I have noticed a few minor things in the devguide that could be updated, debugging and android device on Jaunty Jackalope for instance. Is there a manner to submit recommendations to these pages?

I am not allowed to post more than one hyperlink. But Amazon carries this book as well. I am picking these two books because of another popular thread saying I should have an Android book and a java reference but no one mentioned a book for either. I figured I'd go with the highest rated in for each of those criteria.I didn't know if I could ask a question in the same thread about what books so I figured it was better to start a new one. I am ready to spend some amount on android paid tutorials also if they are worth a look. Please suggest me some study material along with some android paid tutorials, i want the best tutorial since i have many apps in mind to develop :) I have had a look at all the free tutorials and i know how to do some simple stuff like calling an intent, making the layout file, media controller. But i dont have knowledge about the major issues like database connectivity, flinge, adapters, geolocation and stuff. Hence the bottom line.

How do you handle this?Are there some empirical values, for example, do applications that run smoothly on a HTC Desire behave similar on all HTC devices? Are there some devices on which the app should definately be checked?I like to picture myself releasing a high quality product instead of throwing some crap on the market. :) But I suppose I am not the only one who cannot buy like 5 or more devices just to ensure that the apps works fine on every kind of device.

Instead there are suggestions that you should add Views on top/below the View you want borders on and a bunch of others really messy ways to get borders.oming from the .NET-environment that is pretty brutal to have to do ugly workaround and "hacks" to get something as simple as borders.Thus, I want to suggest that feature to the Android team. Im not sure how they can have missed it, but it is surely missed, So, is there any official way to suggest a feature in the SDK/framework? I have looked around a bit, but cant comment on their blogs, no e-mail addresses as far as I can see.

View 1 Replies View RelatedFirst of all I'd like to point out that I have posted this in the HTC Desire section because I'm not sure whether my problem is Android or HTC Sense related.I have linked my contacts to their facebook profiles so I can see thier pictures awesome.Except that whenever I compose a new text message and click on the people icon, I get a list of every single one of my facebook friends, and multiple entries for each - one for email, phone etc.Except obviously I only want to text one of the people in my contacts, but keep slecting someone's email address that they've listed on facebook, or the wrong person who shares the same first name. This is highly frustrating - random people appearing in my message recipients list is something I have never had to deal with before in my 10 years as a mobile phone user.

I am just wondering if the auto-suggest dictionary is user-modifiable. I use compact QWERTY (like SureType on BB). When I type "we", what comes out is "qe" which is the default word it wants to use. Perhaps I used it once and saved it? How can I delete the words I don't want popping up anymore (especially the ones I may have added)?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been using the Android documentation for a few days now, and it is quite good and easy to read. Apart from that I noticed that I missed something, and now I found out what it is: Examples and comments.
If you look at the PHP documentation (e.g. http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.substr.php for the PHP substr() function) you will see many syntax-highlighted examples and comments by users.
Of course there are examples in the Android documentation, especially in the Dev Guide category - they just are not at the right place if one searches the reference for a specific method or functionality. What do you think about this?
I just finished what I hope is the ultimate guide to emulation on Android. I've basically fine-combed the Market and done my best to map out what the Android platform currently has to offer when it comes to retro video game console and home computer emulation. Various Nintendo consoles are covered, of course, as well as Sega, C64, Amiga, ZX Spectrum, TurboGrafx-16 et cetera.
The only emulators I've ignored are those with an average rating below 3. Now to my question: did I miss any good emulators? There might be emulator projects for Android on the web that are not available on the Market? Such as ScummVM, for example, although technically it might not qualify as an emulator. Is there a PlayStation emulator for Android?

I have a weird problem with the hitchhikers guide soundboard app on the market. I have a non rooted HTC Magic (running 1.6 donut) and live in New Zealand. I was able to install an early version of it (1.2) I think. So the app would appear in the "My Downloads" section.In the description of the app, I could then see the app was getting upgraded frequently. But I never got any notification to upgrade. When I then searched for the app, it no longer appeared for me in the market.Its like somehow its been geo restricted, or perhaps no longer compatible with my phone, so it had disappeared for me to download/upgrade. I can even goto the authors website & try installing the app independent of the market, but even then a dialog box pops up saying "Cannot install on this phone".I can see other people are downloading and using it, but am wondering if other people are having any issues finding & installing the app? I checked to see what has been using all my memory and was surprised to see the TV Guide app running. I closed it and my phone ran great again. Checked the battery usage to see it used almost 5% of my battery. The one problem? I NEVER EVEN USED IT YET. Anyone else have a similar issue with this app on the Droid?
