Someone upgraded my app, and receive this message "The linked program is no longer installed on the phone" What did I do wrong to cause this? The app and the upgrade were signed with the same key as far as I know. Some of the builds were on a linux machine, and other were on Windows. Could that cause this message?

I had my phone rooted just running stock 2.2, last night an OTA came to my phone while I was at work, and my brother (doesn't know anything about root) accepted the update. Now whenever I try to do something in Rom Manager I get an error message :"an error occurred while attempting to run privalaged commands." Set CPU does not work, and Super User is still in my app drawer.
Does anyone know whats going on, it appears my phone is no longer rooted, but I still have SU in my app drawer, how can I fix this? Is there a way to completely unroot my phone? or revert back to where I was before the OTA? Everytime I try to load Rom Manager and restore my phone it gets stuck with a picture of a phone and a "!" mark.
Is there a way to programmatically without root check and see how a program was installed?
The only solution I've been able to find is using root - and tapping into a database that the Vending application uses;

Most specifically I can check to this database using my package name and/or signature and see if it's ever been installed by the market. Then if it has you could check to see if it's been uninstalled.
As for background, I'm just messing around with ways to distinguish real users from pirated versions. I've noticed from an application I've posted that I only have approximately 100 downloads and 50% active, yet my server which is used by the application shows approximately 200ish unique users within the past few days.
I've been working on an application for the past week or so, and when I went to test it the other day, my console read the following to me:

The icon for the program is present in my emulator, and I have added android.permission.ACCESS_CHECKIN_PROPERTIES to my Manifest.
For some reason the emulator tells me that the program is not installed "on this phone" when I try to run the program using the icon in the emulator. Which I find interesting considering that the console says it was installed successfully..
I installed MR2 a few days ago rather than waiting on the OTA update. Now I can't download a couple paid apps from the Market that I had previously paid for. WeatherBug Elite is one of them, it doesn't even show up when I do a search in the Market.
Some searching turned up a similar issue on other HTC devices on another carrier, something about an OS foot print? Is there a way to get around this? It's pretty obnoxious.
How do I get an update on a program i have installed? I only find updated if I am in the Market and see that it says an update available.

I went on their website, downloaded all the required software (Eclipse, The Android SDK, ADT Plugin for Eclipse etc.). I followed the "Hello World" tutorial supplied (link text). I have it using the Android SDK 2.1. The program worked almost flawlessly. It runs fine on the Android emulator, but doesn't install on any Android phones. I don't own an Android phone, so I had three of my friends try to install the program on theirs. The phones we used were:
ROOTED G1 running 2.1
Droid running 2.1
Another Droid running 2.1
I emailed the .apk to myself in gmail, and accessed it via the Android emulator. It ran and installed the package just fine. However, when my friends tried to install it on their phones, they were all met with this error: "[Parse Error] There is a problem parsing the package".

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Motorola XT319 Android 2.3 I tried to save some space linking (LINK2SD) the contacts app and contact storage app. I first had to Move them to user app (as they were system apps) and then proceeded to link. All went well but when I tried to open the PHONE app y will NOT load. Nor the CONTACTS app. I tried to UNlink it and switch it back to system app but it wouldn't. I can't make any phone calls.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI got my DroidX on 7/15 and on 7/16 linked all my phone contacts who have facebook to a facebook contact via social networking. I kike how the phone sets the picture, I like that in the contact entry it shows me thier status on facebook. What I don't like is that when I open up a contac that is both a phone contact and a facebook contact and I tap the facebook icon on the contact screen I get 3 options (view profile, write on wall, and poke). If I open up a contact that is only facebook and tap that same Icon I get 4 options (view profile, message, write on wall, and poke). Is there some reason linking the facebook contact to a phone contact needs to remove that option? I'd like to be able to send a facebook message from the phone to any contact as easy as I can send a text message.

View 2 Replies View Related I have a just came from a Xperia Z1 (Viber working) to a Nexus 5 and put on my defacto apps of which Viber is one of them and straight away after entering the phone number it said waiting for sms activation and a couple of seconds after it pops up with 'error' on the screen and that is all it says.
Prior to this I have had many android phones and never had an issue with activating viber.
Troubleshooting wise I have tried all of the below and nothing so far works.
1. Tried activating on wifi and 3g
2. Tried my wife's number on my nexus 5 which gets past the initial country code and phone number screen and tries to send an sms
3. Tried my number on my wife's phone and get the same lovely 'Error' popup
4. Placed my wife's sim card into my phone and activation works so proving this issue is number specific not phone specific.

