Sep 5, 2010I'm looking for an app that will allow me to view photos stored on my computer. I can access the computers on my home network from my Incredible using Astro or ES File Explorer "LAN" and open various file formats such as .pdf, .doc, .xls fine on my Droid; however, I am unable to open and view any type of image files (.jpg, .bmp, .gif, etc.) unless they are stored on my SD card or in the Droid memory itself.
When I try to open a image file stored outside the Droid, nothing appears on the Droid screen. I have installed several "image viewer" apps, such as Astro and 3D Gallery, none of which seem to be able to open remotely stored files. When I "click" on an image file, I see "Loading Image", but all that appears is a black screen with left and right arrow scroll buttons -- no pictures. Any advice, other than to copy and paste image files to my SD card, which then allows me to open and view them? I did get the 2.2 update.

May 3, 2010Is it normal for push email to take 3-4 minutes on an android device? I just sent some test emails from my laptop. They arrived at 6:33 pm and the timestamps show the were sent at 6:29. Maybe I'm just spoiled from having a blackberry because I'm used to push email being immediate, not 3-4 minutes later. Is anyone else experiencing this?

It's no longer available, but I've been using the old BlackBerry Desktop Manager software that includes a Redirector program that runs on the work computer to send/receive work e-mails on my phone. This avoids the whole IT lockdown on my own personal phone while giving me the only thing I need, which is e-mail access. Is there something similar in the Android community?
If not, would IT have control over my device if I were to add the e-mail account to my device? Something I'd like to avoid as it's my personal phone...

Nov 19, 2009I have two pop3 email accounts set up on the Driod and I'm wondering if there is a way to set it so the last 30 days or so of emails are saved on the droid, even after dowloading them at home and deleting them from the server?Right now, the droid only shows email that is still sitting on the server. On the BB i had, it used to download a copy of all pop3 email to the device and the copy would stay there unless i manually deleted in on the BB.

Nov 21, 2010My problem is using SharedPreferences. I just created a <PreferenceScreen> which holds inside a <ListPreference> with an array of 5 different values. Very simple! The array of values are different numbers: 1, 2, 5, 10 and 30.Every time I change the setting, the application remembers that and I can see the setting I chose when I access the preferences once again (as an user). Now, in the code, when I retrieve the setting using the key (e.g. getString("delay", default_delay);), I always get the default value, it seems that the SharedPreferences does not find my setting. Can anybody help? I have read about SharedPreferences.getEditor().commit(), but that should be used only when changing settings from the code, not from the UI preferences.

Aug 5, 2010My guess is that there is an advantage to having many things stored on my SD card on my Droid (like freeing up main memory to make sure the speed and efficiency are there).
However, thus far, I have received NO PROMPTS when installing anything (apps, pictures, etc) regarding where I would like things to go. Also, I just pulled up "SD Card and Phone Storage" on my device and it says "SD Card- Total Space 1.86GB, Available Space - 1.86GB" (clearly nothing there!)
Why am I never getting prompted with an option to store things (like photos I transfer from my Desktop) to the SC card?
Can someone walk me through this and also suggest what things SHOULD be going on my SD card to make my device work smoothly?

Some scenarios: Device is connected over WiFi - presumably the device has a standard IP address as with any host and can communicate with any other android host over TCP/IP (assuming it knows the participating device's IP? device is connected over bluetooth - how are devices identified in this case? device is connected over mobile operator's network - this is the one I'm interested in and confused by - is there anyway for two or more devices to discover each other and communicate via the mobile operator's network? How does a device communicate with a backend server in this scenario? In other words, how do apps and devices communicate when not connected to a WiFi network?

I only ask because i recently got my Droid replaced No worries, nothing really wrong happened to it, just the power on/off button got like stuck, it worked fine just had to push it down kinda weird, anyhow took it in to get looked at and my friend was ill just replace it and get a new one ! he works verizon, so got a new droid ! Anyways, i figured all my numbers were stored on the SD Card, but lo and behold i lost about 2-5 numbers, but the weird thing was, it saved like the name and profile, even the email, but not the number??
