Android :: Retrieve actual Locale / Language in Phone?

App That Gets GPS Coordinates And Phone Language (Locale)

May 3, 2012

I need an app which get GPS coordinates of the device(if GPS is disabled - get last known location coordinates) and also get the language of the device(Locale).

When I start the app, it will appear a button with link to website. Clicking that button will open the default browser and go to website(set by me). That website will use the GPS coordinates(Long/Lat) and language of the device to show information on that language and somethings near this coordinates.

Android :: How To Retrieve Locale Independent App?

Jan 21, 2010

I'm using PackageManager.getApplicationLabel(ApplicationInfo) to retrieve application labels. It looks like the label that is returned depends on the Locale set for the phone. For instance with the music app I get "Music" in English, vs. "Musica" if I have my locale set to Spanish. Is there a way to get the default application label (perhaps as defined in strings.xml)? I want to be able to retrieve an application label for each app that is independent of locale.

Android :: Selecting Language From Within App Rather Than By Locale Of System Settings

Feb 13, 2010

I would like to give the users of my app the possibility of selecting a language from within the application. All languages are supplied the standard way via the values resource directory. However, I don't want Android to select which resource directory to use but let the user decide instead. Any ideas how to accomplish that? The rationale for this: - some languages are not supported by the Android framework and can not be selected as a locale via the system settings - if you buy a phone in Spain, it will typically not have a system setting for Russian language, if you purchase in Russia, you will have that setting. So a Russian person in Spain would prefer using the Russian language included with the app, but can't access it

Or should I create intent for a shortcut to the language settings.Please post some code Edit : With Locale class developer.android. com/intl/fr/reference/java/util/Locale.htmlThe constructor is at least Locale(String language)The input is language.How can you retrieve the current language used on device ?

Android :: Localization Support Without Changing Locale / Language Of Device?

Jul 28, 2010

I created a set of text resources in different languages:

res/values-de/strings.xml
res/values-fr/strings.xml
res/values-ja/strings.xml

when a user runs our application, the Android system selects which resources to load, based on the device's locale.

So basically I want to add language option in my application and save user language preference, then load text resources based on user preference.

Is there any way to do this?

Android :: App To Determine Actual Phone Specs?

Dec 9, 2009

I tried out this app: Fpt System Manager v1.1 Application for Android | Tools

And in the RAM area it currently shows me as having 83MB of RAM available out of 192.5MB of RAM. Obviously because of running apps.

What I'd like to know is how much _total_ RAM is _actually_ in my phone. The model I have is supposed to have 288MB of RAM (Rogers HTC Magic).

Is there an app, or is there some other way, to determine the actual specs of your phone, ie. actual total RAM installed?

HTC Droid Eris : Need To Have Phone Actual Talk Time?

Feb 19, 2010

Ok I've read a gazillion threads on battery life and 2.1 etc etc and you have me all waiting anxiously for an update and bigger batteries but what about actual talk time on the phone? didn't see any threads about that. Its not uncommon for my phone to be a toy all week then on the weekend catch up with some buds or family or whatever and yak on the thing for 2 hours straight. Will it hold? I know my old razer with an ext batt would go 4 hours talk time easy, glimmer would do 2.5 hrs easy with stock battery sometimes more. Pearl did well, haven't really talked the Storm out cause its my work phone and I tend to shun that thing on the weekends ....so let me know how long you've talked on it! Battery life does seem to stink but I can't put the damn thing down so I'm sure that has something to do with it and all my other smartphones sucked battery wise too the first week or so, so I'm not passing judgment yet, just want to know how long i can talk on the thing before it dies....I will do my own testing soon but would like some ideas.

Android :: JVM Based Language Without Language Runtime

Sep 8, 2010

Does anyone know of some alternative JVM language, however obscure it might be, which can compile to plain old java bytecode, without the need of a language runtime.I need this in order to try to develop android applications without startup or size penalty. Scala, Clojure and Groovy all require its own runtime library distributed with the application, so they are out of the scope of this question.The only one language which claims to satisfy this goal is Charles Nutter's Mirah, but I couldn't make it to work on windows.To clarify a bit, I know any language has to have runtime library. Obviously, what I am looking for is a language that has no additional runtime required besides JRE, or at least very limited one.

Android :: Retrieve GPS Location Of The Phone

Apr 18, 2010

I am trying to retrieve the GPS location of the phone. I believe I cannot create an object of the class which stores the location in a variable. So that once the class gets instantiated I use a get method and retrieve the content in the variable. So I am trying to do this....

locationListener = new MyLocationListener();
lm.requestLocationUpdates( LocationManager.GPS_PROVIDER,0,0,locationListener); if(!information.equals(null)){ Bundle bundle = new Bundle(); bundle.putString("hello", information); Intent intent = new Intent(LocationActivity.this, MainActivity.class); intent.putExtras(bundle); startActivity(intent); }

and in the locationlistener class

public void onLocationChanged(Location loc) { if (loc != null) { double lat=loc.getLatitude(); double lon=loc.getLongitude(); information = " "+lat +lon; Toast.makeText(getBaseContext(), "Location Changed:"+information, Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show(); } else information="bad luck"; }

The mainactivity then displays that...but its not happening...could some one please help me how to get the values of this.
