My Helloworld tutorial sample builds and runs just fine, except it doesn't show the text (i.e. loads apps). Android :: How To Load Hello World App Onto My Phone?

I made an Android Hello world app and I'm trying to load it onto my HTC Incredible. I believe it has 2.2 (how do I confirm that?)Anyway, Eclipse gives me this message and then brings up the window in the screenshot below. Automatic Target Mode: Unable to detect device compatibility. Please select a target device. I'm on Ubuntu 64bit if that matters. I did turn on USB debugging on the phone. I told the phone to connect as a disk drive.Any ideas how to get my app onto the phone?Update: Do I need to perform these steps since I'm on Ubuntu? I doesn't mention what to do for Ubuntu 8.10 though.

Android :: Digital World Clock?

Apr 6, 2010

I'm looking for a small world clock digital clock widget that I can put on my home screen that would take 1-2 icon slots. In particular, it needs to be a world clock (ie: not the normal time on your phone, configurable to some other time), it needs to be a digital clock, and it would help if it supported military time format. I'd also like it to be smallish, in that it takes no more than 2 icon slots on my screen. I have a Milestone and for some ungodly reason we have all this empty space around icons in a 4x4 screen. Any help would be appreciated. The world clock on my phone is a regular dial-style analog clock, looks like it takes 2x2 icon slots, and is difficult to read. Plus, being analog, there's no way to tell AM/PM.

It seems that clock apps are either clock/alarm or world clock only, not combining the functionality.

Android :: Hello World Button Display Random Number

Apr 16, 2010

Brand new to droid programming, but would love to learn as much as possible, so I finally got my emulator working correctly, I even got a hello world button to work. I'm attempting to make this button display a random number, I've googled this and came up with this code:

Random generator = new Random();
int n = generator.nextInt(n);

I fixed the Random function by including some Random java utility. I'm assuming this code above goes in the .java file of the project, so my button code looks as follows (tested and works):

PopUpText.makeText(v.getContext(), "Hello World",
PopUpText.LENGTH_LONG).show();

I figured I could replace "Hello World" with n to display the number in the box, however the following error is stopping the compile:
The local variable n may not have been initialized

We have looked through dip and other android native elements but these don't work as well for a larger scale on game development.

Android :: Images Are Not Loaded From SDCard

Oct 16, 2009

I have an activity that loads and displays images from the SDCard. I create a new AVD, specify the desired image of the sd card (which has all my pictures already loaded), specify that AVD for deployment, and start the application. I noticed a strange behavior. At first, the images are not loaded; the getView method is never called, although the constructor of my adapter is called. If I close the application, and open the Gallery app that comes pre-installed, I see that the sd card folder has the correct number of images, and it 'displays' the first four. If I start my application again, those four images are displayed, and only those. If I go back to the Gallery application, open the sd card folder so that it loads all images, and restart my application, all images are successfully displayed. Any reason why this happens? I am using version 1.6, and (part of) my code is below: Code...

Android :: How To Display Each View Once As They Are Loaded

Apr 6, 2010

I have an Android application that works off of a smaller database, around 300 entries. To view the database, I have created a custom view that contains individual rows of data. Then I query the database, and add each line to a newly created custom view.

The problem is that it takes a little white for all of this to be created/loaded, so when you open the application, it sits for a few seconds.

How can I load one line of data, then display it, then the next, append it, etc.?

Android :: Web Image Loaded By Thread

and the image is getting loaded this way:

CODE:.................

Now, the problem I'm having is that if there are more items that need to display the same picture, not all of those pictures get displayed. When you scroll up and down the list maybe you end up filling all of them.

When I tried the commented out line (holder.avatar.setImageBitmap...) the app sometimes force closes with "only the thread that created the view can request...". But only sometimes.
