General :: How To Arrange Application Load Order (sequence) While Booting

Jan 7, 2014

I'll try to make the Question CLEAR/SHORT/Strait forward...

Is there a file within the rooted Android system that can be edited to change the order of the application while booting up the device?

For example:

After you Flash the ROM, if you have installed Application "A" the Application "B" ..."C"...etc.

When the device is booting, some times you find that Application "C" is loaded before Application "A".

What i need is:

Application "A" to be always loaded FIRST then "C" then "B .......etc...

I tried to check "init.rc" and some others without success...

KitKat 4.4 :: Nexus 5 - How To Arrange Apps In Custom Order

Nov 24, 2013

just received my Nexus 5 a few days ago. I would like to know how can I arrange my apps in custom order in the app drawer, just so the more frequently used apps are on the first page. Also, is there any way to create folders in the app drawer? I really like the look of the kitkat launcher, so I am not sure if I want to go with a different launcher at this point. I tried googling before posting here, but couldn't find any solution specific for kitkat.

I recently bought the elusive Z1 compact- it's about time I found a phone that is sub-5 inch and a powerhouse. But anyways, I have never owned a phone with on screen buttons before (coming from Galaxy S series) and I was curious if the on screen buttons for "back", "home" , or "menu/app launcher" be re organized? A friend of mine has a LG g2 and they can reorganize theirs and I was wondering if that was an android feature or just LG. I would love to get my "back" button on the right side of the phone

Android :: New Application Listing Order In Market Search

Sep 24, 2010

Before today, when entering a search term into the Market app, the results at the top of the search would all be exact matches of that search term against the app name. For example, type "translate" and the user will see all the apps called "translate" before the "Google Translate" result (which is by far the most downloaded translate app). Now, this no longer happens. If you type "translate" the first result is "Google Translate" (and no preference is given to exact matches).

Note: posted on this forum partly because hardly anyone reads Android Discuss, and partly because developers need to know how their apps are being prioritized in app search results).

General :: Android Boot Sequence And Backup / Access To Boot / Recovery Partitions?

Oct 4, 2012

I try to understand android boot sequence on my JB (under CM10). I found some docs and there should be specific partitions (boot, recovery, system, cache, data).

My understanding of the boot sequence is now:

A) normal boot:
1) Power ON ->
2) bootloader ->
3) boot-partition where i flashed the kernel aka boot.img ->
4a) system-partition with the OS (libs, UI, etc) where i unpacked over CWM my customROM.zip ->
4b) data-partition, where i unpacked google-apps.zip and installed all the apps ->
4c) cache-partition with user data

B) recovery boot (adb reboot recovery):
1) Power ON ->
2) bootloader ->
3) recovery-partition with CWM where i may unpack all the .zip stuff to proper partitions, or restore from sdcard, etc.

Is this correct? I wonder, because i didn't installed CWM into recovery-partition. It cames from install of CM10 (fastboot -i 0xfce flash boot boot.img), so it must be in boot-partition and not in recovery?

So, next confusion: i looked up to /proc/mtd and i don't see neither boot nor recovery partition here:

Quote:

# cat /proc/mtd
dev: size erasesize name
mtd0: 19000000 00040000 "system"
mtd1: 00600000 00040000 "appslog"
mtd2: 06580000 00040000 "cache"
mtd3: 1a400000 00040000 "userdata"

I did a backup with CWM and loocked the data. There aren't boot, and recovery backups:

Quote:

# ls -lha /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/2012-10-04.18.49.55/
d---rwxr-x 2 system sdcard_r 4.0K Oct 4 18:56 .
d---rwxr-x 3 system sdcard_r 4.0K Oct 4 18:49 ..
----rwxr-x 1 system sdcard_r 1.6K Oct 4 18:54 .android_secure.vfat.dup
----rwxr-x 1 system sdcard_r 54.6M Oct 4 18:55 cache.yaffs2.img
----rwxr-x 1 system sdcard_r 360.2M Oct 4 18:53 data.yaffs2.img
----rwxr-x 1 system sdcard_r 212 Oct 4 18:56 nandroid.md5
----rwxr-x 1 system sdcard_r 214.6M Oct 4 18:51 system.yaffs2.img
#

So, i think i didn't understand the boot sequence and partition schema corectly.

General :: How To Interrupt Android Boot Sequence To Force It Boot To Linux Kernel Only

Sep 12, 2013

I am trying to do some low level performance testing related to device processor cores through adb which I feel it is affected by Android background services and system stuff.

As I know that the Android boot sequence stages are as follow:

1.Execute Boot ROM code.
2.Execute the boot loader.
3.Load the Linux kernel.
4.Launch Zygote, which initializes the Dalvik VM.
5.System server which loads the Android system.

So my question is how can I interrupt this sequence to force it stop on stage 3 to load Linux kernel. This can implement my intermediary performance testings before loading again Android system.

Does Fastboot or Clockworkmod recovery can load my device to a kind of Linux kernel?

Android :: Emulator Application Load / Start Time

Oct 6, 2010

I'm working with Eclipse and writing an Android application. I've noticed that the load times to the Android emulator can vary significantly. Recently, I found that manually going back to the main menu of the emulator helps my application load much faster.Is there a quicker way (read: automatic way) to exit out of my application rather than hitting the Back button multiple times until I get to the main app menu? Secondly, is there something I am doing wrong that factors into the longer load time?
