Android :: Song ID Application Not Carry Function?
Sep 3, 2010
I've always been a fan of V Cast music ID before I recently switched to my Droid X. It was one of my favorite features. I was able to find it in the Verizon apps, as well as Shazam and SoundHound in the Droid Apps. However, both Shazam and Soundhound, no matter how many times I try, say they didn't receive any music or failed to identify a song, and V Cast SongID just stays on the "Listening" screen until I have to close the app. The songs I've tried are relevantly popular songs so I know they're not too unique for the databases. I've placed my phone in every possible way up to my speakers but no such luck. Is this a common problem? Could it be leaning towards a phone issue and not an app issue with three apps all failing to carry out their function. I'm not going to pay for a full version until I get it worked out.

I can't imagine that this doesn't already exist. I just don't know how to search for it. I have so many songs on my EVO - many of which I haven't even heard before. I'd love for the PICO text to speech voice to 'announce' the [file]name of each song as they start to play (or end, or both). Does such a thing exist?

I'm having a hard time figuring out the best way to pass simple values from onPause and onResume in the Android activity lifecycle. I understand how to use get and put extra bundles for activity to activity data, but does that work for passing data between the same activity? Should i used SharedPreferences?

I'm looking for a twitter application for Android that allows a mute function. I know Ubertwitter has it on Blackberry and Brizzly has it for the iPhone. I cannot find anything for android though. I have friends who I like and do not want to unfollow (nor do I want them to know I unfollowed them), but sometime these people go on rants and I would just like to be able to not have to see them when they decide to do it.

I see a ton of results when searching for how to open the camera, and get the returned image. What about simply opening the camera app without any return at all? I just want the camera to function as normal.

I have put some instructions in onLowMemory() callback and want to test the same. Is there a "direct" way to test onLowMemory function of the application subclass?
Or will I have to just overload the phone by starting many apps and doing memory intensive tasks?

I've implemented an onSaveInstanceState function in the main activity of my TabHost-based application. I need to save the state of various objects I am keeping in memory that I have all marked as serializable, as well as some basic int and string values. I have stepped through my application and watched it call the onSaveInstanceState function and presumably save everything without any manner of exception or problem. The issue is that my onCreate function is being called with a null Bundle value every time after I start the application again. I'm really at a loss and unsure why it would call the save but not pass anything into the create.

I am calling a method of another .apk file dynamically at runtime in my application. I can execute it successfully if method does not contain any variable which is defined outside of that method.
But if I am using the variables which are defined outside that method ( in the same activity or same .apk) then my application throws "java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException" at runtime.
For e.g. if method defines as ,

should an Android application have an exit button (or menu function) or not? Ok, if there's some service or other resources consuming something running in the background I think the user should have an option to make it stop. But what about an application that would just sit there, inactive? If I take a look at the standard application it seems that the Android philosophy is to keep the applications running and let the system decide when to stop and destroy an application idling in the background. I didn't recognize "exit" or "quit" options in the standard programs. On the other hand - why not let the user decide and give the option to quit some software if he knows it's currently not used. So, what's the advice here? Give even a "passive" application an exit button? Or not and just leave it to the system?

I am wondering if there any music apps (besides Pandora, Last.fm, imeem, Slacker, etc.) that will play the song that I want it to? For example, say I want to listen to Empire State of Mind by Jay-Z, what app can I go to and type in "Empire State of Mind" and listen to that song, instead of "similar songs"?All of these Pandora, Slacker, etc apps are exactly the same. Why can't I listen to the song I want instead of similar songs? I just don't get it.

I've searched the list and the documentation but have not found anything that tells you how to tell how many times a song has played. Is there something in the OS that provides that information or would it need to be done in the individual application?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S. I exercise alot and would like to know if there is a music player that can skip to the next song by pressing the head phone button twice. I dont want to touch the phone as i live in Australia and it is hot and i dont want to sweat all over the phone and break something. With the Iphone they have something where you hit the button twice on the head phones and it skips a song. Three clicks of the button the music player goes back one song. Is there a music player app or a head set i can use. If i press the button now it just pauses.

I have developed seek bar component (I am showing while playing the song). If i seeks the bar the song is getting changed the position based on the seek bar change event, and playing fine. But if I leave the seek bar it is not moving based on the song sequence. I know we have to do something for that. Can any one tell me how to get the event for moving the seek bar based on the song sequence.

Trying to get one mediaplayer button to cycle through a few mp3 files. Here is what I have so far:
First declared my array:
final int[] songs = {R.raw.ef101a, R.raw.ef101b, R.raw.ef101c, R.raw.ef101d, R.raw.ef101e};
Then called Media Player:
public void onClick(View arg0) { MediaPlayer mp = MediaPlayer.create(efaustusa.this, songs);
mp.start();
I cannot call the array through this media player call. How to do this?
