Android :: How To Send A Ctrl Sequence With Keyboard?
Jan 29, 2010
Specifically in the connect bot app. I'm trying to SSH into a machine and use nano to do some simple editing. The key to save a file in nano is Ctrl+O, but I cannot figure out how to send this. I searched and found that some apps use the search or menu buttons for ctrl but this didn't work for me. How can I send Ctrl in connect bot?

I run my app in the AVD emulator using eclipse but I'm unable to change the screen orientation in the AVD (Android 2.0 platform on the emulator).When I press CONTROL+F11 or CONTROL+F12 on the keyboard, nothing happens. No messages are generated in the adb debuglog/logcat either when I press either hotkey.
According to http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/tools/emulator.html these are the correct hotkeys to switch the emulator's screen orientation. I tried it with my app, and with the messaging app. The hotkey has no affect in any case. I'm running Fedora 12, Gnome. I checked my Keyboard Shortcuts in the System -> Preferences menu, nothing's attached to either hotkey.

Sorry if there are is an answer for this already. Searching for "keyboard" and "tab" is a pretty big waste of time to sift through.
Is there a soft keyboard out that has alt, ctrl, tab, shift, and a pipe?
It would also need multitouch and/or some sticky keys option to be able to utilize them. (like being able to press ctrl+k)
I don't care about swype or any "super awesome" keyboard with gigantic keys. I'll deal with typos if it means I can keep my evo and still get around in shells remotely without having to carry around a bluetooth keyboard (whenever cyanogen or somebody gets BT HID working).
I don't care about auto correction. I don't care about text prediction. I don't care if you can put a Hello Kitty theme on it. I don't even care if you're forced to use a Hello Kitty them to use it. I just want a keyboard that works as a full keyboard.

You can send a text in landscape mode even though I have seen some post that say you can't. You can either hit the menu key or keyboard down button on the lower left key on the qwerty and you will see the send button. For all those who want to know.

I have developed seek bar component (I am showing while playing the song). If i seeks the bar the song is getting changed the position based on the seek bar change event, and playing fine. But if I leave the seek bar it is not moving based on the song sequence. I know we have to do something for that. Can any one tell me how to get the event for moving the seek bar based on the song sequence.

I would like to animate a view I have to appear like it was sliding off the screen to the left, and then sliding back to the screen from the right. I've set the duration of the first and the start Off set of the second as 1000, so the second should start right after the first ends. Instead I get their order reversed and I see my view sliding from right into the screen, and then sliding off the screen to the left. Reversing the animations order didn't do anything. Anyone got a clue why is this happening, and how can I do what I want?

Can anyone describe the logical sequence of implementing video recording facility? I've followed the steps as outlined from the diagram here: http://developer.android.com/reference/android/media/Media Recorder.html; and ended up with an out-of-memory exception.

GMail is almost unusable when composing a message - the Send and discard and Save buttons take up more room than you get space to type, resulting in just 3 or so lines of visible text. To make it worse, the typing font is massive.
Does anyone know how to...
1) Remove the stupid Send/Discard/Save buttons above the keyboard. Clicking the menu soft-key brings up those options anyway, meaning they literally are nothing but a waste of typing space
2) Change the font size, so we can see more text as we type. When reading a message, the font is much smaller and still very readable...
3) Change the keyboard to something shorter, gaining more room to see messages we composes
I got this phone to GMail with so this is pretty annoying.

My phone is the Droid X.
1. The main thing is that my texts won't send anymore when I turn my screen off or even exit out of the text message window. I have to keep my phone on and on that screen for at least 5 minutes until it finally sends. Before this, I could just text, send it, turn my screen off, and put it in my pocket and not worry about it sending. With my job and my life, I can't be doing this. I need a fix for this if possible.
2. This problem isn't as big as the other two but someone will send me one text and I will receive 2-6 times. I'll either receive all of them at once, or I will receive one text, and then 5 minutes later get it again, and then again 5 more minutes, and so on and so on. Now this can get very annoying when I am quickly texting and I keep getting texts like 15 times. I need a fix for this as well if possible.
3. One of the most annoying things about all this is my keyboard is not typing. I'll click on the "insert message here" box and start typing but the letters won't appear. The word suggestions will appear and whatnot acting like I am typing but it won't. My only temporary solution to this is exiting out and going back into the text but it doesn't seem to actually work as I am finding myself sitting there for about 10 minutes exiting and entering back into the texts over and over.

I was wondering in what order the following methods - on Draw(), on Measure(), on Size Changed() - are called automatically when we create a custom component. Not sure if this question makes sense. I've just been kinda confused as to what the methods are supposed to do exactly.

