Sprint HTC Hero :: Updating Fresh 1.1 To 2.0 - No Boot Up
May 6, 2010I rooted the phone a while back and was using fresh 1.1, probably over a month ago. Recently I've been missing incoming text messages and now not receiving my exchange emails, so I figured I'd go ahead and update to 2.0d (sticking with fresh). I downloaded the zip and flashed it but it didn't boot up (waited over 30 minutes) it just stayed on with the animated HTC text. Multiple attempts with the same results. Even tried Damagecontrol 2.08 and it boots and and I even get the sprint animated logo but stays at the htc "quietly brillant" and goes no further.

Sep 3, 2010I've always been a fan of V Cast music ID before I recently switched to my Droid X. It was one of my favorite features. I was able to find it in the Verizon apps, as well as Shazam and SoundHound in the Droid Apps. However, both Shazam and Soundhound, no matter how many times I try, say they didn't receive any music or failed to identify a song, and V Cast SongID just stays on the "Listening" screen until I have to close the app. The songs I've tried are relevantly popular songs so I know they're not too unique for the databases. I've placed my phone in every possible way up to my speakers but no such luck. Is this a common problem? Could it be leaning towards a phone issue and not an app issue with three apps all failing to carry out their function. I'm not going to pay for a full version until I get it worked out.

Jul 24, 2010Okay, I don't use sense anymore because I am totally loving launcher pro. However, I have noticed with fresh 2.3.3 that there is a lot of junk on there that I don't want or need, like "coin," "battery," "Dice," etc. Since these are system apps I can't remove them through the uninstall app. Does anyone have any idea of which of these sense apps are safe to remove through adb and which are not?

May 18, 2010I was running Fresh 1.1+Gumbo and decided to take the plunge. I made my android backup, and backed up all my apps+system files with Titanium Backup and then flashed to Fresh 2.1.1. My question now is, how do I restore all my apps that I backed up. Do I just re-install the app from the market? And then use that to restore my old apps? Any help would be appreciated. Also... how do I enable apposed in 2.1.1 in the notes, flips stated it's turned off by default. I'd like to turn that on. I like me lots of apps, and would rather have them on my SD card.

May 30, 2010I'm having a hard time figuring out the best way to pass simple values from onPause and onResume in the Android activity lifecycle. I understand how to use get and put extra bundles for activity to activity data, but does that work for passing data between the same activity? Should i used SharedPreferences?

Jun 7, 2010I have Fresh 2.1.2 loaded on my Hero. When trying to launch MetaMorph it tells me to make sure i have enough space in /system. I have wiped and reinstalled the rom and have almost 90 mb free on the phone. I also can't get root explorer to work but am more interested in getting MetaMorph working. Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone know of anyway to fix this?

Feb 16, 2010I rooted my phone and flashed with Fresh 1.1 yesterday, and so far so good, I'm loving it. However, I noticed that my texting applications, Handcent SMS (as well as the stock messaging app), they no longer showing my contact's photos. It just shows a blank profile image of a head, with a question mark in the upper righthand corner (the stock messaging app is the same, just a dark silhouette instead of contact photo now). My contact's photos are all still in my phone, they work fine and are viewable in the "people" application (both FB photos and my own photos that I've assigned to contacts), or when I'm making a phone call, but in both messaging applications they don't have images anymore. I've verified in the Handcent SMS that "Display contact picture" is enabled (I've tried disabling it, then redisplaying it at both sizes... still no luck). I've also tried uninstalling Handcent SMS, then reinstalling the application from Market, still no luck. Any suggestions on how to get those back? I'm thinking that since it's not working in either messaging application, that it has something to do with the contact photos database (which I don't even know if something like that exists).

I'm trying to get rid of the standard music player (Rock On from SlideMe is still a tad glitchy, but it's mostly fantastic for it's ineffable ability to land artwork for every album and the last.fm tour finder) and also Sprint Navigation (pointless with Google Maps).

Nov 18, 2010So, I noticed this when the new Angry Birds Update game out (the one that added 45 new levels). Whenever I try to update this app, it downloads, but the installation always starts and just stops, saying the installation was incomplete. Of course, I went and took the next step, uninstalling, and trying to reinstall. Same problem. If I was looking at the Angry Birds screen on the market during this, it pops up Installation error Unknown reason-18 I ran into the same issue with Google Sky Map updating, and reinstalling. Same error message. Does anyone know what this error is?

Nov 24, 2010Im pretty new to the android forum so please bare with me. I've got the DHD and I love it. But the only issue I have is these pre-installed apps such as; facebook, twitter and peep.
First of all why do i need twitter AND peep? I want to get rid of the latter and i've heard that I need to root my phone to do that. Can someone point me to a newbs step by step to rooting the DHD if such a thing exists please?
Secondly, the pre-installed apps don't have the option of updating! So as far as I can see I have to actually download these apps again from the market and then update them when they come.
HTC Hero : How To Download Apps After Updating ROM?
Mar 12, 2010Now we all know how frustrating it is to have to backup and restore all your data on your phone for the rare time you have to update the rom, do a factory reset, etc. I recently had to do a factory reset. I've lost all my call logs - I can live with that. I don't have my sms' on my phone anymore - I can live with that. I have lost all my apps - which is okay BUT what really annoys me is that some apps seem to have disappeared from the market. I found the perfect sticky note widget after trying out dozens of others and now it's gone from my phone and from the market. Same goes for the Skype beta app. What can I do to get these Apps back (especially one entitled 'sticky memo widget lite')?

Sep 30, 2010Downloaded the android SDK on windows as well as fresh install of JDK. Java is installed fine, I can go to command prompt and enter "java" and it loads fine.

Oct 5, 2010I of course have froyo in my X. However since froyo updated I have been hoping that my apps would update, they are not. I have checkmarked the allow auto update box, even updated some of them manually once afterwords. I have taken the market off my task killer list. I only check it about twice a day, and everytime I have an update (not a manual update but a yellow font update)..nothing happens, I can let it sit on the market downloads screen or sleep my phone or do whatever and it just does not update my apps..does anyone have any ideas as too why this is? Perhaps something is off or being killed by my task killer? I have the two arrows on in the power management android widget (found this out by my gmail not snycing and receiving automatically). Any help is appreciated as I am at a loss as too why this isn't working..my friends droid updates her apps about twice a day.

Now I want to see my apps. I couldn't find them. I did some research and they told me to do this: apps, menu, uninstall/disable apps. It worked for me for some apps but not for all of them. I couldn't get for example S Planner, Internet etc. back. How can I get ALL of my (hidden) apps back?
