View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a String Array Resource that has about 1000 drug names
<string-array name="index">

Aspirin

Levitra

....
</string-array>
I tried to load this string array into a String[] inside an activity. Using the same syntax provided by Google's java documentation found here.
Resources res = getResources();
String[] drugs = res.getStringArray(R.array.index);
It appears my string-array has too many records and its causing my App to crash (stack-overflow?) When I reduce the string-array resource to about 506 records, the app works again, but adding even 1 more element in the string-array would crash the app. What should I do? I want to code logic to filter and do other things to the list. I do not have a SQL db in the app so I can't do the processing in the DB. Is there a way to iterate through the string-array resource without loading it into a String []? I notice the resource is a pointer. Or is there an alternative data structure or approach that would work?
I want to to start the application from beginning, once i click on home button. Now, If i click on home button, and i want to again open the application it preserve the initial state, and automatically ll go there, But I want it will start from beginning.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm planning to buy a new phone next week (last one got stolen), and I'm kinda thinking about an android one. I've got three requirements: -An easily manageble "to do"-list om the home screen (e.g stickynotes) -A good calendar (which may or may not be able to sync with google calendar, no biggie!) -Ability to sync my adress book with an online server (google sync?) every month or so...(That was two years' worth of contacts, damnit Anyway, my question is this: Would an android phone really be the best choice for me? I'm kinda on a tigt budget, and I've heard horror stories of Android phones/Iphones having to connect to the net every day or so... But the only thing I really need the internet for is for syncing (the adress book once a month, the calendar every week or so), checking my mail now and then and for downloading the occasional app (e.g. stickynotes).
View 10 Replies View Relatedso I've looked around but don't see any threads on this....but newho, onto the question. has anybody been able to sync their contacts via ATT online Address Book? I've seen like 5 completed syncs in the log, out of prolly 30 total attempts. Either way, i cant log in to check the contacts online. I get this:

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am buiding an Android app, and I have a problem to get resource from string.xml.
I need to have an URL in String.xml that will be used several times through the app.
I tried Resources.getText("my_url"), but this does not work. Eclipse complains when I use this.
Do you think this is the best way to do ?
I've been teaching myself Java over the last few weeks. I already know several OOP languages, so i was not too complicated. I have just learned some basic Swing and I now want to develop a simple app. How do I use Android-style Swing and custom graphics to do this?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have C application which is built with HEW compiler. Now i have got an requirement to run the same program on andriod mobile.
I installed ECLIPSE,android SDK, NDK, ADT. I created an android application. I converted android application into c/c++ application. I set ndk-build as build command, but i am getting ndk-build path not found. I already set the path in the environment variable before build the project.
I am experiencing a memory / resource leak on a T-Mobile G1 device with my application. I installed the "Task Manager" application from Android market and my memory usage is not monotonically increasing. It stays relatively flat over time. Furthermore, none of the other processes are chewing up tons of memory either (really, I can get into this state with just my app running). I am not experiencing this problem on any of the other Android phones (including Eris, Hero, and Droid).
The interesting thing is that if I kill my application, the phone is *still* very slow and sluggish. The only thing that seems to be able to get me out of this situation is a battery pull. If I run my application for about 3 hours, the phone starts to become very sluggish. Even simple operations like hitting the "home" button take many seconds. I'm not sure what to do at this point and am wondering where I can go from here.
I have a application 'A' and application 'B'. Say, I have a string resource in the application 'A'.
<string name="abc">ABCDEF</string>
How do I access the value of abc from the Activity in 'B'.
I tried the following method.
try { PackageManager pm = getPackageManager();
ComponentName component = new ComponentName( "com.android.myhome", "com.android.myhome.WebPortalActivity");
ActivityInfo activityInfo = pm.getActivityInfo(component, 0);
Resources res = pm.getResourcesForApplication(activityInfo.applicationInfo);
int resId = res.getIdentifier("abc", "string", null);
} catch(NameNotFoundException e){ }
Always resId is returned 0 always. Can anyone please let me know if I could access string abc from the application 'B'.
I find there was many discussions about the Style Guide when Android was still in Beta and RC. Now Android 1.0 has been released. The new release cupcake also went out. I am curious about whether Google has a plan to release a Style Guide for Android app development.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI tend to believe that developing mobile applications in an enterprise environment is best suited by developing intranet web applications. That said I have been asked to think about whether there are specific enterprise applications that could only be accomplished or would be more successful as native applications. I am curious as to what the Stack Overflow community thinks.
View 6 Replies View RelatedFirst and foremost, are there many android developers here? Is this a good place for Android related discussions?I seem to be missing a rather large concept of Android development. The gist is I am struggling understanding how to tie an application together. I'm not sure how to explain it, so I thought I would do my best with an example from the Android ApiDemo... assuming you are familiar with it.
Inside the com.example.android.apis.view namespace of the ApiDemo, there is a class called Animation3.java.Animation3 inherits the activity class and there is some code inside to display animation.I can't find a reference to the class (Animation3) anywhere in the demo code (except for its definition obviously). The only mention I found is in the manifest xml file. So how the heck does this activity get started? Don't we need to create an instance of the class somewhere and fire off a method to start it? I don't understand how to generate the code that ultimately glues this class to the rest of the application.Additionally, what about other classes like views or viewgroups? How do I generate code outside the class that initiates/starts/uses/calls (insert proper term) the class.I would appreciate any code examples as well as any concept explanation or reference documents. So far I've read pages and pages on activities and views but I'm really struggling how to tie things together.
I normally frequent the Nexus One forum, but have had to crawl my way out from there to come ask the wider Android community a question.
I'm about to apply for a mobile application development role and was wondering if any of you guys knew an approximate number of Android users (or point me in the direction of somewhere that might have the info). I was about to write something along the lines of the Android market allowing developers to easily (hum, that's an opinion there! ) share their creations with <insert amount here> Android users around the world, but realized I had no idea.
Just wondering how folks are publishing to the Market. Is there an open source reader program/application I can use to encode a book to a specific format then upload it to the Market? How does Android ensure that there isn't a copyright violation going on?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just would like to ask if anyone have encountered this strange behavior with other phone models or specifically HTC Tattoo wherein I have this service running for almost 5 hrs then after sometime the system kills the service. The phone does not restart actually nor any other 3rd party applicaton running in the background. Its only the service I have is running. I was wondering what were the causes that would force to close my service. Another strange thing is that before the service was closed I still can see all the logs in the logcat but after I saw that the service was closed I don't see any log information already seems like the phone was totally disconnected from my eclipse.