I've been quietly lurking around, enjoying my simple 2.2 leak Droid X. But, I've always known that eventually I want to root it and install ROMs and themes and whatnot. The problem is, I don't know the correct sequence of hacks/mods to get to my desired end product. I also don't know what the current best method is for accomplishing each part of the sequence. My desired end product would be something like a rooted Droid X with Vanilla Froyo and flyX and whatever other speed tweaks are available. I'd also like to keep my apps and settings that I have now, if that's possible. What I'm asking for is a simple list of things to do to get to that end product. I don't need the detail of how to do each one, I can figure that out myself (of course, if you want to provide links, that's be appreciated too).

When I am in a call on my Sprint HTC Hero, if I bring up the touch-keypad, hit the number 1 and then slide the keypad away, I get a message "Starting MMI sequence" and the call disconnects. The reason I discovered this is because I use Google Voice and I need to press 1 to accept a call or 2 to send it to voic email. But, when I press 1 and slide away the keypad, it disconnects. This does not happen when I press the actual keypad soft-button to get the keypad to disappear, it only happens when I swipe it down and away. It runs other MMI Sequences, depending on which key I press... (2 and 4 give me a dial tone to make another call, 3 gives me a popup that says "unable to conference calls", etc...) so is this a function of the phone (like a shortcut or something), or is it something that shouldn't be happening? Like I said, I don't think I've noticed it before the last day or so and I can't find anything about it in the manual or on any of the forums. Should pressing a button on the soft-keypad and swiping the keyboard away while in a call always run an "MMI Sequence"?

I'll try to make the Question CLEAR/SHORT/Strait forward...
Is there a file within the rooted Android system that can be edited to change the order of the application while booting up the device?
For example:
After you Flash the ROM, if you have installed Application "A" the Application "B" ..."C"...etc.
When the device is booting, some times you find that Application "C" is loaded before Application "A".
What i need is:
Application "A" to be always loaded FIRST then "C" then "B .......etc...
I tried to check "init.rc" and some others without success...

For the API (Android SDK API version 8) functions whose definitions list character sequence parameters, I can feed the function String instead. Best part is that they work the same way, no hassle, no warnings. Is there a difference between the two types? And more importantly, is there an inherent danger if I send the function a String instead of a character sequence?

For those of you that are familiar with better keyboard. I was wondering about an easy way to switch from the t9 keyboard to the regular qwerty keyboard. I was under the impression that swiping left would toggle between the 2 but all that does is bring me to the numbers and symbols keyboard. I've been changing back and forth to the android keyboard because its faster than going into the better keyboard settings.

I try to understand android boot sequence on my JB (under CM10). I found some docs and there should be specific partitions (boot, recovery, system, cache, data).
My understanding of the boot sequence is now:
A) normal boot:
1) Power ON ->
2) bootloader ->
3) boot-partition where i flashed the kernel aka boot.img ->
4a) system-partition with the OS (libs, UI, etc) where i unpacked over CWM my customROM.zip ->
4b) data-partition, where i unpacked google-apps.zip and installed all the apps ->
4c) cache-partition with user data
B) recovery boot (adb reboot recovery):
1) Power ON ->
2) bootloader ->
3) recovery-partition with CWM where i may unpack all the .zip stuff to proper partitions, or restore from sdcard, etc.
Is this correct? I wonder, because i didn't installed CWM into recovery-partition. It cames from install of CM10 (fastboot -i 0xfce flash boot boot.img), so it must be in boot-partition and not in recovery?
So, next confusion: i looked up to /proc/mtd and i don't see neither boot nor recovery partition here:
Quote:
# cat /proc/mtd
dev: size erasesize name
mtd0: 19000000 00040000 "system"
mtd1: 00600000 00040000 "appslog"
mtd2: 06580000 00040000 "cache"
mtd3: 1a400000 00040000 "userdata"
I did a backup with CWM and loocked the data. There aren't boot, and recovery backups:
Quote:
# ls -lha /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/2012-10-04.18.49.55/
d---rwxr-x 2 system sdcard_r 4.0K Oct 4 18:56 .
d---rwxr-x 3 system sdcard_r 4.0K Oct 4 18:49 ..
----rwxr-x 1 system sdcard_r 1.6K Oct 4 18:54 .android_secure.vfat.dup
----rwxr-x 1 system sdcard_r 54.6M Oct 4 18:55 cache.yaffs2.img
----rwxr-x 1 system sdcard_r 360.2M Oct 4 18:53 data.yaffs2.img
----rwxr-x 1 system sdcard_r 212 Oct 4 18:56 nandroid.md5
----rwxr-x 1 system sdcard_r 214.6M Oct 4 18:51 system.yaffs2.img
#
So, i think i didn't understand the boot sequence and partition schema corectly.
