Android :: Google Apps - MS Office Integration For Business
Aug 24, 2010
Just wondered if anybody here has fully committed their business (or works for a company that has) to the Premium Edition of Google Apps. If so can you give me any feedback on any real world issues that it has. Specifically I'm wondering how well it integrates with MS Office products. For example I receive a lot of Excel documents with embedded photos and .pdf files and will need to access and amend them. Similarly most of my customers use Excel and will need to be able to open a spreadsheet created by me in the Google system? Also can I migrate existing documents into Apps? I know these are fairly basic requirements and I would be surprised if Google haven't covered them, but are there any other issues that I need to consider before committing to the Gcloud?

What is the best replacement on the Droid for the Windows Mobile Office suite? Is there a free one? Is there an easy program that gives access to Google Docs from the Droid?

i searched for threads [keyword: google apps synch], and results yielded subjects ranging from apps [as in software] to syncing with a gmail account [vs. Google Apps account], and i looked at 'suggested' threads based on my thread title and tags added.does android have a native single sign-on/set-up wizard [vs.3rd party] to sync with my Google Apps domain and its related services [xxx@arirangonline.com] or does wizard only allow for "xxxx@gmail.com" input?

I really want to integrate Google Sky Map into a program I'm working on, but as far as I can tell there is no information out there about this. I tried loading a KML file from the web, but it seems neither Maps, nor Sky Map handle it on Android. Is there some way that I can pass coordinate data to Sky Map? Does it have any registered Intent-filters?

My company registered for Market when the G1 came out, setup a Google Checkout account as soon as possible, and this weekend listed a pay-for app.
Everything looked OK, but after a couple of days of 0 sales and a few users saying they were going to buy the app I thought I'd do a bit of digging around, and found that despite Market letting us list a pay-for app with a price and showing no errors the Google checkout account was suspended and thus couldn't take payment.
The reason; Not agreeing to a new Terms of Service.
So if you're listing a pay-for app, and you've seen no sales, you may want to click on the "Go To: Transactions" link on the developer console to see whether or not it's Google Checkout that's the problem.

I know you can embed the Google maps view in an android activity, but is it possible to plug anything into the actual Google maps app. say if somebody clicked on a result in the map, and instead of the standard screen show a list of options, like when you share an image. Like "tag this". Something like that. I can't seem to find any info on that. Its all on integrating MapView into your app.

I have already asked this question regarding Payment Gateway Integration into Android, but didn't got any satisfactory answers.
Can someone let me know is it actually possible to integrate any of the above mentioned Payment Gateways into Android?
Mostly I think we can call their Web Services and then consume those services which will be in XML.
I will like to know if someone has done the same thing or is absolutely sure about this.
I want to develop a shopping cart type application where the user needs to purchase the products from the list of products. Once the user selects the product, the payment should be made directly from the same application only and not by opening Google Checkout or Paypal mobile website.
Please let me know what you people think about this. Hope to get the answer quickly.

I have had my Sony Ericsson Experia X10 for 4 months now and are happy with it although I seem to be continuously charging the battery? I haven't really looked at that many Android apps but I can't find a decent office type program similar to Microsoft Office or Open office to use excel, or similar office documents whilst I'm away from my laptop? Also are there any Krazy kiwis living out there using the great Android networks living in the UK, or even better in Bristol? I would love to hear from you soon

I'm considering switching to an Android device after using Windows Mobile for years and years... the new Droid from Verizon really looks impressive and I'm not real high on some of the new Windows Mobile devices coming out.One of my needs though will be to read, edit, and save 2007 Office documents. However, I'd also like to have my documents auotsync'd with Google Docs. Is something like this possible?

Hopefully next Thurday I will have 2 Incredibles. I have a google voice account and phone number. Currently mmy wife and I's cellphones both are connected to google voice, however when we call out they still see our number which is fine.
I know when I get the incredible I can set it up to you google voice to dial out and they will see the google voice number. The question is, does this work for 2 phones without screwing up other google services. i.e. I would like if both my wife and I could make outgoing calls through MY google voice number and the other side see the google number, but I want her phone setup with her gmail account etc and mine setup with my gmail account, etc.
Does anyone have this setup currently, or anyone at least know if this is a not possible thing?

I am looking for any mod/rom/app which integrate dialer with google maps/navigation.
Android phone is almost perfect device for me but there is one huge problem with navigation when driving and someone call you then dialer covers whole screen when pickup the call.
So far I have found that only htc navigation works well with dialer but unfortunately the only navi app is best for me is Google Navigation. So the question is...
Does exist any application or mod which activating that feature on android phone.

