i am using a MIUI-based rom and replaced sidekick with googlesearch, however, it also removed the sidekick recent apps/task manager without replacing it with the stock recent apps list
so now when i hold home, nothing happens..
I love my aria, i got it 9/29/10, for free from best buy because my contract expired... but ive already used 20MB and i only bought a 200MB plan... i might go to 2 gigs, but for an alternate, since my billing cycle ends the 28th of every month... if i disable application syncing, and mobile network from the hold menu... can i connect to my home wifi network, and go on the internet from there without that using any of my data plan?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI made my app compatible with both pre and post 3.0. Before 3.0 most phones had menu buttons which led to settings or other menu options. Since 3.0+ the dev guide has depreciated the menu button so phones don't need it. ICS and JB don't use them.
So how do I let users access it? In Gingerbread a user can press the menu button and then select the "Settings" link. Everyone knows what I mean but I feel I need to explain it: here's the dev guide anyway.
So if one of my users is on a 3.0+ device how can I let them get access to the settings page? I don't want to use the Action Bar like the dev guide suggests. That's a huge UI change just for one settings page.
I mean it's just one page and changing my UI to add a settings imageview would change the overall layout of main.xml which at the moment is just how i want it.
Dunno if this has been covered and maybe this is a stupid question. I have not had the phone long enough to have much call waiting experiences but the times I did, I noticed I had to press menu and then go thru a menu to "click over" to the other call. This is g=fine and dandy from the comfort of your couch but is not advisable if you are driving a car. Is there a one button shortcut to go to the other call without having to look at a menu?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am working on a device that does not have a hardware Home, Back or Menu button. I am trying to create a soft keyboard with only these three keys but I have not been able to get it working. Does anyone have any insight into my problem?
I first looked into injecting keypresses into a WindowManager but this functionality seems to have been removed.
I then looked at creating a custom soft keyboard but that will not work either. Custom soft keyboards only inject their input into the text fields they are attached to. I can't send a Home, Back or Menu keypress to the Android system.
I finally got the Home button working by using this intent to tell Android to go to the Home screen: Intent HomeIntent = new Intent(); HomeIntent.setAction(Intent.ACTION_MAIN); HomeIntent.addCategory(Intent.CATEGORY_HOME);
Unfortunately, I have not found an Intent to send for Menu and Back.
Does anyone have a problem with the backlight on the Home/Menu/Back/seach buttons. On my Incredible sometimes they come on when I bring it out of sleep and stay on. Other times they don't come on at all. Sometimes they just come on in the middle of doing something on the phone.
Have added some apps from the market but can't remember if it was like this from the start. Did a reboot and battery pull but it's still occuring.
I have also had a couple phantom reboots when in sleep mode so not sure if it's related.
I would like to have the shortest possible way to send a quick email as a mailto link on the desktop.
What potentially should work is the following url as a bookmark and save that to the home screen:
Code:.............
On the iPhone, when you hold down the top button and the button on the bottom it takes a snap shot of your screen, I love that feature. Does the droid have it?

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy phone unlocked in my pocket I have a droid eris btw. I also have the lockpattern where you connect he dots set up.
In my pocket it did the wrong lock pattern five times and now it is asking me to put my email and password in to unlock it. The problEm is that the keyboard does not come up even when I hold menu.
I tend to use the phone in dark places often. I dim the screen but the little ball and the other menu buttons stay bright. Is there any way to dim them or just turn them off?
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy phone keeps turning on in my pocket and dialing numbers without me knowing. I tried the lock screen and ended up locking my phone out due to too many tries in my pocket and ending up having to reset my phone to use again. Even with the lock screen on, the menu button still turn the phone on.
View 9 Replies View RelatedDouble-clicking menu unlocks it, but if you are returning to the home screen, up pops the menu bar because then i have to click "back" to get rid of it.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm not even sure what to call this thread, so I had a hard time searching the market and threads here for what I need. Back when I had my Treo 650, i had a program on it that would allow me to hold a keyboard button down, and instead of repeating the key over and over, it would cycle through the lowercase letter to the uppercase letter, to the symbol on that key. I'm looking for something similar for my Droid's physical keyboard. Basically, I want to be able to be typing along, and if I press the "G" key get a "g", if I hold it for 600ms get a "G", and if I hold it for 1200ms get a "%". Obviously the hold times should be adjustable. Any ideas if an app like this exists?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI tried searching for this, to no avail, but here is the situation. I was on my main Home screen and just trying to figure stuff out and when I long press the menu key it brings up the onscreen keyboard. I figured it was for contact search or something, but it did nothing when I typed...or so I thought. Now everytime I back out to the Home screen a little transparent "window" displays with letters i first typed. I cant type new letters to display or even use the backspace key to erase. Any one know what Im talking about?

View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there a way we can access the android phone app and move it's hold button to Right down instead of left top currently? Basically is it a non-open source google app (I see contacts is one) or can we download the source and modify it?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSince the introduction of the new Voice Search and Vlingo being free, I've been wanting to re-enable the search button but only the tap and hold part of it to quickly launch either program. I've been looking around but can't seem to find a way to just enable the tap and hold feature.
View 5 Replies View Relatedthe worst thing about the nexus one is that you power on the phone by simply pressing the power button, not by *holding* it. how can I just *check* if the phone is turned off? when i go to a movie, i just want to double-check it's off, so i short-press power button but then if it's already off then i would instead be turning it on and have to wait for the long boot-up process. i just can't "make sure it's off".

I have installed open home as my main screen replacement and last time I was in the menu option I selected the default button to Open Home. So now when I click the home screen I dont get the options to switch between Open Home, HTC's standard and or ahome etc. How do I remove the default setting?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWotcher all, I've had my HTC "Hero" (daft name) for about a week now and since the first few days after I'd installed a few apps, when I long-press the Home screen button, the list of last-run apps appears as expected, however the TouchFlo app (or the Home app if I'm experimenting with stock android) also appear in this list. The next time I use the Home button it gives me the choice of using Home or TouchFlo and setting one of them as the default. I hit the "use as default" button and hit TouchFlo and all is well again. However as soon as I use a long-press of the Home button again, the phone forgets the default setting and reverts to asking me which one of Home or TouchFlo I want to use as the default action for Home button presses.Does anyone know a fix for this? I've gone into App Manager and unset all the defaults, but that's had no effect. I am living with it by just not using the long-press of the Home key, as long as I avoid that the phone remembers to use TouchFlow as the default action for Home presses. I've also tried switching to using the stock Android Home app instead of HTC's but still get the phone forgetting the default when I use the long-press of Home.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI have just got my hero back from RMA with a new screen. (the old one was fubar). But now the back button is bringing me the homescreen. And not the last screen. So if I browse my settings, and go 4 screens in. I want the back button to bring me to screen 3 (like it used to), and not to the home screen.
