You get the number from Google voice and obviously you can make calls. Why can't you just cancel your voice and text plan and just keep your data package and use it like that? Will T-Mobile allow that?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI finally changed the voicemail system on my Hero from Sprint's "visual voicemail" (which is misleading because it doesn't transcribe voicemails) to Google Voice. It's nice to see my transcribed voicemails now. However, when I actually want to hear them (if the transcription didn't work well), it only comes through the external speaker; the speaker on the back of the phone. I went into Google Voice settings and under "Voicemail Playback" I tried the only two options: "Play via Handset" and "Play via Speaker." Unfortunately, both play through the speaker phone speaker. How do I change it to the phone speaker? I also can't adjust the volume, so the whole world hears my voicemails through the external speaker.

This works when I am not answering the phone and I the caller gets connected to my GV account. But when my phone is not in coverage the caller gets my version voice mail. Appreciate if someone can correct my settings or suggest any app that does it. I am from Windows mobile world and missing those settings when you can define several settings for voice mail (unanswered, rejected, unavailable etc...)

But he was asking what about the people who already text him at his regular number. So I was wondering can you get Google Voice to redirect texts to your regular number to your Google Voice number so it would be free. Is that possible? Or would he have to give out his Google Voice number to everyone?

As far as I know, when you install GV you signup and then get a #, from there I give that # to everyone to text me (not my cell phone #) and GV just stays on in the back ground all the time waiting for texts?
And, does this use the data connection to do all of this or use the phone miniutes?
How do I disable the Text transcript feature on Google voice? It's always wrong..such a horribly done feature. Annoying to see all these incorrect text transcripts after each voice mail.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been using Google Voice on my Env Touch for about a year now but only mainly for the sms transcriptions as the Env Touch doesn't have an app for it.
So, here's my main problem. All of my contacts are just in my phone. I don't have anyone's email address as all I do mainly is txt people or send them a message on facebook. I'm wanting to add all of my contacts to my gmail account so when I get my Incredible everything will be there. Right now my sms from GV just has the number and I actually don't know any of my friends numbers, they're just in my phone. *yes, technology can be a sort of burden at times* So I don't have a clue who the voicemail is from until I call into it. Is there any easy way of porting all these contacts from either my phone, backup assistant, or facebook? Also, do android phones take your contacts and your facebook and merge them into your gmail account?
I am using google voice to get visual voice mail, however it is using up my limited text messages.Is there a way I can avoid the visual voice mail from going to text and access them directly through my gmail?.As well as, my voice to text on google voice is usually unreadable is this normal?.

I had my number ported to Google Voice and have been using it to make and receive calls for the past two weeks. I was also using it for texts, or so I thought, but yesterday I found out (by looking at my friends phone), that after I sent him a text, my carrier's number was the one that showed up as the sender, instead of my Google Voice.
I thought Google Voice automatically used your Google Voice number for texts too? Am I doing something wrong in the middle?
I finally got GV visual voicemail working using my carrier number as my GV number. it took 2 days of frustration.now, from what I understand, i should be able to use GV to send text/SMS messages.is that true?when i launch GV app, i don't have any options to compose messages. how is that supposed to work?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem with Google Voice. When I get an incoming text, I don't get any notification for it. I have inbox notifications checked, but it doesn't happen until I manually open the GV inbox, or sometimes not until I open the inbox and the specific conversation the message was a part of. This is true, even 8 hours later. So if I don't check my GV inbox/conversations for 8 hours, the phone gives me no notification of a message. I know this is not normal because a month ago I was having no problem with this. Could it be that I started using ADW Launcher a couple weeks ago? I haven't heard of any issues with this caused by ADW before Another thing I've experienced weird is the Gmail app. This morning I received 2 e-mails at about 7 and 8 a.m., though again I got no notification in the status bar and I had no idea I'd received the e-mails until I manually checked the Gmail app, even though notifications are enabled. This hasn't been a problem until a couple days ago. Thirdly, sometimes a friend will text my GV number and it will send to make phone's message inbox, not to GV. This only happens with one contact, and even then not all the time. My friend says he sends all of the texts to the same number, but I suspect he has my old number still in his phonebook and sometimes he just selects the wrong number, so I don't suspect it to be related, but this issue started happening at the same time as the other notification issues, so I thought I should include it.I would be very grateful for any help/advice you guys could provide!

View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to be on GV 100% (voice, txt, whatever else GV provides) the problem wiht this so far is that i get duplicate text messages - which is annoying the reason for my frustration as i see it is that GV is not as integrated into the phone the same way voice calls are - when you dial out, it goes out through my GV number, not my number from my carrier now, i could send a txt to someone using google's GV widget, but the problem with that is i lose the ability to click on the Messages button in the contact's info page (see pg 36 in the manual) and see my entire text history with that client bummer however, as a result of this whole stock-message-app-draining-the-battery "thing" i've jumped onboard the handcent bandwagon turns out, handcent stores its messages in the phones database/memory/whatever so that the text history is retained and accessible via that Messages button in the contact info page! nice! now.. if only you could send OUT to GV's system through these 3rd party messaging apps (thus avoiding GVs app and its inability to save/store txt msg history in the contacts page), we would be set!
Well, today i learned that when a person sends you a txt through the GV service (ie - they send you a text to your GV number), it appears to you as a 406 area code (see here - read TuXian's post) and furthermore, you can save that number in the contact's info page and send to that person using that number its not "perfect" because its not "seamless" -- the end user has to THINK - and DO SOMETHING for this system to work which is okay for us "techies" and "enthusiasts" - but for the general public, that's not gonna cut it but it seems to work at this point either HTC needs to improve teh Sense UI to incorporate content generated in the GV widget/app, or google needs to store its data in the Hero's file structure.... but this is definitely "kludgy" and they will need to a better job if they expect to rival apple and the iphone in a meaningful and significant way (ok, where did that little rant come from!)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm sure its been discussed and all but I think that the voice recognition software is capable of being much more advanced.There should be a way to just give your phone a voice command without having to manually open an app. It probably would have to be running in the background the whole time, analyzing everything it hears, so it may use a lot of battery and cpu.therefore it may be easier to have a starter phrase to tell it to listen more carefully. for example: say the said app is running in the background,listening to every noise, but it wouldn't begin to really analyize until you say something like; "hey, phone!" or "yo, droid!" (or whatever tag phrase). I don't know what would have to go into an app like that for it to work but hey, if an app like that was designed, then I think the android would be a really smart smartphone. In the end thanks for all the awesome apps you guys are already developing. be sure to tell me when someone develops something like that though.

I saw that the eris comes with a voice recorder, but i recorded a message and was not able to send it.

Also, when sending pictures via MMS, it always resizes them and obviously the person receiving doesn't get the same quality. I realize that sending via Gmail doesn't resize, but i send to other cell phones a lot.
I'm thinking the only fix is lowering the camera resolution? I think that lowering the resolution is still better than having it resized for the message. Has anyone tried lowering the resolution to a point that the picture does not need to be resized for MMS?
Same thing for Video messages.. can't even send them. Not sure if it's HAndcent, or the file is just to big

VR matches this against a specific valid vocabulary containing only "yes & no", and then returns "no". Can you do this yet? Last time I looked you could not. The VR would match against a full vocabulary and user saying "no" would come back with things like "snow" and so on.The other BIG problem was that if the VR got no match a "Retry" dialog was displayed, this needed to be dismissed by using the screen, which meant the the voice control process failed at this point, terminally.
