Android :: Reuse Default Droid Contact Search In 3rd Party Application - Possible?

Jul 14, 2010

At the moment I am trying to evaluate if it is possible to reuse the android contact search in a 3rd party application.

I got the problem that I have to implement a contact list/picker including a filtering possibility for the contacts list. That means that the standard android picker opened by an intent does not help me. So I decided to implement the list/picker on my own which is not that difficult. But I need to be able to offer the android search dialog in my own implementation as well.

So is it possible to reuse the standard contact search mechanism in an own application? (the contact search available e.g. in the default contact list) Or do I have to implement this one on my own?

Android : Global Search Always Shows More Results - XXX (n) For 3rd Party Application

Sep 15, 2009

Just downloaded donut sdk and played with global search, very cool, except a small issue. I integrate my application with global search functionality, but global search always shows "More results... xxx (n) " even if there is only 1 result from my application. I've disabled all other applications so that there is enough room for displaying the results of my application for sure. Any hint when it shows result directly and when it shows "More results..."?

HTC EVO 4G :: Search Contacts By Company (No 3rd Party App Needed)

Aug 3, 2010

The company directory is still not working in Android 2.2 at least on my EVO 4G. But the good news is that you dont need it to work. There is a better way. I kept thinking that Google was supposed to be the king of searching, so I could not accept the fact that you cannot atleast search by company name. After doing some digging I found out a way to find contacts by company name.Press the "+" sign next to "Phone" on your home screen then select "Widgets" next select "Google Search" then select "People" and place the search bar on your home screen. Now you can search your contacts by name, company, number, etc. You can select the contact and see the full contact info for that individual and dial the number from there. You can also have the search pull up related email, texts, etc. when you search for the individuals name.

General :: Kitkat 4.4.2 - Duplicate SMS Using 3rd Party (non-default) Apps

May 29, 2014

I've noticed something since I updated my phone to kitkat 4.4.2 (it's a Z1 compact).

Whenever I use another app than my default app to send SMS, eg. I'm using SMSPopup, Glowfly or event another "real" SMS app along with my default one (let's say hangouts or Handcent), I have duplicate sent SMS, that means I have twice my sent messages in my list. I didn't have this issue on JB.

I tried to tweak access/read/write permissions via AppOps but the result is still the same. I now have to use the same app for popups/Notifications and SMS. Other SMS apps are useless because they duplicate the text messages.

Android :: Best Way To Reuse A Footer Menu In Droid?

May 28, 2010

I'm trying to implement a menu in the footer of an app, similar to i.e. the Engadget app. As I understand, getting a standard TabLayout to work in this way is not trivial (if at all possible?).

As I see quite a few apps using this interface paradigm, I would assume there is a clever way of doing it. Currently, I'm defining the layout by adding an include line at the end of every layout. This works fine as far as rendering is concerned, but I have to add the onClickListeners to each activity. can we define clickListener through XML?

To sum up my question: What is the best way to implement a shared footer navigation accross several Activities?

Motorola Droid X :: Contact Search Results Not Working Correctly?

Oct 6, 2010

When I click on the search button (magnifying glass), type in the name of a person I am looking for in my contacts, I come up with a list of people who match what I have typed. On my droid, I could then click on any of the results to bring up that persons contact information. On this phone, it flashes the contact information for about a 10th of a second then goes back to my search results. I can get the contact information by clicking on the icon for that person, then selecting the contacts icon that comes up below. Is this something that is going on with my phone only or are others having this issue also.

When I use Google Voice Search to call a contact (e.g. "Call Wendy Home" [my wife]), the contact is found and the number is dialed successfully, but the picture doesn't show on the screen (just the android image). However, if I look her up in contacts and make the call, or receive a call from her number, the contact image is displayed. iPhone uses multiple targets in the same project which works well. If android cant do this do I need to compile binaries of the code base in one project and then import into each new app project? If so how? I'm using Eclipse and am an intermediate Java developer.

Android :: Contact Search With Multiple Parameters

I am trying to do a Contacts search on Android using Contacts Contract. I would like to search on multiple parameters, e.g. - Where name = myname AND email = myemail AND nickname = mynickname, etc. I have it working w/ just name, but need the syntax to add email and nickname as search params. I know they are stored separately from display name & have a different format. The code below is what is working for the search by just name. How can I add to the selection variable to also search by email and nickname? CODE: String selection = ContactsContract.Contacts.IN_VISIBLE_GROUP + " = '" + ("1") + "'"; selection += "AND " + ContactsContract.Contacts.DISPLAY_NAME + "= '" + cp.name + "'"; Uri uri = ContactsContract. Contacts.CONTENT_URI; String sortOrder = contactsContract. Contacts. DISPLAY_NAME + " COLLATE LOCALIZED ASC"; Cursor myCursor = mApp.managedQuery(uri, null, selection, null, sortOrder);
