Android : Password - Protecting And Encrypting Stored SMS
Mar 6, 2010
Does anybody know if there's a way to encrypt and password-protect sent and received SMS messages?
I'm not bothered about encrypting messages being sent - just those that are stored on my phone.

I incorrectly saved some username/password information while using the android browser version # 2.2 that's built-in to the brilliant corners version 1.3.1 rom. I already have the root explorer application installed on my viewsonic gtablet, I know there must be a way to go in and edit that information, I just don't know how to do it. I know you delete ALL of the saved information, but I really don't want to do that.

After the android market tool make the first connection between the smartphone and the market web site for start download app it ask to Google username and password account. Just for paranoia I would to know if it store these data in a safe mode since another troian app could attempt to "stole" these data and trasmit somewhere in background. What do you think about, do you trust the market tool?

Does anyone know how to decrypt a stored google password on an HTC Hero?
My bro forgot his google password. The secondary email is completely defunct. The security question is completely incomprehensible. He even filled out the form to convince google that he is who he says he is... no dice.
The ONLY place the password is stored is his HTC Hero, as a saved gmail password.
My question is... is there a way to export, decrypt, or recover his gmail password on his Hero?

I have a Sprint Samsung galaxy S2 (Epic 4G). I need to get the user name and password from my sirius app. I understand these are stored in .db files but i can't find com.sirius anywhere on my phone. I know i could call XM and get the password but i have special circumstances and this is not an option as I used the free trial and it never stopped working. Been like 8 months now even stayed working after sirius app update. Is there anyway I can recover the user name and password that the phone is using to log in as I just got a galaxy S3 an dont wan to loose my free XM.

I was thinking about this earlier and figured I'd ask.If I made an application that has lots of resources, what would stop someone from extracting and adding/modifying the resources I ship with it?Does an application that doesn't want its data manipulated have any sort of option to protect itself?

Is there a way to listen for application launches?I'm trying to develop an application where the user can specify a list of applications that he/she wants to "protect." If they are in this list, then whenever the application is launched, my app will ask them to enter a password. However, I've been going through the Android SDK for days and can't figure out how to listen for application launches.

The last week or so I have been thinking about how to send and receive text messages that employers/parents can't read (obviously text messages are stored for a long time on your provider's server).
Is there a clean app for easily encrypting text messages? I bet my boss had a pretty good time with some text messages I sent to my lady when she was out of town.

I plan to bundle an xml data file that has all the metadata required by the application. When my app loads for the first time, the xml data file is read and local database is created and populated. This xml file is a crucial part of my app and it holds at least 100k entries. I don't want this data to be compromised.
Is there a way to encrypt this data file so that the file is unreadable in case someone opens the .apk file and extracts the data file.

Encrypted their Android smartphone? I kind of want to do it just for kicks and giggles but I was reading online that encrypting can reduce phone performance. , does it reduce performance by a noticeable amount? Also, I never read anything about this but it was just a thought, would the constant decrypting also decrease battery life?

I have had this same problem happen twice to me on 2 different phones on 2 different Verizon accounts!
The password screen locks and when it asks for the user name and password it states invalid user name / password!
Is this a known problem since when I called and talked to both Verizon and HTC the only thing they could tell me was to do a hard reset and they weren't aware of this problem?

I'm new to android but just used the guides at this forum to root my LG Optimus V. I was wondering if now that I have root there is a way to install a boot password similar to the one I have on my computer. Before it loads the operating system, the BIOS asks for a password. Is there any similar functionality for android?
Also, is this possible on other devices even if it is not on mine? It's one of my favorite laymen security measures.

My problem is using SharedPreferences. I just created a <PreferenceScreen> which holds inside a <ListPreference> with an array of 5 different values. Very simple! The array of values are different numbers: 1, 2, 5, 10 and 30.Every time I change the setting, the application remembers that and I can see the setting I chose when I access the preferences once again (as an user). Now, in the code, when I retrieve the setting using the key (e.g. getString("delay", default_delay);), I always get the default value, it seems that the SharedPreferences does not find my setting. Can anybody help? I have read about SharedPreferences.getEditor().commit(), but that should be used only when changing settings from the code, not from the UI preferences.

My guess is that there is an advantage to having many things stored on my SD card on my Droid (like freeing up main memory to make sure the speed and efficiency are there).
However, thus far, I have received NO PROMPTS when installing anything (apps, pictures, etc) regarding where I would like things to go. Also, I just pulled up "SD Card and Phone Storage" on my device and it says "SD Card- Total Space 1.86GB, Available Space - 1.86GB" (clearly nothing there!)
Why am I never getting prompted with an option to store things (like photos I transfer from my Desktop) to the SC card?
Can someone walk me through this and also suggest what things SHOULD be going on my SD card to make my device work smoothly?

I have tried searching the forums for an answer with no success. I am hoping there is a way of saving "X" amount of G mail emails to the phone rather than them being accessed via a data connection. I recently went on holiday and wanted to access emails that contained flight references etc that I had already received before traveling. However, I didn't want to connect to a Roaming carrier for a connection. Basically, is there a G mail client on the G1 that can store messages?

I have rather annoying SD Card saving question: How do i know if a number is stored on my SD Card? I only ask because i recently got my Droid replaced No worries, nothing really wrong happened to it, just the power on/off button got like stuck, it worked fine just had to push it down kinda weird, anyhow took it in to get looked at and my friend was ill just replace it and get a new one ! he works verizon, so got a new droid ! Anyways, i figured all my numbers were stored on the SD Card, but lo and behold i lost about 2-5 numbers, but the weird thing was, it saved like the name and profile, even the email, but not the number?? So i was wondering if i could see or find out which numbers were stored on the SD Card and which on the phone?

I have a Droid Continuum and I am wondering where the apps are stored that I download from the marketplace.I checked the downloads folder in my SD card but nothing is there. It is obviously somewhere in the internal files of the phone. But where exactly are the downloaded apps stored? I checked the /data folder and i found nothing there.so it must be somewhere else..If anyone has the answer, it'd be great...I found the system apps, just not the downloaded ones.

I created a SQLite database on Android device. The program can read/write to database so the database file has obviously been created. The SQLiteDatabase.mPath is set to
db.mPath = "/data/data/dev.client.android/databases/clientDB.db"
but when I browse the directories on the device I can't locate the file clientDB.db. I looked inside data directory but it appears to be empty.Does anyone know what could be wrong here?
