Motorola Droid :: Android Number Input With Plus / Minus Sign
May 7, 2010I am developing in android and I would like an input field for numbers, where the user can select the correct number using the plus sign at the top and the minus sign at the bottom of the input field. I know this works for date picker. Is there some property or something similar to make this available for any integer number input field?

Mar 20, 2010On my Samsung Galaxy Portal/Lite/Spica's GMail app my inbox always shows a minus figure. E.g. the top of the screen will say Inbox (-2). What does this means and how can I get it back to 0 when I have no unread mail and into a positive number when I do have unread mail. All the mail in the app is visible via the "proper" Gmail on a PC and vice versa.

On my device (Motorola Milestone) and in the emulator this looks like the standard gray spinner widget.
On of my colleagues uses a Motorola Backflip and on his device the Spinner is black. Now its very hard to read the font in the spinner.
What do I have to do to use my own view for the spinner? I don't mind to have the gray spinner on all devices, but it should always look the same on all devices.

Jan 25, 2010I have a spinner 'aperture' set up with a list of numbers, and a spinner 'mode' with two options. When a button is pushed I need a calculation to run using various inputs, including the current selection from 'aperture' and a value derived from 'mode'. How do I call the value of a spinner so I can use it in a calculation?
Also, how do I use the spinner 'mode's selection to set this other value before implimenting it in the calculation? To be more specific, if the spinner is set to Small then the value I use in the calculation is 0.015, whereas if Large is selected I need to use 0.028
My other inputs are EditText views, so right now I am set up like this:

That is not the actual equation, it is just a test to make sure everything connects properly. How would I call the value of spinner 'aperture' and the Small/Large spinner 'mode'

Jan 25, 2010I have a spinner widget in my activity which lets users pick a list name.
Normally, the function of the spinner is to switch between lists but for a couple of instances, I swap out the selection change listener to perform a different function with the same list of options. Once the selection has been made, the old listener is restored and life goes on.
This is a bad and buggy arrangement. Instead, I would like to have a function that just takes a selection listener and some other parameters and shows a popup list that's populated by the same cursor (or and identical cursor) as the spinner, without using the spinner itself.
Is there any way I can do this?

what is intriguing me is that the first spinner onitemselection works perfectly ( I can see the values in LogCat) then when I change selection of the 2nd spinner I am gettging an error on this line: String selected= (String) s2.getSelectedItem(); So the compiler gets insisde then onItemSelected function of the 2nd spinner but throws an Handler exceltion on s2.getSelectedItem()
why? it works perfectly for the 1st spinner.
Android :: How To Reuse Activity On Top Of Stack

In "Main" I call one of three other activities A, B, or C (based on a preference) and then immediately exit/finish"Main" so that only A, B, or C are active.I also have a permanent notification in the notification bar that users can pull down (at any time) to conveniently restart my App (calls intent with "Main" component).The problem is that if my app is already running and users pull down the notification and restart, I get A or B or C running on top of the previous activity (also A, or B, or C). How can I avoid this (i.e. reuse the activity on top of the stack)?I've tried Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_* and nothing seems to work. I've tried launchModel in the Manifest and it also didn't seem to work.

May 28, 2010I'm trying to implement a menu in the footer of an app, similar to i.e. the Engadget app. As I understand, getting a standard TabLayout to work in this way is not trivial (if at all possible?).
As I see quite a few apps using this interface paradigm, I would assume there is a clever way of doing it. Currently, I'm defining the layout by adding an include line at the end of every layout. This works fine as far as rendering is concerned, but I have to add the onClickListeners to each activity. can we define clickListener through XML?
To sum up my question: What is the best way to implement a shared footer navigation accross several Activities?

Oct 7, 2010How can I reuse code AND resources in several applications? I have a fairly large code base (including resources) that I want to reuse i several applications. How can I do that?
I did try to use the Android Library concept (http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/eclipse-adt.html#libraryProject) but never got it to work in Android 1.x
I'm amazed by the lack of information on the subject. It seems like Google has aimed Android development at pet projects and not real development. Variant handling should have been solved ages ago.

