Android :: Image Won't Fit Screen / How To Do
Mar 25, 2010
I have a 320x480 image which I`d like to fit the whole screen. This is the main.xml code...
The screen shows the image but there is a considerable padding to the left and to the right, and a little bit to the top and to the bottom. I have tried setting android:padding to 0dip with no result.
Link to image, I can`t post images yet: screenshot

I use http://stackoverflow.com/questions/541966/android-how-do-i-do-a-lazy-load-of-images-in-listview/3068012#3068012 to load images in a ListView and a GridView. It works but the images are loaded form bpttom to top. How to fix that?
Bonus Question: Can I use a loading animation in a image view while the real image is loaded? Right now it's just a default image.

I'm just getting started with android programming, and want to see if there is a way to programmatically set the lock screen image. I've found various ways of setting the wallpaper in the API, but I can't seem to find the equivalent ways of setting the lock screen image.
I've seen various posts saying that customising the lock screen by adding widgets or bits of applications is not possible, but surely there must be a way to set the image programmatically?

I can't seem to rotate properly an image on the entire screen. The problem is that when the image rotates, you can see the background in some areas. I want the image to fill the screen also when it rotates. Here is the layout.I start the animation in onResume. As I said, the image rotates but there are background areas when it does rotate. I've tried using images much bigger than the screen but still it doesn't do what I want. I don't care that outer regions of the image are not visible. I just want the rotation to fill the screen. I guess ImageView sets its width and height initially and then, when it rotates, it uses those dimensions. Is there a better way to do this?

I want to download an image (of unknown size, but which is always roughly square) and display it so that it fills the screen horizontally, and stretches vertically to maintain the aspect ratio of the image, on any screen size. Here is my (non-working) code. It stretches the image horizontally, but not vertically, so it is squashed. Code...

I am trying to display an image from a URL, which may be larger than the screen dimensions. I have it kind of working, but I would like it to scale to fit the screen, and I also have problems when the screen orientation changes. The image is tiny, and I would like it to scale its width to the screen as well. (In both cases, I would like the image to fill the screen width with scrollbars (if necessary for height).
Here is my ImageView:
CODE:..............
Here is the java code which loads the image: (some error handling code removed for simplicity)
CODE:.........
I have tried different settings for android:scaleType. I'm sorry if this question has been asked before. I've gone through a number of tutorials on the subject, but they don't seem to work for me. Not sure if it has anything to do with the way the image is loaded. (from the web instead of a local resource)
Another issue is that sometimes the image doesn't even load. There are no runtime errors, I just get nothing in the ImageView.

I my design (as an example), I would have two text fields defined in my relative layout followed by an image and I would like the image to span the remainder of the screen.
Here is what I have so far:
CODE:..........
How do I tell my ImageView to span fill the remainder of the screen. If I define the height and width as "fill_parent" it fills over the two text views.

All thing is good ,i can see live-cam but, to fit image in screen like " Bitmap.createScaledBitmap(orgBitmap, width, height / 2 , true)" Seeing bitmap is getting slow , the bigger bitmap is , the more speed down finally, shut-downed.

I am trying to develop an app for which I want multiple screen support. I have read the Android article on Best practices for Multiple Screen Support. As per the article we have to follow 3 important things:
1. Mention support for different screen sizes (large, medium and small) and any density in AndroidManifest.xml.
2. Place images of 3 dpi's (120, 160, 240) in 3 folders res/ldpi, res/ mdpi and res/hdpi.
3. In layout's the dimension should be mentioned in "dip" units. Then Android will take care of the scaling on its own.
I have implemented all these points in my project. The images are picked up correctly from the appropriate folders. But the arrangements of the controls in not same. e.g. I ran the app on three emulators 1. Resolution 240*320 dpi 120. 2. Resolution 240*320 dpi 160. 3. Resolution 240*320 dpi 240. (All the emulator have same resolution but different density). The problem is the position of the controls is not same on all the three emulator. As per my understanding if the android:layout_marginLeft and android:layout_marginTop are mentioned in "dip" then this problem should not occur. As the density of the emulator increases the controls get placed more towards the right. Is it necessary that I provide layouts for all combinations of dimensions and density i.e. in layout-small, layout-large, layout- medium, layout-long,layout-notlong?

I've read the Android documentation:
http://developer.android.com/guide/practices/screens_support.html
but still have some questions. I'm trying to design a music application which basically has images of the instrument (ImageButton) that play a sound when clicked. However, I'm confused about how to have the ImageButtons scale to fit all the different screen sizes and how to position them.
Which layout is best used for needing to position ImageButtons in specific locations on the screen? (i.e. cymbals on a drum set) FrameLayout, RelativeLayout? If I only really care about medium and large screens, do I need to create different resources (images) for both as well as a different XML layout to position them? I'm trying to find the simplest way to do this without having to create a separate layout XML file for positioning/size and separate image resources for each screen.

What is the proper way of sizing the dimensions of an image in a hdpi screen vs a ldpi screen.
For instance, an 89*80 png displays fine, with the text, on my droid 2....but how should I go about resizing the image to be smaller on a smaller screened droid? Do I manually alter the image and place it in the ldpi folder or will it do that automatically?

I have seen a lot of posts about this, and it seems like the code below should work. I have created an SD Card image and added it to the emulator (and that works fine).
Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_PICK);
intent.setType("image/*");
//intent.setAction(Intent.ACTION_GET_CONTENT);
startActivityForResult(intent, 1);
It does launch and allow selection of images, but when I click on an image, everything exits and the emulator returns to the home screen, not back to my app. My onActivityResult is never called either. What am I missing?

I know how to display an image that is bigger than the screen. That's fairly simple and explained in details here, however, this method makes you able to scroll as far as you want, event if you have left the image and you just have black screen. I would like to know how we can make the scrolling stop when we reach the side of the picture...

I have an image on a private file.
I read the file, create the drawable, and assign it to an ImageView.
The ImageView has WRAP_CONTENT so the size is automatic.
On 320x480 screens, the image looks good
But on screens with more resolution and high density 480x800 or 480x854 (N1, droid) , when the image is for example 150x150, I see the image as 100x100.
Of course it has something to do with the density but not sure how should I resolve this.
This is my code...
if I then inspect the size of the icon, android thinks the size is 100x100, when really is 150x150.
Looks like its reducing the image by the density.
Can anybody explain this and how to avoid this.

I have a widget on my home screen with several ImageButtons which have default background images. Through the configuration activity, I can change the image on any of the ImageButtons. The problem is that when the screen is rotated, the image on the ImageButton disapears and it changes back to the default image.
I don't know why this happens or how to fix it
