Getting a Hero next month and from an initial search on the web their doesn't seem to be an easy way to port over calendar and contacts from my centro to the Hero. Looks like it can be done (I don't use outlook) but just wondered if there were any easy tools, e.g., Sprite, that work for the old Palm OS.

I want to switch app2sd methods. I want to switch from the DT-A2SD method to Link 2SD, but any info will probably apply to all ext-based methods (i.e., not the built-in Froyo method). I can't possibly be the only person who's ever contemplated it!
Am I going to have to disable DT-A2SD first (which will involve a LOT of backups/uninstalling / reinstalling)? Will the Link 2SD app detect the ext partition and its apks and just adapt accordingly. I'm running MIUI 1.11.4 on an Acer Liquid E.

Migrating to a new Gmail account without losing everything Android related? Like a few people I know, I made a Gmail account a few years ago before android was this big and (like the naive child I was) didn't make a very professional email address. Migrating to a new Gmail account I created. Copying contacts and mail is easy enough, but what about everything related to Android?

I have application that I have been developing for over a year and half now. I used the app to teach myself Android programming. When I started the development Gingerbread was the main sdk and that is what I targeted. Well now ICS and Jellybean are out and I was looking at migrating my app from Gingerbread to the newer sdks.
How to most efficiently go about this process. I would like to keep everything in the same files if possible and not have to start from scratch.

Anyone know of any Android apps/utilities which will help me migrate all my data from a IPhone 3G with iOS 4.0.2 to a Samsung Vibrant? I just made the switch and I want to migrate my data (contacts, notes, calender and music) from my IPhone to my new Samsung Vibrant. Please, someone tell me this is not as difficult or cumbersome as I think by having to reenter all my data and there is a Android app/utility that can make this easy for me.

I plan to upgrade to a 4G LTE device this year. Typically, my usage on my 3G device (a Droid 2 Global) runs less than 1 GB a month. Have any people experienced increases in their monthly data usage after switching to a 4G-enabled device? And if so, do you think it would be due to the fact that you're consuming more data at a faster rate, watching more videos, streaming more content through your cellular data network because of the increased capability?
I'm trying to decide between buying old technology off of a third party (e.g. Droid 4/Razr Maxx at no contract) or upgrading to the latest and best (GS3/Razr Maxx HD) for the same cost, but losing the unlimited.

I use "Palm VNC" to control my computers via my Palm TX; this is most useful for one particular pc as I can use the Palm's touch screen to activate commands rather than the mouse on the pc. A quick point with a finger and the command fires rather than picking up the mouse, moving to the required spot on the screen then clicking. Even more useful when I am at the other end of the room and need to fire the command. I see that there are many VNC apps for Android/Desire. What is the forum's experience of the various VNC apps?

Computers and laptops won't exist, only smartphones. We will have desktop and laptop DOCKING stations that we can plug our phones into. Those stations will have no computing or storage or networking capabilities. They will only contain a keyboard, a mouse or touch pad, and a viewing monitor. They will simply receive input from the user and send it to the phone, and display or sound the output.Such docking stations will exist at home, school, work, airports and other public places.

I'm developing on multiple computers. If I deploy to my phone directly from Eclipse on one computer, I can't deploy from the other without uninstalling first. I'm assuming this is because there is a debug certificate being used to sign the app, and they're not the same across the two machines. Is it possible to copy one over to the other so that Eclipse is using the same one on both machines?

I'm teaching an Android course at Hawaii Pacific University, and I want to install the Android SDK and ADT on university computers, but the University policy requires explicit permission from Google.
Does anyone know who I could contact at Google to get an official statement that it was okay to install the software on University computers?

I was unable to find much information regarding compatibility of the Samsung Galaxy with MAC computers. On behalf of the small number of MAC users in this forum, I made a call to Samsung tech support re: how to do the Frodo update with a MAC computer. I was told that the Galaxy phone is PC based and, at present, Samsung does not have a plan to port Kies to OS X. In order to install the Frodo update when it is available, if we don't have an application such as Parallels or Virtual PC, we will have to borrow a PC to do the job.

I have Outlook set up on my work computer that syncs to Goggle then to my Inc, but I'd also like to have Outlook on my home computer sync to Google then to my Inc. This way I can add contacts or appoints to either computer I happen to be working on and have them link to my Inc.
Is this possible?

When I connect my phone to my computers (Win 7 or 2 XP machines) it always connects as A/C and not as USB. I downloaded the Samsung USB drivers and this worked on the Win 7 machine for a while but then started connected as A/C again. Un-installed and installed the drivers again but they do now work now. The Samsung drivers did not work on either of the XP machines. So, as of now I think it is the phone? I do have the Power Manager app installed and the phone still connects as A/C with it running or not.

Is there any way to disable or override the car dock app? I want the application that I am writing to be able to launch when the device is placed into the car dock. I have created a BroadcastReceiver for my app but the standard car dock app displays, not my app. I know that my broadcast receiver is working because when I click the back button on the device from the car dock app it shows my app. How do I get it to not show the car dock app? There is no listing for the car dock app in the list of installed apps on the phone. The only solution I have found on the web is to root your phone and change the .apk file name. I can't expect my users to do that.

To develop an APK, I want to modify or expand ContactsProvider functionality. GoogleContactsProvider is my role model. But I can't put my code to Android repository, like GoogleContactsProvider does. Mine is a 3rd party APK to develop.
http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/threa... was the idea.
Just curious how to make a customized provider for Android ContactsProvider.

I just ordered a Lenovo S2110 Android tablet with keyboard dock. The idea was to use this 20 hour machine on road trips to do work related activities. For my job, I need to connect via VPN to get access to my work's intranet. I can do that fine in Windows on my pc or my work laptop. I was hoping to do this via Android and the Cisco AnyConnect program. Unfortunately my company doesnt have the license for Cisco AnyConnect mobile so I cannot connect directly via android.
Is it at all possible to connect and share the connection via my home pc that is connected via VPN via the internet somehow? Meaning, can I have VPN running at home and if I am away, connect through the internet and get the VPN tunnel to my android so I can connect to the work websites through the Android browser? Or access my shared network drive?
Only other option I see is using Team Viewer of Splash Desktop to connect as a remote session, but that is not preferable .
