Android :: If Have Unlimited Calling Set Up On Android Phone - Do Not Upgrade Google Voice

Google Voice Blog: Faster dialing with Google Voice on Android and Blackberry devices
If you, like me, have your outbound Google Voice access number set as one of your "Family and Friends", you'll find that all outbound calls are currently free (since Verizon sees them as going through the outbound number, regardless of who you actually call). However, this new method assigns a personal number to EACH contact.
So if your girlfriend or brother already had Verizon, and you didn't use Google Voice, it would be free calling.
But if you called them with the old Google Voice application, they would both appear on your bill as calls to your Google Voice access number. (So if you had that one number on your Friends and Family line, you could call both of them -- and anyone else -- without using any minutes.)
HOWEVER, if you upgraded, your brother essentially has 1 non-Verizon number, and your girlfriend has another non-Verizon number, so even though they're both Verizon users, you're going to get screwed over with minute usage.
Keep an eye out for these things! Google either needs to work with Verizon (and AT&T, etc.) to fix this gap, or they need to keep it an option to use a single outbound access number. I know I won't be upgrading my Google Voice app until they fix this.

I have google voice set up to make all calls. But whenever I call out, I call out using the phone's number, and not my google voice number. I've tried looking through all the settings on both the app and the desktop version and have not found anything that works. I still get my SMS through the app, so the service is working. I just can't get it to call out using my google voice number, and this was automatic on my incredible

I like how the Google Voice looks when making calls. Is there any way to make it look like this all of the time, not just using Google Voice?

Is it just me but I can no longer call out using GV - I set it - but it doesn't seem to actually work; the receiving party sees the call as coming from my regular cell #

Is anyone else interested in how Google voice will affect calling minutes? If you currently have your GV number set to call your Sprint cell and your incoming call is from another cell phone will you be charged for the minutes? If you setup your phone so GV is used to call all numbers that you dial will you be charged for calling other cellular number because GV masks the number? I have been through every level of support that Sprint offers and no one can answer me. Sadly tier 3 technical support told me "Google Voice is useless on a cell phone and you would not want to use this anyway". I had nothing more to say after that!

I finally changed the voicemail system on my Hero from Sprint's "visual voicemail" (which is misleading because it doesn't transcribe voicemails) to Google Voice. It's nice to see my transcribed voicemails now. However, when I actually want to hear them (if the transcription didn't work well), it only comes through the external speaker; the speaker on the back of the phone. I went into Google Voice settings and under "Voicemail Playback" I tried the only two options: "Play via Handset" and "Play via Speaker." Unfortunately, both play through the speaker phone speaker. How do I change it to the phone speaker? I also can't adjust the volume, so the whole world hears my voicemails through the external speaker.

I just got done setting up my wife's new phone and my new phone (HTC Aria). I have google voice numbers for both, and setup google voice apps on each phone. I set the settings to "use google voice for all outgoing calls". On my phone, so far, all of my outgoing calls have used google voice. However, for my wife's phone, some calls use google voice and some calls don't.

I've decided to ditch my plan and use an Android phone with only google voice (since I'll have wifi almost all the time). I've done some research into it and I've read that it's possible (any good guides you can recommend would be very helpful though). Anyway, my main question here is: what phone should I get (and where to get it with no contract)? I'm looking to spend maybe 300 (perhaps more if it's worth it) for a phone to last me at least the next 2-3 years.

Is there a way to use Google Voice for Android without it taking OVER the whole phones voice mail system? I want to use Google Voice as a second phone number I can give out to people I don't want to know my REAL number. Problem is, when I set it up, it takes over my phones own voice mail which I dont want it to do. I want to have my cell number go to my normal Sprint Voice mail and my GVoice number go to my GVoice voice mail account.
I still want to be notified on my phone in real time that someone is calling etc. What options do I have? How do I set this up? My friend says I can do what I'm asking but he never seems to have time to show me. I know he uses it too though.

I just tried one of the phone locater apps (Lost Phone) and it did not work with texting through Google Voice. Can I assume that all such apps will not work texting with GV? I do not have a texting plan and I instructed my carrier to block any SMS. I us GV for all my text messaging. I'm assuming that texts coming through GV don't have the same system level capabilities that these apps need?

I set up Google Voice on my Sprint Hero and I'm not all that happy with it. The main problem is it takes roughly 3 hours from the time the person left the voicemail until I receive it on my phone. That's just way too long. And I'm not talking just the transcription, I mean even getting the voicemail. Does anyone else have this problem? Is it a Sprint problem, a Hero problem, or a Google Voice problem?

