrait and landscape modes on the default HVGA device. I'm now trying to support it on QVGA devices and am encountering build-time errors I don't understand. In my res/drawable-ldpi directory I have:
startstopin.png startstopout.png and a selector file
startstopbuttonimageselector.xml
which contains:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item android:state_pressed="true" android:drawable="@drawable-ldpi/startstopin" />
<!-- pressed --> <item android:drawable="@drawable-ldpi/startstopout" />
<!-- default --> </selector>
I've 'fixed project properties' and done a 'clean' build, to no avail. The error I get is:
Error: No resource found that matches the given name (at 'drawable' with value '@drawable-ldpi/startstopin').
Error: No resource found that matches the given name (at 'drawable' with value '@drawable-ldpi/startstopout').
I've tried adding a layout file in res/layout-small that explicitly references this selector file, but this triggers a similar build error and fails to address the original problem:
Error: No resource found that matches the given name (at 'src' with value '@drawable-ldpi/startstopbuttonimageselector').

I want do display some images that I load from a remote source in a gallery. The gallery should let the user do the following things:
-zoom the image (preferably also by pinch-zoom) -pan the image -switch between the different images
Of course most built-in gallery applications can do all of that. So my first idea was to use an ACTION_VIEW intent in order to delegate the task to some gallery application. This however won't work for me since you can only pass the URI of the image you want to display but not the actual bitmap data itself. I can't just pass the URL of the remote image because I need to manage the loading and caching of the data myself. A way around this would be to write the data to a local file and then pass the URI of that file (and deleting the file again afterward). Besides this being less than elegant it won't even do the trick because with an intent like this you can only pass one image at a time.
The built-in Facebook application on the Nexus One actually does exactly what I have in mind for displaying photo albums. It looks like a custom gallery activity they built into their application. Does anyone know whether there are templates available for something like this somewhere that one could reuse? Building something like this from scratch by myself seems too time consuming.

My application requires that when a snapshot is taken it must store in memory and next time when I restart the phone I must get a thumbnail of that photo in list of photos and the full scale photo when I click on it.There are 2 ways I know.
1. Store images directly. Concern here is every time it has to hit directory to get image which takes some time.
2. Store all images in single xml. Concern here is XML will be too big and takes time to parse.

There are a few G1 users reporting that my app won't display images. I can only imagine this is because they don't have an SD card. My app is heavy on images. Is it appropriate to store images on the internal memory? I don't even know if there'd be enough space.

I want to write code to display the images only from a particular folder in sd card. e.g a folder named b'day(/sdcard/pictures/b'day). I have the following code, but it displays all the images in the sd card. What should I add/change in the following code to accomplish my objective.
private void displayGallery() { Uri uri = MediaStore.Images.Thumbnails.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI;
String[] projection = { MediaStore.Images.ImageColumns._ID,
// The columns we want
MediaStore.Images.Thumbnails.IMAGE_ID, MediaStore.Images.Thumbnails.KIND };
String selection = MediaStore.Images.Thumbnails.KIND + "=" + // Select only mini's MediaStore.Images.Thumbnails.MINI_KIND;
mCursor = this.managedQuery(uri, projection, selection, null, null);
if (mCursor != null) { mCursor.moveToFirst();
ImageAdapter adapter = new ImageAdapter (mCursor, this);
Log.i(TAG, "displayGallery(), adapter = " + adapter.getCount());
mGallery.setAdapter(adapter); mGallery.setOnItemClickListener(this);
} }

I have been working on creating a Grid View of images, with images being present in the Assets folder. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1933015/opening-an-image-file-inside-the-assets-folder link helped me with using the bitmap to read it.My application does read the image from the Assets folder, but it is not iterating through the cells in the grid view. All the cells of the grid view have a same image picked from the set of images. Can anyone tell me how to iterate through the cells and still have different images?

I have an application that uses a lot of png textures. There are too many to store with the app, so they are installed onto the SDCARD instead. The problem is that the default android gallery is seeing the png textures and is cluttering up the user's gallery screens with them. Is there a way to mark this resource folder in a particular manner so that Gallery will skip over it? Ideally, i'd like this to be something that my app can set so that the user doesn't have to do it.

hdpi means High-dpi
mdpi means medium-dpi
ldpi means low-dpi
But still in confusion that what is the exact purpose of these 3 folders and when to use particular folder to store images in that?

I recently rebuilt my project to target 2.2 from 2.1. In the old project, I did not specify a target SDK (the manifest did not contain something like:
<uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="8" />).
This gave me an error in the console when running, but everything worked fine so I didn't fool with it.
The new project now uses <uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="8" /> in the manifest. But now my drawables from the /drawable-nodpi/ folder are loading with scaling, making them much smaller and significantly changing the desired visuals. If I cut out the <uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="8" /> tag from my manifest, they load properly without scaling.
Even when loading my images like so:
BitmapFactory.Options opts = new BitmapFactory.Options();
opts.inScaled = false; Bitmap bm = BitmapFactory.decodeResource(_resources, resId, opts);
They are still scaled when I declare the minimum SDK in the manifest, but not scaled if I remove that tag. How can I load them without scaling while still declaring the minimum SDK?
