Android :: Moving Hold Button On Phone App
Oct 14, 2010
Is there a way we can access the android phone app and move it's hold button to Right down instead of left top currently? Basically is it a non-open source google app (I see contacts is one) or can we download the source and modify it?

the worst thing about the nexus one is that you power on the phone by simply pressing the power button, not by *holding* it. how can I just *check* if the phone is turned off? when i go to a movie, i just want to double-check it's off, so i short-press power button but then if it's already off then i would instead be turning it on and have to wait for the long boot-up process. i just can't "make sure it's off".

On the iPhone, when you hold down the top button and the button on the bottom it takes a snap shot of your screen, I love that feature. Does the droid have it?

I'm not even sure what to call this thread, so I had a hard time searching the market and threads here for what I need. Back when I had my Treo 650, i had a program on it that would allow me to hold a keyboard button down, and instead of repeating the key over and over, it would cycle through the lowercase letter to the uppercase letter, to the symbol on that key. I'm looking for something similar for my Droid's physical keyboard. Basically, I want to be able to be typing along, and if I press the "G" key get a "g", if I hold it for 600ms get a "G", and if I hold it for 1200ms get a "%". Obviously the hold times should be adjustable. Any ideas if an app like this exists?

Since the introduction of the new Voice Search and Vlingo being free, I've been wanting to re-enable the search button but only the tap and hold part of it to quickly launch either program. I've been looking around but can't seem to find a way to just enable the tap and hold feature.

I used to have a Samsung Omnia HD and to unlock the phone, you would just hold down the unlock button. Is there any app that would enable this for the Captivate?

If you press and hold the 'home' button for a second or two it brings up a list of your most used (I think) apps.

I am writing a application where I am dealing with 4 activities, let's say A, B, C & D. Activity A invokes B, B invokes C, C invokes D. On each of the activity, I have a button called "home" button. When user clicks on home button in any of the B, C, D activities, application should go back to A activity screen ?
How to simulate "home" button in this case ?

I am writing a android application where, on startup activity view, I have a button "DoIt". When user clicks "DoIt" button, I start another activity with different layout. On newly started activity, I have a button "Back" which should take me to the first activity. How to accomplish this. What code should I write on OnClick method of "Back" button. Also, I want the newly created activity to die after back button is pressed and application comes back to start-up activity.

For those of you who have the phone already....as the title states, will the kickstand hold the phone upright ? Although, it may be a bit risky of it tipping over.

I, like everyone esle, am waiting on the Epic 4g but I have a theory on why Sprint will continue to hold off on the Epic, the Evo Shortage. Currently there is a shortage of HTC Evo's, and waiting lists for them at all the stores in my area. Last store I checked with had a waiting list of 70 people. Sprint actually stands to lose money if they released the Epic 4g before they filled the EVO orders. My prediction is we wont' see the Epic 4g released until the Evo shortage issue is resolved. If they have 70 people on a list for Evo's that's 70 guarenteed sales. anything they sell with the Epic is a bonus. if they release the epic too soon the people waiting for evo's could just get Epics and then they lose their bonus Epic Sales. Just a thought big business doesn't think "how can we make our customers happiest" they think "how can we make the most money out of the situation".

Not sure if this is a problem with the phone or not-also not sure if it was like it when I got it. I just became aware of the issue on Saturday night.I had the phone on a table and was holding it horizontally-I was trying to get it to switch to landscape view (so I could use full keyboard ) and could not get it to do so. The only sure way I can get it to switch to landscape view is to hold the phone vertically and then have it switch. Is there something wrong with the phone?

A poster said a week ago that basically putting one finger on the top left of your phone with a second on the lower left corner improves signal strength.
Well it works really well at my job (inside a big building) where I usually hover at 100db but using this method I get about 88-90db and adds 2 bars.
So my question is can I do something (or add something) that will duplicate that effect without having to hold my phone with a couple of fingers?

If I purchase an app with my current phone, and then I upgrade to a different phone in a few months, is there a way to take the apps with me? I have searched and can't find anything definitive. The ideal thing is if Google is storing my application history with my Google account somewhere, but I don't see where it would be.

I currently have a Windows Mobile phone in which I am heavily dependent on an application call Pocket Informant from a company called WebIS. It is a feature packed program that handles my Calendar/Contact/ToDo List. I find it much better than the built in Windows Mobile solution. Currently WebIS is developing a version of Pocket Informant for the Android OS. I am hoping that it will be out in August or September. In the mean time, I have purchased a DroidX and want to transfer all of my contacts, Calendar entries and Task (ToDos) over the DroidX. Can anyone offer help on the best way to do this? I would also be willing to purchased a third party app if it would make it easy and painless. I saw a program called Android Touchdown by Nitrodesk, but I am not sure that this would do want I need.

What do you guys think about having a special setting for the droid in snesoid(or any emulator). The setting would let you hold the phone "upside down" while the keyboard is out(make the screen the screen show upside down as well of course). That way its the tradional.dpad on left and buttons on right. I sent this to the programmer.but no luck. I dont think it would be too hard to keep your hands away from the screen and still play comfortably.

Many phones that have a dedicated call button allow you to hold it to redial the last number. This is something I've come to use a decent amount, so I'm wondering if the Captivate has a similar feature with either its physical keys or dock icons.
