I have some tabs based on layouts with their own xml description, but when i tried to set tab content i got such a result:

How do I go about creating the following layout in Android?
I want a "header", that is, a header that stays the same at all times. The only thing that should change is the area below the header.
Think of it as a webpage, where the content-area is where its all happening =)

Sure, its easy enough to create a LinearLayot, add a View on the top and then another view below that - tada! But what Im after is how you "set up" or design the project so its easy to just change whats in the Content.
What I really would like is to be able to "swipe" (see here) the area and then just "roll in" a new View/thing in the Content-area, but keep the same header.
I am using eclipse 3.5 with the ADT plugin.when I view layout xml files, i get two tabs in the view the source code view and a graphical view.the graphical view almost never works for any of my layouts.it usually shows "NullPointerException: null" at the top and nothing else. when it does work, it often does not match what i get in the simulator or device.it seems like this thing simply is not ready for prime time; although the idea is very cool.has anyone else had much success with it?
View 5 Replies View RelatedCurrently I'm working on a dialog which consists of title, description, tags and footer. The title can be long and in this case the text should automatically be displayed in multiple lines. The description is also longer and should fill multiple lines.
At the bottom of the dialog has to be the footer (also if the title and description don't fill whole screen).
I tried to do create the layout described about but had a problem with long text - if the content is long it doesn't display multiple lines but extends main view (LinearView) so the content extends over the visible area.
Here I'm pasting the print screen of the current state and the mockup of the desired layout:
TextView "Footer" and buttons OK and Cancel should appear at the bottom of the screen and the title ("Title Title Title...) and description text should automatically appear in multiple lines instead of extending the parent view.
I have a layout which contains a TextView.
The content of the TextView might change on runtime. (discussed on a different issue here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3683727/layout-with-dynamic-position )
I can position the layout by drag&drop. If the size of the layout doesn't change, the position stays, but as soon as the size of the layout changes (because more text inside the TextView) the position is reseted.
I use the layout(left, top, right, bottom) to position the layout.
Now I don't know where I should add my layout() call to make sure it stays at the right position...

I'm using data to build elements of a ViewGroup. The ViewGroup are LinearLayouts, except the leaves, which are TextViews. Because Data draws the hierarchy, I inflate the LinearLayouts and TextViews from individual XML files programatically on the fly.
My Problem:
When I create a LinearLayout with the attribute wrap_content, then inflate a TextView or other LinearLayout into it, I can't get the parents (or enough of them, anyway) to redraw, respecting the new view. These LinearLayouts always seem to come out at 0 size, because when they are first created (before their children are inflated), they wrap around nothing. I've tried calling some stock methods of ViewGroup but nothing seems to work.
I am trying out this table layout in which there are three columns, each column utilizing the maximum space as they could (using strechColumn tag). Now when a column gets content which is too long, then table layout jumps of the screen.
How can i set the content of a column to wrap, so that table layout dont jump off the screen.

I am unable to override attributes when using <include> in my Android layout files. When I searched for bugs, I found Declined Issue 2863: "include tag is broken (overriding layout params never works)"
Since Romain indicates this works in the test suites and his examples, I must be doing something wrong.

I would like to create an application that has 5 images, 4 of which are small, and one is larger. The 4 small images I would like to place in the corners of the screen, and the big image I want to be right in the center. Like this: http://www.eng.utah.edu/~jwilson/files/layout.png
What is the best type of layout to accomplish this? I would like the layout to work on various devices, so some kind of fluid method is preferred over absolute positioning. Seems like a table view would work if the images were the same size, but they're not.
In Android when I am adding a view object like ImageView to FrameLayout view and then immediately trying to call layout() method to repositioned the added view object it is not working. But when I call the layout method alone after some new event e.g. touch event then layout() seems to work. This also happens when bringToFront() and layout() is used together, layout() does not seems to work together with other method. Is there any reason why is this like this? Also instead of adding view object in the middle of the screen can it be ADDED at some specific location in FrameLayout?

I am facing problem in running application with HIGH & LOW density with single layout(xml file). I have read so many threads and verified developers.android site too..
All mentioned to specify the size of the components should be in dp or wrap_content or fill_content, then android itself take care of the density use,since android is density independent.
And also to place the layouts in layout-nodpi folder for density free. Then in one of the thread, they mentioned to use
<supports-screens android:resizeable="true"
android:largeScreens="true" android:normalScreens="true"
android:anyDensity="true"></supports-screens>.
I also tried by placing the layouts in ldpi,mdpi,xhdpi and hdpi.But no use.
I have tried all the above,but i couldnt get the application UI same in two different density.. I am using "Funbook micromax"[Normal density] and "Intex iBuddy"[Low density] model, both are 7 Inch.

This may seem like a stupid question but I need to be sure. I was wondering if it was possible to pro-grammatically change the Content Provider used when making a query given a Content URI. The reason being I need to know if it's possible to force the Calendar/Contacts applications to read from a different database via a different Content Provider temporarily while my application is running, so that I can reuse those applications to display my own data. Since the Content URI s are hard coded in each of these applications the only way it might be possible is if we could somehow temporarily change the Content Provider used for a given URI. I know this probably isn't possible, I just need to show it isn't. Could someone confirm this can't be done?

In the notepad example and others, the content provider never even declares its CONTENT_URI anywhere inside itself, yet the docs say to publicly declare this. It's declared in a different class. So when an activity queries a content provider with a CONTENT_URI, how does Android know which one I want. I see no link between a content provider and its CONTENT_URI declared in another class.
I also don't how to think about intents and content providers. I know that you don't call an intent on a content provider. But an activity queries a content provider without an intent, and an activity has a mimetype attribute in the manifest that would seem to tie it to a content provider.
how can i create a custom content provider like contact content provider? i know how to create custom content providers but i want to integarte to device such a way that it canbe accessed by all application installed in that device.

Is it possible to build a GridView object in XML with 3 columns and 4 rows of Image buttons? It doesn't seem to have similar containment relationship like LinearLayout or RelativeLayout viewgroups.

Can you please explain what are the difference between these directories?
I've successfully created a countdown kitchen timer activity, however my goal is to have an activity that has 3 timers on it that all work independently. I created a separate layout just for the timer itself and moved the timer code into a class and I've used layoutinflater to create the views and then added them into the linear layout for the activity. I get the layouts fine, however there's no functionality. There doesn't seem to be anything that ties the class code to the activity. How should I approach this? Can anyone point me to some working example code?

[___Button1____] [___Button2___] [___Button3___] [___Button4___]
When someone clicks on Button2, I want the toolbar to change to:
[___Button1____] [___________Button2___________] [___Button3___]
The toolbar should transition from the first state to the second state through a smooth animation. I would like to use a scale animation on Button2, and while that is happening, Button3 and Button 4 should move to the right (while the animation is going on). At the end of the animation (or maybe during), I will fade Button4 out.
Question: How do I achieve an animation of the layout of the toolbar such that only one component (i.e. Button2) is being scaled while the others are not being scaled - the layout is simply updated during the animation of Button2.
I looked at LayoutAnimationController, but it does not appear to allow me to either:
1. specify different animations for the different components, OR
2. indicate that only animate one component and don't animate the others.
I can't scale the entire toolbar because that distorts Button1/3/4 which I don't want.