Is there a setting, as with voice calls, to have all SMS commands directed through Google Voice? I've canceled my Verizon texting plan and want to send all of my texts through Google Voice. Obviously I can do this by composing messages through the GV app, but I would like to click on a contact's page and have GV automatically open to send the text message. Much like Handcent opens when you select a contacts texting option, when you have Handcent installed. When I select the text message option from a contacts page (or press their contact picture and then select the text option), the Droid opens the standard text message application to send the text. Interestingly, if I go into the call log, select a recently called number and choose "send text message," it opens Google Voice to send the text message. How do I get the same functionality as above, so that selecting text message from a contact's page or shortcut uses Google Voice to send the message?

I'm looking to pick up a Captivate in the next couple days out of contract, hoping an Android phone will give me better Google Apps Premier integration compared to my BB 9700. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of info on Premier users and Android phones, but I'm trying to figure out if the 2 really play well with each other or not. Does anyone here have any experience with this? I've read on a few places that the only way people are getting good integration between phone and Premier is when they use their Premier email to initially set up their phone (which would then become the account holding Marketplace purchases). I don't want to do this since my Premier email is my work email, and I don't want to tie personal purchases (apps in the marketplace) to a work email address I won't own forever.
Has anyone successfully added their Premier email account After they've configured their phone with a default email account? (if that makes any sense). Ideally, I'd like to have my Captivate set up with my personal gmail account by default. Then I'd like to set up my work email (Premier). I'm hoping that if I do this, I'd have my calendar and contacts syncing to my phone from BOTH my personal and work email. Is this something that seems viable? I started looking into Android phones thinking Google Phone to Google Mail would have flawless integration, but haven't found any evidence of that so far.

My issue is with Google Sync and Office 2003. It works perfectly for 99.9% of what I expect it to do. I add an event on my work PC and -WHAMMO- it appears on my gCal and on my Eris in moments (If I do a force sync, otherwise it takes 1hr). The issue is, when I receive an invite to a meeting. Such that there is an "Accept / Decline / Tentative" option that we who use MS Office are probably familiar with. If I accept that meeting it will appear on my work computer, but will not sync in any way, shape or form w/ gCal, or my phone. I have to enter all these by hand on my work computer and THEN then they will show up. The reason I ask is: a) I'd like to not have to enter the meetings I'm INVITED to manually.....

I use Google hosted apps with my own domain for e-mail, calendar, chat, etc. and I use the e-mail address from that with my main Google account as well. So, both my Google account and hosted apps account use the same address. I had no problem setting up my account on my phone when I got it Friday, but I've been running into a few issues. First off, every time I try to buy an app in the Market, it asks me to set up a Google account to associate it with, even though I already have. Also, when I try to use Google Listen, it asks the same thing. Is there a way around this, or will I have to create a separate Google/GMail account?

Considering (heavily!) the Evo but the boss just asked me how well it handles things like pdf's and .doc's and such. We're coming over from blackberries and I'm having trouble finding anything definitive about whether the Evo (or android in general) can handle those things natively. I see that there are apps that do it but come with mixed reviews. Just wondering what your experiences and/or expectations are.

New to android..been using WM 6.1 sync with outlook obviously seemless. Need the same type of functionality but it doesn't have to be with outlook. Looking for options to use for business. Being a small company I can go anyway I want, don't have any restrictions other than need to sync all with phone, laptop and desktop. Beginning to travel more so contact, calendar and task must sync (notes and a Today front end would be nice). I have tried Dejaoffice but I end up with 2 sets of contacts and calendars (Samsung and Dejaoffice) not to mention that the UI is lame (had just as good 15 years ago with Instant Recall). Don't mind rooting the phone if needed. So what options exist in the open source world? Love my captivate phone but need to be able to do business to keep it. Anxious to hear how the rest of the Android world does it.

I've never understood the appeal of Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, etc. Google Buzz caught my interest only because it appears in things I already use on my Droid - Google Maps and Google Reader (via the browser). In Google Reader I can clearly see who I'm logged in as - the name appears at the bottom of the screen; it's my Google Account. I assume this works via a cookie in the browser. The only account I have setup on my phone itself is my Google Apps account, and the email address for this account is different than that of my Google Account. While out sledding with my kids today, I felt the urge to buzz, and attach a picture. I couldn't see how to do that through the browser interface, so I opened Google Maps. It appears that I can post to Buzz in Google Maps, and even attach a picture. The only problem is that I can't see any buzz other than my own via Google Maps, but I can see more buzz via the browser, but none of what I posted.I think somehow Google Maps is using my Google Apps account for Buzz, but it's not actually working. Anyone have a clue as to what's going on here?

My company is going to be switching to Gmail for work. I will thus have a work and personal Gmail account. On Android, will I be able to run two instances of the Gmail app, one for work and one for personal?
I don't want to run one through the standard mail program because I don't want to lose the gmail features like Conversations.
