Sprint HTC Hero :: Copy And Post Files For Boot Sequence?

Aug 3, 2010

Is it possible that someone who still has 1.5 on their Hero to copy all the needed files for the COMPLETE boot sequence and post it so I can download it? Someone has already posted the HERO logo with the android waving but I would like the whole boot loop.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Way To Backup - Copy System Wallpaper Files

Dec 9, 2009

After a hard reset on my first Hero, the factory/system wallpaper files disappeared. Thereafter, I was unable to set the background for the lock screen to anything but the default. When I go to set lock screen background, the device reports "no media found".

Now that I have another Hero, I would like to backup those 22 factory background/wallpaper files.

1) Is that possible? If so, how? Does it require me to root the device so I can actually "copy out" the files?

2) Does there exist a backup software that can do a full system file backup? If so, please recommend one.

3) I have seen several file manager-like applications. Do any of these applications browse system files and allow one to copy them? (Is rooting reqired)?

4) Does anyone have copies of the system/default wallpapers? If so, will you please zip them up and post it here?

5) WHY did the pictures disappear after a hard reset? If they are part of the ROM, why did they not return after a reset?

Sprint HTC Hero :: Way To Copy Files From Micro SD Card Onto PC Desktop / Macbook?

Nov 8, 2009

I've checked related posts and this question specifically pertains to the HTC Hero Sprint CDMA phone. Before connecting my phone to my PC desktop computer, I want to verify if this is the correct method: Question May simply connect my USB cable from my HTC Hero into my USB drive into my PC desktop? Will this pop-up the files, directly, etc? May I simply Copy/Paste the file(s) (pictures, etc.) into a file on my PC desktop hard drive? Is there simply a folder with my Micro-SD card files? Are there any other folders of files, etc. that may be on my phone which may be copied as well (i.e., Apps, etc.)? It's interesting to note that if an iPhone or iPod Touch is ever lost or misplaced, everything is backed up on iTunes on an external device. I suppose if I lose my phone, I'll have to start over. Correct? Or is there a way to backup Scenes, downloaded apps, customizations, etc.?

General :: Android Boot Sequence And Backup / Access To Boot / Recovery Partitions?

Oct 4, 2012

I try to understand android boot sequence on my JB (under CM10). I found some docs and there should be specific partitions (boot, recovery, system, cache, data).

My understanding of the boot sequence is now:

A) normal boot:
1) Power ON ->
2) bootloader ->
3) boot-partition where i flashed the kernel aka boot.img ->
4a) system-partition with the OS (libs, UI, etc) where i unpacked over CWM my customROM.zip ->
4b) data-partition, where i unpacked google-apps.zip and installed all the apps ->
4c) cache-partition with user data

B) recovery boot (adb reboot recovery):
1) Power ON ->
2) bootloader ->
3) recovery-partition with CWM where i may unpack all the .zip stuff to proper partitions, or restore from sdcard, etc.

Is this correct? I wonder, because i didn't installed CWM into recovery-partition. It cames from install of CM10 (fastboot -i 0xfce flash boot boot.img), so it must be in boot-partition and not in recovery?

So, next confusion: i looked up to /proc/mtd and i don't see neither boot nor recovery partition here:

Quote:

# cat /proc/mtd
dev: size erasesize name
mtd0: 19000000 00040000 "system"
mtd1: 00600000 00040000 "appslog"
mtd2: 06580000 00040000 "cache"
mtd3: 1a400000 00040000 "userdata"

I did a backup with CWM and loocked the data. There aren't boot, and recovery backups:

Quote:

# ls -lha /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/2012-10-04.18.49.55/
d---rwxr-x 2 system sdcard_r 4.0K Oct 4 18:56 .
d---rwxr-x 3 system sdcard_r 4.0K Oct 4 18:49 ..
----rwxr-x 1 system sdcard_r 1.6K Oct 4 18:54 .android_secure.vfat.dup
----rwxr-x 1 system sdcard_r 54.6M Oct 4 18:55 cache.yaffs2.img
----rwxr-x 1 system sdcard_r 360.2M Oct 4 18:53 data.yaffs2.img
----rwxr-x 1 system sdcard_r 212 Oct 4 18:56 nandroid.md5
----rwxr-x 1 system sdcard_r 214.6M Oct 4 18:51 system.yaffs2.img
#

So, i think i didn't understand the boot sequence and partition schema corectly.

