Android :: Web Image Loaded By Thread
Jun 2, 2010
I have an extended BaseAdapter in a ListActivity: private static class RequestAdapter extends BaseAdapter{ and some handlers and runnables defined in it
CODE:.......
In the getView function of the Adapter, I'm getting the view like this:
CODE:..........
and the image is getting loaded this way:
CODE:.................
Now, the problem I'm having is that if there are more items that need to display the same picture, not all of those pictures get displayed. When you scroll up and down the list maybe you end up filling all of them.
When I tried the commented out line (holder.avatar.setImageBitmap...) the app sometimes force closes with "only the thread that created the view can request...". But only sometimes.

I use http://stackoverflow.com/questions/541966/android-how-do-i-do-a-lazy-load-of-images-in-listview/3068012#3068012 to load images in a ListView and a GridView. It works but the images are loaded form bpttom to top. How to fix that?
Bonus Question: Can I use a loading animation in a image view while the real image is loaded? Right now it's just a default image.

I like that my GUI appears immediatly when the User starts the APP. Than some Data (text, Pictures) come loaded in the Background (like Youtube APP) The Listview and Gallery comes updated automaticly with this new Data.
I initiate my Listview, start a Thread and load the Data....and than the Listview does not come updated!!
Several People write I should use notifyDataSetChanged(). But I can not place this Command in my Thread (just unknown).

I have the following code running on my Android device. It works great and displays my list items wonderfully. It's also clever in the fact it only downloads the data when it's needed by the ArrayAdapter. However, whilst the download of the thumbnail is occurring, the entire list stalls and you cannot scroll until it's finished downloading. Is there any way of threading this so it'll still scroll happily, maybe show a place holder for the downloading image, finish the download, and then show?
I think I just need to put my downloadImage class into it's own thread so its executed separately from the UI. But how to add this into my code is the mystery!
CODE:........................

I am writing an application in which i need to handle messages between the main thread(the deafult UI related thread) and the user created Gamethread.
The requirement is like this.
An activity(say "Activity_X") is setting the view by "setContentView(some "View_Y")". In "Activity_X" i have implemeted "onCreateOptionsMenu()" and "onOptionsItemSelected()" fucntions for creating menus & a switch case for action to be taken on selecting those menus.Menu has items like "resume/pause/zoom/" .
All action to be take on selecting these menus are implemented in "View_Y" in a separate Gamethread by extending "Thread" class.
So whenever a menu is selected in "Activity_X" i need to send a message to "View_Y". And on receiving this ,a particular action/method should be called in View_Y(GameThread).
How can i achieve this using Handlers? Is there any other way of doing this? Please do share with me some code snippets for these.

I want to do the drawing in another thread to speed up the game(it is way to slow right now). I was told to do this but don't quite understand why that would speed things up. Is it GameView that should implement Runnable? Should I make the thread sleep when not drawing? where should I start the thread? package com.android.WWS;

I have an activity that loads and displays images from the SDCard. I create a new AVD, specify the desired image of the sd card (which has all my pictures already loaded), specify that AVD for deployment, and start the application. I noticed a strange behavior. At first, the images are not loaded; the getView method is never called, although the constructor of my adapter is called. If I close the application, and open the Gallery app that comes pre-installed, I see that the sd card folder has the correct number of images, and it 'displays' the first four. If I start my application again, those four images are displayed, and only those. If I go back to the Gallery application, open the sd card folder so that it loads all images, and restart my application, all images are successfully displayed. Any reason why this happens? I am using version 1.6, and (part of) my code is below: Code...

I have an Android application that works off of a smaller database, around 300 entries. To view the database, I have created a custom view that contains individual rows of data. Then I query the database, and add each line to a newly created custom view.
The problem is that it takes a little white for all of this to be created/loaded, so when you open the application, it sits for a few seconds.
How can I load one line of data, then display it, then the next, append it, etc.?

I've recently started working with the SoundPool class in SDK 1.1R1, and noticed that my app deadlocks from time to time, or sounds are not loaded. I remember reading, back in November, that this was to be addressed in the next SDK. I've used pretty much the same code that others have used and most of the time it works for a bit. Just a minute ago, the app completely crashed with no "Force Close" and returned to the home screen. Logcat reveals that "HeapWorker is wedged: 26577ms spent inside Landroid/media/SoundPool;.finalize()V" I'm not sure if this is the same issue others had with SoundPool or if I have encountered an entirely new beast.
