Android :: Images Are Not Loaded From SDCard
Oct 16, 2009
I have an activity that loads and displays images from the SDCard. I create a new AVD, specify the desired image of the sd card (which has all my pictures already loaded), specify that AVD for deployment, and start the application. I noticed a strange behavior. At first, the images are not loaded; the getView method is never called, although the constructor of my adapter is called. If I close the application, and open the Gallery app that comes pre-installed, I see that the sd card folder has the correct number of images, and it 'displays' the first four. If I start my application again, those four images are displayed, and only those. If I go back to the Gallery application, open the sd card folder so that it loads all images, and restart my application, all images are successfully displayed. Any reason why this happens? I am using version 1.6, and (part of) my code is below: Code...

I am developing an app that I wish to have pre-loaded with product images.Currently, I am accessing them from the resources folder 'drawable'. However, I also want the user to be able to add to list of products later by retrieving product information and products from a web server.
I can't access the resources folder at run time to save the images, so I need to have a single place to store them and retrieve them later.I have tried saving to the application directory, but am not having much success.I believe that storing images in the database is not considered good practice.

I'm trying to load/reference images from the app's assets folder from within a HTML page in a WebView. Unlike in most of the examples the HTML page itself is not located in the assets folder but is loaded from a server via http. The background of this question are some performance improvements which should reduce the loading time (and the amount of transferred data) by loading static images directly from the device. I'm not sure if Android has some restrictions here because there's a certain possibility to exploit the app by allowing access to the local file storage from a remotely loaded webpage.

I have pushed around 10 files of each image(*.png ), audio(*.mp3) and video(*.mp4 & *.3gp) after that I have restarted the emulator and when I open the gallery application I see only a few files being present in sdcard. (in my case 1 video, 2 images and 2 audio clips) .
is this a bug in emulator?
because I have written a piece of code that displays the images/audio/video . But due to above mentioned issue I'm not able to display/play the images.
snippet of implementation is as follows code...

I have several images present in different folders in my sdcard. I would like to display a list of thumbnails. So what I have done is while rendering any row in the list I read the file in an input stream, get the byte array, decode it to obtain a bitmap and set it in an imageview.
So far so good. But when I scroll the list, the list scrolls in jerks. I believe this is because decoding a bitmap from byte array takes some time. What I would like to know is that, is there any optimization which I can do to improve the performance, or better still is there any better method to achieve what I want ?

In my application users take photos with an Activity that implements SurfaceHolder.Callback. The uri.toString() is then passed as an extra to a subsequent Activity that displays the image. All fine, except for in Android 1.6 the jpgs on the sdcard have a strange noise when looking at them through mac finder or win explorer after mounting the sdcard. The images have purple and yellow stripes on their upper half. Fine on camera gallery.
Here's some relevant code.

I replaced my original sdcard with a sandisk 16gb card. Everything went well until I started getting these blasted read on errors. Earlymon suggested a fix from another board but I don't have a stand alone card reader so I couldn't do it that way.
I was wondering if I just backed up all my stuff from my sdcard to my iMac and then just reformatted my sdcard via the phone, would that solve my problems?

I'm basically using the same method of loading bitmaps in OpenGL that the SpriteMethodTest example uses and have been unable to get rid of an annoying outline that appears around all of my images.
For example, If I were to load an image of a white circle on a white background, I would expect to see nothing. Instead, I would see my circle because its edge would be gray. In SpriteMethodTest, I replaced the background image with white and was able to see that the edges of the android images flying around also don't seem to be rendered correctly.
Does anyone know how to load images in OpenGL without having a thin outline appear around the images?

I'm working to convert some background images to nine patch so they scale better on different phones.
The problem is that if I have the following resource structure: drawable-hdpi/background.png drawable-hdpi/button.png drawable-mdpi/background.png drawable-mdpi/button.png drawable-ldpi/background.png drawable-ldpi/button.png and then I drop a new drawable-hdpi/background.9.png file into the mix, it breaks button.png during the pre-compile. The error is "No resource found that matches the given name (at 'background' with value '@drawable/button').Simply removing that one nine patch file fixes the build. Should I be able to have some nine patch images and some normal ones, or to have nine patch only in hdpi but not mdpi or ldpi? This is Eclipse 3.5.1 with the latest ADT.

I have an Android application that works off of a smaller database, around 300 entries. To view the database, I have created a custom view that contains individual rows of data. Then I query the database, and add each line to a newly created custom view.
The problem is that it takes a little white for all of this to be created/loaded, so when you open the application, it sits for a few seconds.
How can I load one line of data, then display it, then the next, append it, etc.?

I have an extended BaseAdapter in a ListActivity: private static class RequestAdapter extends BaseAdapter{ and some handlers and runnables defined in it
CODE:.......
In the getView function of the Adapter, I'm getting the view like this:
CODE:..........
and the image is getting loaded this way:
CODE:.................
Now, the problem I'm having is that if there are more items that need to display the same picture, not all of those pictures get displayed. When you scroll up and down the list maybe you end up filling all of them.
When I tried the commented out line (holder.avatar.setImageBitmap...) the app sometimes force closes with "only the thread that created the view can request...". But only sometimes.

I've recently started working with the SoundPool class in SDK 1.1R1, and noticed that my app deadlocks from time to time, or sounds are not loaded. I remember reading, back in November, that this was to be addressed in the next SDK. I've used pretty much the same code that others have used and most of the time it works for a bit. Just a minute ago, the app completely crashed with no "Force Close" and returned to the home screen. Logcat reveals that "HeapWorker is wedged: 26577ms spent inside Landroid/media/SoundPool;.finalize()V" I'm not sure if this is the same issue others had with SoundPool or if I have encountered an entirely new beast.
