From the debug statements we found that Network provider does seems to launch MASF client , Would some one explain me the basic sequence of initialization of Network service provider ? and if MASF client is not getting initialized do we need to do some settings. What do i need to check .Any information on this is Highly appreciated.

Android :: Network Time Not Auto Updating With Some Service Provider?

Sep 9, 2010

I am facing problem in Froyo (Android 2.2), Network Time is not auto updating in date and time setting (using NITZ when Automatic option is enable) with some Service provider (Like BSNL and Reliance). but it's working fine with Vodaphone and Airtel. And i observe based on LOG statement that Unsoliciated Command UNSOL_NITZ_TIME_RECEIVED is not getting called at the time of Android system boot-up time with some Service Provider (like BSNL, Reliance) but it's getting called when i insert the Vodaphone and Airtel SIM card. but not able to figure out that How this UNSOL_NITZ_TIME_RECEIVED command has been triggered? If anybody have any idea please help me? Also i willing like to know where i have to made change, is it in Kernel level or Framework level?

Android :: Service Provider / Client

Oct 24, 2010

I am creating a service client and the following lines give me error. I was wondering how to fix these... // I have put in the service client stuff below...

private CheckZone mBoundService; private ServiceConnection mConnection = new ServiceConnection() { public void onServiceConnected(ComponentName CheckZone, IBinder service) { // This is called when the connection with the service has been // established, giving us the service object we can use to // interact with the service. Because we have bound to a explicit // service that we know is running in our own process, we can // cast its IBinder to a concrete class and directly access it. mBoundService = ((CheckZone.LocalBinder)service).getService();

//This line complians about binding, and states that it can not be resolved. How do I fix this please? Toast.makeText(binding.this, "Connected to CheckZone", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); }

Android :: Difference Between Service And Content Provider

Aug 19, 2010

I am developing an app and get confused about the idea of Service and Content Provider in Android. In practice, what will be the difference between them? Content Provider is a facade and it defines a way to share data among applications. You many attach a local database to your app or create Content Provider mapped to a universal database so that all the application on the same device can share it. Service is long running processes that need to be decoupled from main activity. It has local and remote service. local service is like the local database, and remote service is like Content Provider sharing the database info.

What My App is doing? downloads info. from multiple internet resource in the background (I suppose this will be Service) and store the info. into database, and multiple applications will need to retrieve the data, format them and output them to user (I guess it will be a Content Provider). What will be the fine line between Service and Content Provider? Newbie in Android

Android : Content Provider Implementation - Original Data Stored On Network Or Local/remote File Systems

Jun 13, 2010

I'm now trying to implement my own content provider. My original data was stored on network or local/remote file systems, so I want to provide data via input stream. I know that client may call ContentResolver.getnputStream to retrieve the input stream to access data. But I don't know how to implement content provider in this situation, I searched the Internet but all the tutorials for content provider are talks about how to expose data that stored on local database. how to expose data that stored on file systems using a content provider? what happened when client call ContentResolver.getnputStream? I want to know how to return an input stream to my client.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 :: Switching Service Provider Applications?

Oct 13, 2010

I purchased an unlocked new Sony Xperia X10 from overseas because I was told it wasn't going to be released in the US. I had been waiting for the release since I had heard about the production of the phone and so I didn't care so much about the price. However, I recently went to an AT&T store and inadvertently saw my phone there and almost punched the first AT&T rep I saw for lying to me. I remained calm and asked if it was possible to get the AT&T software on my phone instead of the Telstra software applications that are non-functional and cannot be removed. They told me, "no, we dont do that, ask sony." Please, someone tell me I can somehow load the AT&T software to my phone, so I can use the applications that came with the phone, like MySync, Downloads, PlayNow, etc.. I spent so much money on this phone, and now it's available through AT&T for $150 with a 2 year contract; I wouldn't feel as terrible if mine could at least DO everything the AT&T one could.

Android :: Network Service Need To Return Callback

Oct 6, 2010

if the service dies, and i know it can during request processing, it's an issue for me, first i've seen it, the process wont die until the net request returns (then the thread dies gracefully), unless kill -9 is used on the process... then i'm not sure what android does with the connections. I'm not sure what's the approach i should take here.(it will be true though even if this was a local thread and not a service)if i want the service to listen on a callback and call it once the network processing is done, i'm in a problem, no instances can be passed on using Intents.

So i need some other solutions, all the ones i though of sounds bad to me: A. use IBinder to get instance of the network service class then i can call one of it's methods and pass on an instance, this will work since they all run in the same process, BUT requires me to use Async way to get a Network instance which is not so suitable for me. B. Use static member in the Service i can access, then what to i need the service for ?. use intent to send parameters only to the service, the service will compose a Request out of it and put it in the queue, then once done will send a response using intent which will encapsulate the response (which might be long!) and will also contain the name of the calling class as a string so all the Receivers will know if it's for them or not - BIG overhead of encapsulating data in Intent and search in all the receivers for the right one to get the response.I don't want to use the service as a local running simple thread since i'm afraid if i'll run it in the root activity i will have to use static container so it will be visible in each activity and if the root will be destroyed for some reason it will take all the service with it, even if i start new task and the process is still alive.Anyone got some nice ideas on how to approach this thing ?

Android :: No Network Connectivity In Service/AlarmManager Process

Mar 24, 2010

I have a Service/AlarmManager set to go off ever hour; as seen at: http://github.com/commonsguy/cw-advandroid/tree/master/SystemServices...

The Alarm triggers a Socket connection to communicate with a Web Server. I'm logging the interaction to a file so I can see it later. When I leave the phone on my desk for a day, it seems that more often than not I get a "Network unreachable" error when trying to do any networking.

I believe it is related to how deeply the phone goes into sleep. Is there a special kind of lock I have to hold, or some command required to prep the wireless radio so that it can be ready to access the Internet?

Android :: GPS Initialization - Finding Satellites

Nov 26, 2009

I have searched the forum for GPS but find nothing so I am posting here, move if the wrong place. I have a VZ Droid and find that the phone service has to be turned on before the GPS will find any satellites. The fix will continue to hold if I switch to Air mode so the phone is not needed after initialization.

Google has been good enough to give us European maps but if a phone service is needed to initialize the GPS the location function etc will not work in Europe. I had planed on taking the Droid to Italy next year but it looks as if it will be useless. Any workaround or is my phone "broken"?

Android : Content Provider - No Link Between Content Provider And Its CONTENT_URI Declared In Another Class

Mar 1, 2010

I am having a hard time understanding content providers. In the notepad example and others, the content provider never even declares its CONTENT_URI anywhere inside itself, yet the docs say to publicly declare this. It's declared in a different class. So when an activity queries a content provider with a CONTENT_URI, how does Android know which one I want. I see no link between a content provider and its CONTENT_URI declared in another class.

I also don't how to think about intents and content providers. I know that you don't call an intent on a content provider. But an activity queries a content provider without an intent, and an activity has a mimetype attribute in the manifest that would seem to tie it to a content provider.