The phone and cables are good as I can get HTC Sync to work on my old PC and this one worked just a few weeks ago and I can even get it to work in a VMware session. But for whatever reason the phone just keeps showing up as Unknown and is put under Other devices as “Android phone”. On the other PC and in the VMware it is added as "My HTC" under Android USB Devices in Device Manager.
I’ve tried a bunch of uninstalling and rebooting and so on but something on my new Windows 7 PC is stuck when connecting the phone. It thinks it has no driver for it but it does. If I try and point any of the HTC INF files Windows just says they are not for this device.
So does anyone know of a program or anything where us members of AF can just hang out and chat in real time on our droid phones, or preferably all platforms (ios,palm,droid,winmo)? if there isnt one setup would this besomething people are interested in?

It seems most of the useful information I find on this topic through google is outdated (motz) or simply does not account for the complexity of my program. I have been able to run simple C programs but fail when attempting to use libraries outside of Android's Bionic/libc.So my questions are:
Is it possible to port pre-existing *.so libraries onto Android? If so, how could I do this without seg faulting?
Should I be using the CodeSourcery compiler (arm-none-linux-gnueabi-*)? How can I work around the lack of a separate thread library?
When i click on a MP3 link, it always pops up the media player.
Can I make it so i download the MP3 to my SD card?

In the emulator, the program behaves like it should. However, when I put this application on my phone (Nexus one), it doesn't switch to the new Activity when I touch the screen after I take a picture. If I touch the screen without taking a picture, it switches to the new activity. I can't figure out why my phone won't switch to the new Activity after taking a picture.
What is the best "Wallet", "Password Protector" type program out there for the Android OS? I would prefer one that has a desktop application as well. I was reading the forums on "Splash ID" but it is getting ripped because it cannot tether to phone, you have to use WIFI to sync it with desktop application. I sent them an email and asked if they were looking into a tethering solution and they have yet to replay and it has been a while!
Any thoughts, a good "wallet" application anyone?
It was working fine until today. I haven't been able to get any new emails all day today, but my Gmail email comes in just fine.
I tried deleting the account from my phone and re-adding it, but it still doesn't work.
I know that you are supposed to initially let your phone charge for 8 hours, but is it a problem if you charge it longer? I should be getting mine tonight, and plan on plugging it in when i get it but just want to make sure it won't harm the battery to leave it plugged in overnight for longer than 8 hours.

I never had this problem before with gmail even with "Always On Mobile Data" disabled, but now it seems like the as soon as the 3G radio goes to sleep, I don't get anything until it wakes back up. Any one else having this problem with the latest version of the gmail.app?
View 1 Replies View RelatedGood Evening, I doing a bit of surfing this morning with the Desire and put it in down for a few hours and when I cam back to it about 4 hours later I found the battery was dead.. After charging it up and turning it back on all it will do is show the white screen with green HTC letters before rebooting again.
Very frustrating as I have just got this one setup the way I like it since being replaced. I can not even say why it has happened, I use no task killers and the only app ran was the internet via wifi.
I have called Orange and they will send a new one out tomorrow to replace it, so good for the customer services but this is my second faulty desire.
I tried loading the phone with the volume down button pressed and using fastboot / recovery but no joy there.
Before it goes back tomorrow I really want to reset the phone to factory defaults as all my data will remain in the phone and I do not trust any 3rd party to clear it down.
Does anyone know what I can do to clear the data please?
am supposed to be switching my Family Plan to Sprint come May. Right now I have an AT&T contract until 7/11/10. My plan is to sell my iPhone 3G before the new iPhone comes out and the price drops for 3Gs on Ebay (they are still going for $250-350 right now). I was going to sell my iPhone and use that money to cancel my AT&T 2 months early then buy the EVO. The problem is the EVO comes out in June, at least most likely, and I (plus my family) couldn't go without a phone plan for a month.Is there any way I could get a loner phone(like they give you when your phone is being repaired) or something from Sprint until the EVO comes out? Or any other suggestions?

Then this morning Verizon pushes out some update and suddenly when im on the phone 3g disappears.from the top bar and I get an error message that I can't connect to the web. What happened and is there anyway.to reverse this?

Prior to the 2.2 upgrade and even for a while after the upgrade it used to show the actual city or town I was in. I've played around with the settings under Settings -> Location but nothing makes a difference.