General :: How To Interrupt Android Boot Sequence To Force It Boot To Linux Kernel Only

Sep 12, 2013

I am trying to do some low level performance testing related to device processor cores through adb which I feel it is affected by Android background services and system stuff.

As I know that the Android boot sequence stages are as follow:

1.Execute Boot ROM code.
2.Execute the boot loader.
3.Load the Linux kernel.
4.Launch Zygote, which initializes the Dalvik VM.
5.System server which loads the Android system.

So my question is how can I interrupt this sequence to force it stop on stage 3 to load Linux kernel. This can implement my intermediary performance testings before loading again Android system.

Does Fastboot or Clockworkmod recovery can load my device to a kind of Linux kernel?

Sprint HTC Hero :: Soft Keypad Runs MMI Sequence During Call?

Nov 12, 2009

When I am in a call on my Sprint HTC Hero, if I bring up the touch-keypad, hit the number 1 and then slide the keypad away, I get a message "Starting MMI sequence" and the call disconnects. The reason I discovered this is because I use Google Voice and I need to press 1 to accept a call or 2 to send it to voic email. But, when I press 1 and slide away the keypad, it disconnects. This does not happen when I press the actual keypad soft-button to get the keypad to disappear, it only happens when I swipe it down and away. It runs other MMI Sequences, depending on which key I press... (2 and 4 give me a dial tone to make another call, 3 gives me a popup that says "unable to conference calls", etc...) so is this a function of the phone (like a shortcut or something), or is it something that shouldn't be happening? Like I said, I don't think I've noticed it before the last day or so and I can't find anything about it in the manual or on any of the forums. Should pressing a button on the soft-keypad and swiping the keyboard away while in a call always run an "MMI Sequence"?

Sprint HTC Hero :: Post 2.1 Upgrade - Force Close During Loading

May 22, 2010

So I did the upgrade at home, no problem, then loaded My Back up from the market, and reloaded my apps and data from my SD card. I got all the way to load HTC home (109 items). At item 107, force closed pops up. Now when it goes to load the home page it's an endless cyle of forced closed.

Took it to the Sprint store, nothing they can do but reload the 2.1, come back in 2 hours . I do, go home and run threw all these steps again, but this time without loading the task killer app (store recomendation). Same results!

Sprint HTC Hero :: Copy / Paste Character Limits?

Dec 14, 2009

I've searched and no one has addressed this topic (which has me worried). I was using my native mail (not Gmail) app last night and needed to copy three paragraphs from a received email into an outbound message for a client. When viewing the received message I went through the process to copy, long hold screen, highlight text with finger, release, "copied to clipboard".. great. Transfer to new message, long hold screen, PASTE. Excellent, wait, no I only see it pasting HALF OF THE LAST PARAGRAPH. Umm what happened to the other 2.5 paragraphs? Let's try again, oops same result.... WTF!? Is the Hero limited to the number of characters copied to clipboard? Is ANYONE else experiencing this?

Sprint HTC Hero :: Dial Prefix Or Copy Paste From Text

May 13, 2010

I get phone numbers sent via text messages. I need to dial *67 to keep my number private when calling clients. On my BB I would copy and paste from the text and then add the *67 prefix. On the Hero, I can't edit the number once on the dial page. I have tried to copy/paste with the *67 sent in the text, but the Hero doesn't recognize the * as part of the number and only copies the 67 part of the prefix. What apps or workarounds do I have? We don't want to block our caller id completely, only as needed. I just have to figure this important function out.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Replacing Phone Dialer With Keyboard - Fastest Way To Copy Contacts?

Feb 9, 2010

I miss typing in someones name on my BB keyboard and then pressing their name to call them. Love the Hero though. I know the hero can do this, but there are two things I dislike: 1. It uses a keypad not a keyboard. 2. The keypad takes up so much space that you can only see 2.5 names at a time, not 7 or 8+ like a BB. (I know about pressing the button to remove the keypad to see more names) Is there any way of changing #1 or #2 on my Hero? Also, What is the fastest way to copy someone's number and paste it in a text message to someone else? A task I seem to do more often than I would like. The send contact as a vcard is cool, but not all phones can read vcards.

Even tried Damagecontrol 2.08 and it boots and and I even get the sprint animated logo but stays at the htc "quietly brillant" and goes no further.
