Is there any way to get the location or (x,y) coordinates of the launcher icons on home screen. I want my android application to get the launcher icons location or (x,y) coordinates at runtime.

I saw on someone's review of an Open Home icon pack that the icons looked good in Launcher Pro.
I'm wondering if anyone knows how to make them work -- I can't figure out how.
Whenever I am using any app and press the home button, the home screen blacks out for a few secs and it takes around 10 sec to get all the icons back and before I can start using my phone again. I am using a non rooted mytouch 3g.
This problem does not happen if I exit an app by pressing the back button. It becomes very annoying at times.
I don't have the accurate terminology and maybe that's a part of my question. In the android home screen, we have the ability to slide the screen left and right and display multiple pages. Each of these pages has a different set of icons. in the mac world these would be called "spaces". What is it called in the android world. More importantly is there a standard control that can be used to achieve this effect ?

View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there an easy way to imitate the Launcher look and feel? I mean having three full screen views which can be switched between by sliding/dragging right or left. I had a look at the source code to see how it was done and found that the magic is done in the "com.android.launcher" package. I take it that it is inadvisable to use the same classes as those in that package due to them not being part of the official SDK and therefore up for change at any point? If so, is there a good way to get a similar effect from the official SDK? The Sliding Drawer would have given me what I needed if it was possible to have more than one defined, but that seems to not be supported. (the handles stack on top of each other) So you know what problem I'm trying to solve, here is some background: I've got the an application which shows a photo. I want to maximize the viewing area of the photo so it takes up most of the screen. At the same time I'd like the user to easily be able to bring into view the metadata of the photo. That is where I wanted the 'slide android view into view' functionality similar to that found in the Launcher and/or the Sliding Drawer.

Sorry if this sounds silly, but what are the benefits of using a launcher or home screen replacement (launcherpro, ADW, etc?) I mean, they look like they are copies of Sense UI, so I really do not see the benefit if you are on an HTC phone. I could definitely see if for other Android devices, but I am just confused as to what the benefit is.

Here is what is happening with my Droid. I have the official release on my Droid and when I leave and app (Like Dolphin or Handcent) my icons on my home screens take 5-10 secs to refresh and it can take another 5 seconds before my home screen will react to any touches.
Also when I unlock my phone it can take close to 20 secs sometimes (not all the time) for my icons to come in and it takes at least 5 secs no matter what to get my screen to react to any touches.
Is anyone else having this issue? What can I do? Now I almost wish I had never updgraded to 2.2.....
Those of you who have root access in there devices may have noticed icons missing on there home screens. If you are wondering why this is due to using Titanium Backup to move apps to the SD card. This only happens with certain apps, usually only the ones that can't be moved from the devices settings. To fix this simply move said apps back to internal storage and all will be well.

However, recently, hitting the home screen button brings up a dialog asking whether I want to use SenseUI or the stock Android launcher. I'm aware this normally happens if you go into applications and clear the defaults for SenseUI.
However, I haven't done this. Moreover, even when I tell it to "save" the default for SenseUI when the dialog comes up, it seems to "forget" it after some time and asks for it again.
Whats the best home launcher app out there that is free and offers themes and rotation recognition and widget support?...

Samsung GS II, I9100, international version running Android 4.04. Latest version of GO Launcher. Running GO Windows theme.
I cannot figure out how to add a new home page. I'm at ten right now. If I use Settings/Edit to get the multiple page view of home screens, there is no plus sign to add a home page. I must be missing something.
Has anybody figured out how to change icons? For example, I have a web shortcut on my home screen for Google and the default icon for it is a real eyesore.

(the one of the predator and alien playing chess).Now all 7 home screens are completely blank. No widgets or icons. Somehow everything on the home screens has been wiped. I removed the picture from the internal memory folder.
