Android :: How To Implement OMA Forward Lock?

Mar 26, 2010

I'm working on an application that requires support for forward locking of media files on Android (1.6 and above). Of course, there appears to be no documentation in the APIs on how this might work.The two questions I have are firstly whether forward locking is supported on Android (and in which versions of the platform) and secondly how to implement it in a program that, for example, downloads DRMed ringtones and wallpapers.

Android :: How To Develop For Forward Compatibility?

Dec 10, 2009

I have an app that uses People provider. This is deprecated in version 2.0. I have built my application against API1.6 and set <uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="4" android:targetSdkVersion="4" /> Everything was fine until I wanted to run the app on Android 2.0. Not only is People deprecated it actually doesn't even work! So, I have changed the API I'm compiling against API2.0 and do the OS version check in my code and use People provider or ContactsContract accordingly. I still keep <uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="4" android:targetSdkVersion="4" /> so I can target 1.6 devices. Now when I want to debug in Eclipse it insists on running it on 2.0 emulator. How can I tell Eclipse that I really want to debug on 1.6 emulator? I have installed my APK on 1.6 emulator via the browser. It installed fine, but when I want to use People provider it crashes. I need to be able to debug it.

Android :: Forward Email Attachments?

Mar 24, 2010

I returned my Droid some time ago because I could not forward customer blueprints and inquiries on ot my plants. The files were imp. tif. jpg. excel and word. I was told by Verizon that the phone might do it after some further updates. What is the real deal here. Will 2.1 fix this? I went back to my 2 year blackberry becaue the email was far more reliable and I could forward whatever came in with the emails I got. Is Android not ready for the business market yet, or have things changed since the Droid intro.

Android :: Unable To Forward Messages - Attachments Not Accessible

Dec 13, 2009

When in the messaging app, and in text message conversations I am having many issues. 1st issue: conversations or "threads" as it is put are seperated, which I like this option, but it also makes it an issue. I am unable to forward any messages I receive.

attachments in messages are not accessable, or able to be saved. I can not save photos, video, music, files ect. I can not set any attachments as ringtones, screen savers, backgrounds. And I can not forward any of the information that is included in a text. I have become very frustrated with the Droid, I thought this was a great phone but seems for the pricetag and hype, I am unable to do less with it as simple functions that I had on my previous phone the LG Chocolate. I can not save anything I receive, and I also can not send any of my music files or recordings as an attachment.

I may not have this whole Droid thing figured out, but I dont want it to take me a month to figure it out. And it seems like I am going past my "Worry Free" period of time. I was unable to save many of my items from old phone to Droid, and that was a bother. But the text messaging is my biggest complaint, I liked the ability to save sounds, forwards sounds photos ect. And I can not do this now with the Droid, is there a way to fix this issue?

Android :: Forward Yahoo Mail To Gmail Free

Dec 26, 2009

Just thought I would share a little information I have found with my fellow Droid owners.This guide will allow you to (freely) forward your Yahoo! email to a newly created (or old) Gmail Account for easier integration with your Droid (or other Android Devices) without paying the $20 a month Yahoo! requires for premium service. First create your Gmail account if you do not already have one.
Also I am coming from the "New Yahoo"

Step 1: Sign into Yahoo Mail

Step 2: Click options on the upper right hand corner of your screen. Select to switch to Yahoo Mail Classic

Step 3: In the top left hand corner is your name. Highlight it and select "Account Info". It will ask you to put your password in again.

Step 4: Under Account Setting click "Set language, site, time-zone."

Step:5 Click New Setting and change it to Yahoo! Asia. Also accept the new Terms of Agreement.

You should now see a Yahoo! Asia logo on your homescreen.

We can now enable POP access and Email Forwarding without the $20 a normal member would pay.

Step 6: Click options again in the top right hand corner. Then Mail Options.

Step 7: On the left of the screen select POP and Forwarding. Then Set up or edit Pop and Forwarding.

Step 8: Click the bubble next to forwarding and enter in your new gmail account. Click Save.

Step 9: Send Verification

Step 10: Go to your gmail and grab the confirmation code and go back to the Yahoo! and enter. Enter password again.

Android :: How To Forward Phone Call To Voice Mail?

Jan 21, 2010

I've been searching around the net and browsingthe APIs to find a way to forward an incoming phone call to voice mail, but with no success so far.I know it can be done since some apps do it already. I also know that blocking an incoming phone call is not possible yet and is an issue Google devs are working on.In the app i'm coding, I easily manage to detect an incoming phone call by listening to the phone state. But I cant make the phone NOT ring and NOT show the incoming phone call screen.I' ve tried to cut off the network via a ServiceState object, but that doesn't seem to work.

It would also work for me if the application use the radio tower as a reference or via GPS-tracker.

Android :: Straight Forward Broadcast Receiver To Open / Read File

Apr 16, 2009

I would like my app to pop up in the list of options for opening certain file types in the various file manager, email, and web browser apps. I'm having trouble figuring out how to begin. I haven't found any examples of this sort of thing yet. Don't I need to know what kind of action the other app is trying to invoke on a selected file? How can I possibly know that? Or should I simply assume that all file manager, email, and browser apps will always use ACTION_VIEW or perhaps ACTION_EDIT when trying to send a file to another app? Must I simply assume this and hope I'm right? There are so many possible apps to try to get this to work with, how do I make it receive a "open-file" command from any arbitrary app? Is the code below correct so far? I have the following in the manifest:

<receiver android:enabled="true" android:exported="true" android:label="Some Label, where does this show up?" android:name=".MyBroadcastReceiver" >
<intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.ACTION_EDIT" />
</intent-filter> <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.ACTION_VIEW" /> </intent-filter> </receiver>

I don't see how to specify a file-type or file extension filter in the receiver. How do I do this? Likewise I have the following in the receiver:

public class MyBroadcastReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver {
@Override public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
if (intent.getAction().equals("android.intent.action.ACTION_EDIT")
|| intent.getAction().equals("android.intent.action.ACTION_VIEW")) {
Uri uri = intent.getData(); String uriStr = intent.getDataString();
} } }

Android : Forward Activity Result To Parent With SingleTop Launch Mode?

Jun 1, 2010

I have two activities: a MainListActivity, and a DetailViewActivity. DetailViewActivity is set with android:launchMode="singleTop".

When clicking an item in the "main list" activity, it launches the "detail view" activity via:

startActivityForResult(detailIntent, REQUEST_CODE_DETAIL);

If I then call setResult(RESULT_OK, resultData); and finish(); from within the Detail activity, that resultData is received by the "main list" activity's onActivityResult(..) method correctly.

However, if I implement a "see previous"/"see next" type of navigation within the Detail activity, and implement it using singleTop, that result no longer gets sent back to the initial activity:

Intent nextItemIntent = this.createIntent(nextId);
nextItemIntent.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_FORWARD_RESULT);
startActivity(nextItemIntent);
// at this point, my DetailActivity's onNewIntent() method is called, and the new data is loaded properly

But from here, when I call setResult(..) and finish(), my MainList activity never receives the new/updated result. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