The front speaker on my phone has stopped working entirely, so Verizon is sending me a new phone. I had downloaded Shazam prior to July 13th, so I have unlimited tagging. Am I right in that this means I will lose it since I have to install the app again? Not sure how an app is tied to the phone....

Google's One-Button Voice Actions For Android 2.2 You have to search for it in the market but it upgrades your voice search to one that recognizes actions within the statement. You can use now just use the maginfying glass to do everything. Send texts, initiate navigation, play music, set alarms and call.

I saw a commercial today for the Xperia X10 on Rogers, which said it included "Unlimited Social Networking". Just wondering if anyone, like me bought the phone in April, and knows if this is included in their Voice + Data plan? I'm currently on the $50 Voice and Data, and http://www.rogers.com/web/content/social-networking shows that its pre-bundled in the 3 plans.
Or if this is something we have to contact them to add, or worse, something we missed out on because we bought the phone too early for their liking.

Was having the exact problem described in this link trying to get my Google Voice account setup with the Google Voice App on my Incredible. Been trying, failing, and searching for days. Stumbled on this today and it fixed me right up. Android Google voice app will not verify phone (used to work on previous Android phone) - Google Voice Help
The answer from from "mbligh" is: "I fixed this. I think it's Google's "interesting" login management, where though you have one email address, it can be multiple accounts on the backend. If you're foo@bar.com and it asks you which account you want to use and that's one of the options, pick "other address" and type foo@bar.com again and your password. Now it works. Makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, but still."

how google voice application is taking control of the default phone native dialer? Is it using the public android API? I saw how google voice display a bubble at top and mask the dialed out number in the native dialer. We need to do something like this in our application but I can't find nothing about how to do it. Please google guys give me a tip about if it's native code or public api.

I've just received android 2.2 on the desire and like many wanted to use the new voice dialing!!! The only widget I can find is "voice search" but this seems to not be dialing specific and may choose to search the web for you etc. My question: Is there a dialing specific voice command widget, if not how do I do it properly?
I have a parrot bluetooth kit which usually prompts a phone to ask for a voice command. The desire although linked, doesn't seem to respond.

You get the number from Google voice and obviously you can make calls. Why can't you just cancel your voice and text plan and just keep your data package and use it like that? Will T-Mobile allow that?

I am joining the Captivate crowd. Currently browsing deals (frustratingly, most won't allow me to choose the small plan I require).
I read a few places that you can't use voice command/control when the phone is on bluetooth. Has there been any change to this since it was first released?
My car stereo is equipped to use a phone via bluetooth, with a microphone mounted by the rear view mirror. I live for this at times, but voice dialing would be 10x more helpful than scrolling through contacts on the stereo screen.
Also, I'd love to know if you can legitimately get visual voicemail without paying a monthly fee? At least for now, I want to keep the phone legit and not mess with warranty, etc.
I'm obviously asking for a brand new phone - as of right now, not "well, when it was released x, y, z" as I think sometimes things change quickly with phones.

I am an iPhone user seriously considering switching to the Incredible as the Android platform has matured and I am sick of Apple's "Walled Garden". My one big question is actually a Sense UI question. If I enable Google Voice to "take over" phone calls on the phone (this is possible, correct? It could be done on the Motorola Droid). Will the HTC Phone app that is launched from the phone button at the bottom of the home screen use Google Voice to make my calls, or will I have to launch the Google Voice app to get that functionality (logging calls, correct number on caller ID, etc)?

I signed up with google voice through my university email and i can access it on my pc and what not, it says have a google number and when i call it i can get my voice mail, and i get transcribed voicemails and what not. however, when i downloaded the app from the market and and to activate it under 'voice' settings i get to the step where i enter my pin and the it says 'Your phone number could not be verified. Please try again later' what gives?i have tried over a week or so and it still gives me the same message. i read that if you chose the 'different' account option and type in your email that will work but when i do that it says my password is wrong. also, when i hold down the '1' on my phone it takes me to my Verizon voice mail, i though i was using google voice? i must say this is a very confusing service so far.

After updating to 2.1 on my X10, I noticed that I cannot use Google Voice to make phone calls (either selecting "use Google Voice for all calls" or "use Google Voice for international phones). It seems that the issue has to do with the SE dialer. Is there a way to go to the stock generic Android dialer? If not, any other suggestions?
