Android :: Android To Open Network Connection On Specified Network Interface - Network Type

Mar 6, 2009

I have been looking at the ConnectivityManager class documented at http://developer.android.com/reference/android/net/ConnectivityManage... .

I would like to know if an Android application can open a network connection (socket) on a specified network interface [on a device supporting multiple network interface types WiFi, Cellular, WiMax etc] ? I am looking for the capability for an application to open a socket on a given type of network for example over WiFi network or over 3G Cellular Data network.

If this is possible in Android, how would I code this requirement within the API Framework ? The ConnectivityManager enables an application to learn about available network connections and currently categorises them as either TYPE_WIFI or TYPE_MOBILE.

There is a member function in the ConnectivityManager class called requestRouteToHost(int, int) [url] which "Ensure that a network route exists to deliver traffic to the specified host via the specified network interface. An attempt to add a route that already exists is ignored, but treated as successful." Sounds like this would install an IP routing table entry to reach a given host via a specified network interface type (WiFi or Mobile). After calling this would it be sufficient for an application to open a socket and connect to the desired destination address ?

Or perhaps the application needs to bind() a socket to a local address of a network interface of the desired type (WiFi or Mobile) Or by setting a socket-level socket option of SO_DONTROUTE ?

Android :: Can My Phone Remember My Password For Wireless

Mar 31, 2010

Is there anyway for the phone to remember my password, so that when it tries to connect to the WiFi, it will NOT ask me to enter the password. It is a hexadecimal number and it is frustrating me when I have to enter it every few minutes when the phone finds a different network, then wants to switch back to mine.

Android :: WiFi Network - Password Invalid After Disconnected

Apr 20, 2010

I have a WiFi network at work and it requires a New password generated from a secure token each time when I try to re-connect. Since Android WiFi setting remembers the password, if it try to re-connect using the saved password (it becomes invalid after disconnected), my secure token become invalid. If I remember to remove the connection each time after I disconnect, I can enter new password when the connection is discovered as a new connection again. The problem is what if I forget. In addition it is inconvenient. Do you know any Android application supports remove a chosen WiFi connection password each time the connection is lost?

Android :: Connecting To A Wireless Network Which Redirects To A Login Page

Jul 13, 2010

I need to connect to an institutional wireless network whose only security is achieved thanks to a login webpage. Once I'm connected to the wireless network, the first thing that I can do is to go to the login webpage. The problem is that most applications do not support this kind of login procedure, and therefore find no internet access (`connection problem' is written on my screen when I want to use the wireless network for surfing). Is there a workaround to this.

We have multiple Android phones, including my Incredible, in our house on our wireless network. Is there a way to assign a name to each phone so that they are identified on the router like computers and other devices are? Currently the Android phones just show up as "unknown" device. The Wi-Fi is secured with 128-bit encryption, so I'm not concerned with the neighbors connecting, but it would be nice to be able to see which phones are on the network at any one time.

Motorola Droid :: Wireless Network Settings

Dec 3, 2009

Been running with my Droid now for 3 weeks and I'm finally going to start playing with running wifi at work (my cube and only my cube I have 3g issues ) and I connected to it a couple days ago. Our network admin in his infinite wisdom created a pass key that is like 46 characters long. So I entered it, and was connected. Fast forward to today, I enabled wifi again and tried connecting to the network and it asked me for the pass key again. Does it now save that? Is it supposed to? I would assume that would be a pretty big PITA that every time I want to connect to wireless network that I've connected to before it re-asks me my password.

I'm not sure if that's what the issue is.A little bit of info about my home network - I have a Motorola SBG900 cable modem w/built-in wireless access. HTC EVO 4G : Not Connecting To Secured Wireless Network - Wpa Wap2 Tkip

Jun 6, 2010

Here's my issue- At home, I am having trouble connecting to my secured wireless network (wpa, wap2, tkip) on my EVO. The EVO will show my network, but it won't seem to connect. I've tried restarting my Belkin wireless router, rescanning for networks on my EVO, and making sure I'm entering the correct pasword. Nothing seems to work. But, when I go to my girlfriend's house, I can connect to her unsecured wireless network. I'm thinking it may be the my router's security settings. Even though I have a strong 4G signal in my house, I still like to have the option to use my WiFi network from time to time.

Any thoughts?

Just to give it another try, I disabled my router security and even uninstalled WiFi finder...all of which did not work in establishing a connection. I'm starting to think it's my Belkin router. The only thing though, is that it played well with my Blackberry 8900.
