I want to develop an android application, but i don't want to use the default controls(buttons, checkboxes, radio buttons, etc.,). Is there any way to customize those controls to make it appear nicer. If so some tutorial or guide.

I have developed a google map app and the zoom controls will not appear automatically and will disappear after they are used.So I want to see the zoom controls (_ , +) to appear with the map permanently.

I also ran across this : Stack Overflow thread on pretty much same thing I followed one of the links from that question, and found this Pretty much, it said use a selector defined in the xml, sure, did that. But there is no id associated w/ it so I am not sure how to get the selector function as a drawable so I can use it as the icon for the tabs. Maybe I am going about this the wrong way.. But this is what I have, and obviously missing something.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been using the Android documentation for a few days now, and it is quite good and easy to read. Apart from that I noticed that I missed something, and now I found out what it is: Examples and comments.
If you look at the PHP documentation (e.g. http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.substr.php for the PHP substr() function) you will see many syntax-highlighted examples and comments by users.
Of course there are examples in the Android documentation, especially in the Dev Guide category - they just are not at the right place if one searches the reference for a specific method or functionality. What do you think about this?
I just finished what I hope is the ultimate guide to emulation on Android. I've basically fine-combed the Market and done my best to map out what the Android platform currently has to offer when it comes to retro video game console and home computer emulation. Various Nintendo consoles are covered, of course, as well as Sega, C64, Amiga, ZX Spectrum, TurboGrafx-16 et cetera.
The only emulators I've ignored are those with an average rating below 3. Now to my question: did I miss any good emulators? There might be emulator projects for Android on the web that are not available on the Market? Such as ScummVM, for example, although technically it might not qualify as an emulator. Is there a PlayStation emulator for Android?

I have a weird problem with the hitchhikers guide soundboard app on the market. I have a non rooted HTC Magic (running 1.6 donut) and live in New Zealand. I was able to install an early version of it (1.2) I think. So the app would appear in the "My Downloads" section.In the description of the app, I could then see the app was getting upgraded frequently. But I never got any notification to upgrade. When I then searched for the app, it no longer appeared for me in the market.Its like somehow its been geo restricted, or perhaps no longer compatible with my phone, so it had disappeared for me to download/upgrade. I can even goto the authors website & try installing the app independent of the market, but even then a dialog box pops up saying "Cannot install on this phone".I can see other people are downloading and using it, but am wondering if other people are having any issues finding & installing the app? I checked to see what has been using all my memory and was surprised to see the TV Guide app running. I closed it and my phone ran great again. Checked the battery usage to see it used almost 5% of my battery. The one problem? I NEVER EVEN USED IT YET. Anyone else have a similar issue with this app on the Droid?

It mostly used multiple sliders that went from left (quiet) to right (louder). I did a search here, but none of the returns rang a bell (pun intended). View 1 Replies View RelatedOne thing I do like about the iphone/ipod touch is that you set the home button to double tap and have that bring up the music controls. really basic, just brings up pause/play, forward, and back...and volume. I really miss that since I'm trying to use my Droid as my main music player now, but I hate that I have to click a widget or go to notifications to change the music. Especially when I'm driving, its would be so much easier if the controls popped up above the lock screen so i don't have to unlock every time. Any thoughts?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAt the moment the LEDs that light up the keyboard of the G1 (HTC Dream) are very quick to turn off, I time it at six seconds. This is a pain when using the phone in the dark as you must press a button in order to turn the lights back on if you look away even for a very short time. Since my G1 is rooted I have access to the system files and when using adb to open a shell (adb shell) to the USB connected phone I can set the brightness file to a positive value using echo 1 > /sys/class/leds/keyboard-backlight/brightness. This keeps the keyboard on, until the screen is set to turn off (two minutes on my phone). When I attempt the same using a Terminal Emulator or writing a simple app which should execute the same it does nothing despite both having root access. Why is this?