Aug 6, 2010I have read the Android UI trick 2 on Android developers, which tells people how to include a layout in another layout file multiple times, and give these included layouts different id. However, the sample here is overwriting the layout id, not the id of the views IN this layout. For example, if the workspace_screen.xml looks like this: And I include it three times in another layout file. Do I end up with three TextViews with id firstText, and another three with secondText? Isn't there an id collision? And how do I find the secondText TextView in the third included layout with findViewById? What should I input in the findViewById method?

Jul 14, 2010At the moment I am trying to evaluate if it is possible to reuse the android contact search in a 3rd party application.
I got the problem that I have to implement a contact list/picker including a filtering possibility for the contacts list. That means that the standard android picker opened by an intent does not help me. So I decided to implement the list/picker on my own which is not that difficult. But I need to be able to offer the android search dialog in my own implementation as well.
So is it possible to reuse the standard contact search mechanism in an own application? (the contact search available e.g. in the default contact list) Or do I have to implement this one on my own?

Nov 15, 2010I have an Android code base which uses APIs with settings to get different data for several apps. All apps use the same code base but with one or two design tweaks. So how do I re-use the main code base without having to copy the whole Android project each time?
iPhone uses multiple targets in the same project which works well. If android cant do this do I need to compile binaries of the code base in one project and then import into each new app project? If so how? I'm using Eclipse and am an intermediate Java developer.

Sep 23, 2010Does android reuse views during a orientation change? I have a progress bar in my activity. I set the progress to 50%, and then do an orientation change. But for some reason, the progress bar maintain 50% after the orientation. I have call setprogress(0) in the onCreate() of my activity. And I have put 'printf' in anywhere I call setProgress(), i don't still don't understand why the progress bar maintains 50% everytime I do an orientation change?

May 24, 2010I've experienced two problems with Google Voice that are causing me to get charged minutes I wouldn't usually get charged. If I can't solve them, I'll have to go back to using my Verizon number. First, let me say that I'm using a new Google Voice number that isn't Verizon cell phone number or any other preexisting number. Second, my girlfriend is on my family plan, but she doesn't have GV yet. We're using the 700-minute plan, so we don't have a friends circle.
Problem 1: When I call my girlfriend's Verizon wireless phone using the GV on my Verizon phone, I get charged, and when she calls my GV number on my Verizon Wireless phone from her Verizon wireless phone, she gets charged. We don't cash in on our free in-network calling. I know, this should have been obvious, but it just never occurred to me until after I looked at the bill. I'd be able to work with that, though, and just select "Call without using Google Voice" or whatever when calling her if it weren't for the second problem. When people call my Google Voice number, I get charged when I don't answer. Usually, it's just a one-minute charge, but sometimes it's two or three minutes (don't know why). With anything less than an unlimited plan, minutes count. Not good.

Feb 15, 2012Basically, i use my personal cell phone for work and personal use, i have multiple exchange accts that keep things sorted and seperated.
recently though i have been getting more and more business calls to my cell phone, during and outside of normal business hours.
what im looking for is an app that will take a selective group of contacts/phone numbers/CID strings and if it is a "business" call then forward it to a specific phone number (external number, the actual business line).
I have seen apps on the market and around that will forward calls to voicemail if they match certain filters, but i cant really seem to find an app that will forward to an external number. Any way I could accomplish this?

Jun 2, 2010I'm selling my house, and my old phone number (which is still active), is on the advertisment signs and MLS. So, I'm going to keep paying my bill month to month for that account until I sell the house.
However, I'd rather not carry around 2 different phones. I did not port my number to my new service as my old number was not "local" to where I live now.
So, I have service with T-mobile and now Verizon with two different numbers. Can I set-up something where anyone who calls my T-mobile number, will ring through to my my Verizon phone/number?
