Is there any programmatic way to get email notification in my application from the built in android email client? Do I have to write my own email client if I want to add custom features like auto-reply and stuffs like it or I can extend some notification framework from any existing application?

Question about Gmail on the Eris Droid.
Has anyone noticed a difference in settings, functionality, or battery life by using the integrated Gmail client as compared to using the Other e-mail which uses an IMAP client??
You set this up at initial startup.
My environment is:
1 Exchange Account - Push
1 IMAP (Gmail) - 2 hourly
1 POP (Hotmail) - Once daily
My issue is that I am receiving alerts for the same new mail repeatedly. Here's the gist:
11:50 - New mail hits my inbox.
12:00 - I receive a notification of the new email.
12:05 - I check my inbox, but choose not to open the email at this time.
14:00 - I get a notification of a 'new' email, yet on checking it's the one received at 11:50, but still haven't opened.
15:00 - Rinse and repeat. Now, I'm not sure how many times this is happening, or even if it's everytime, but there's something definitely glitchy with mail notifications.Has anybody else noticed similar behaviour? If not I may try removing/adding my accounts back in again.
The other day I was clearing up some space on my phone so I was removing data from a few apps. Twitter happens to be one and up to that point it worked fine. This is the default twitter app that came with my nexus one and it has all the latest updates.Since that though its not refreshing itself until I press the refresh button and because of that, I think, I get no notifications. I've looked through all the settings and everything looks right. Update interval Is at 5, same as before and syncing is enabled everywhere. But it does nothing until I pressure the refresh button myself. The Gmail client still works perfectly and I get notifications as always when I get an email.I know your probably gonna tell me to get another Twitter client but all I use it for Is reading news so this one has everything I need and a nice simple UI. Plus it came with the phone so I can't uninstall it anyway.

It works fine, but every mail I send from the phone shows up as unread in the Sent folder, so when I access the account with other e-mail applications I have all these unread messages in the Sent folder. I have never had any e-mail applications mark Sent mail unread. Is there a way to prevent the Android mail client from marking sent unread?

My only two choices are to access through my Android Chrome browser or find a way to make my Jelly-bean Android mail app look like it is a Windows phone. ...or a 3rd part mail app that looks like a Windows/windows phone mail client
I prefer the mail client route as it keeps in sync with updates.
I'm pretty new to the Android here and I just need a little nudge in the right direction I think. I have my gmail account set-up, and a hotmail account set up through the mail application, but I just got a job which provided me with my own email address.
My boss gave me the information to set it up on my phone but under protocol, I only see POP, APOP, and IMAP. He told me the "smtp mail server" so I'm guessing I'm kind of missing something. Do I need to use a different program to get my work emails? Did he not give me all the information I needed to set it up?
Just got my incredible and i want to sync up the mail client with my school account. My school used microsoft outlook. I guess what im asking is how do i do it? I dont understand where to find all the information that is needed
View 10 Replies View RelatedI was under whelmed with the email client which handles POP3 (hotmail, yahoo, verizon, etc.) accounts, and was looking for an "Outlook Mobile" type client, coming from my Moto Q. The stock client just seems to limited, aside from having some issues. Looking around, I came across the K9 Mail client and found that it was available in the Android Market. Its only been installed for a few minutes but in checking the settings/features, its much more robust than the stock client. Many more check intervals, options to set default number of messages, delete from server on delete option. The only caveat on install stated that it may have issues with Hotmail (i.e. Plus or paid accounts may have connection issues) but my basic free Hotmail came thru fine.
Text is much easier to read with the white background, black text and 2 line info display. You can also manage identities, and has more features I don't understand, and probably wont use. With my check interval at 3 hours, I sent a test message from my comcast account (not involved with DROID) just now and got some certificate error message from the program (has its own mail folder for errors), when I performed a manual check/sync. I just ran it again and the message came through. I think it may have been SMTP setting issues, but they seem resolved. Based on the the interface and options alone, I think I'll work with this app.
So one issue I am starting to have is major problems with the HTC Mail client. It does not update no matter what I set the check new mail frequency interval to. It will maybe check it once, then after that I have to manually check for e-mail. That's useless to me. I have tried re adding the account many times. I have even re set the phone back to factory settings. Notifications also work intermittently as well. Is anyone else having this issue? I'm hoping I am not alone. Should I just use the built in GMaill app? (yes it's a gmail account). What do all you guys use? Any thoughts?
View 4 Replies View RelatedThis is a big disappointment for me. As reported in the "known issues" leaked document, you cannot view a PDF from the standard e-mail client. You have to save the attachment to SD then use a file explorer to find the file and view it. A huge pain!
I was sure hoping yesterday's update would fix this issue, but it did not.
If VZW and Sammy hope to make this phone a contender in the business market, this must be fixed. Email 101 guys.
I know I can use Touchdown, but don't like how it integrates with the rest of the phone.
I was pleased to see pinch and zoom on the email client, unlike the Droid X/2, but this lack of PDF attachment viewing is just unacceptable!

Does anyone know of an app that will allow vibration for e-mail notifications when phone is set to vibrate? This has always bothered me about a device that I otherwise think is just an outstanding piece of equipment. If anyone has an idea I would GREATLY appreciate it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThis is driving me crazy. How do I clear voice mail notifications? Let me explain what I do. Of course the first thing is listening to the voice mail. Then I delete it. The notification is still there. When I open the notifications area I see voice mail pending. It's the same voice mail that I already listened and deleted. I click the voice mail icon and it tells me there is no voice mail. Then I go to settings, calls, and there is an option to clear voice mail notification, but is grayed. I can't do anything there. The only thing I can do is turn the phone off and back on. That is the only way I can clear the notifications area. There should be a better way. Anyone has the same problem?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIm newbie android user and so far loving it. I had a blackberry previous to my new fascinate and was happy with it but am way happier with my fascinate. Although, I'm having a problem (maybe it's normal for the droids and this phone) with my email notifications and FB notifications. I have my aol (primary) and yahoo emails on my home page but don't get notified when I have a new email. I have to physically open up the email icon. Is that normal for this phone? or is there a way to have a notification on that top bar (where txt msg notif. are) when I do get and email? Facebook know it's not a necessary thing but I was used to with my BB that I'd get a notification star on my FB icon when I had a new message/notification. Is there a way to have that on my FB here. The only way I know I have any FB notifications is when I physically open my FB icon and see a star on the notification bar at the bottom of my screen. I don't even know if fascinate and FB offer this kind of notification but if it does I'd like so enable it. I'm also having a problem syncing my fb contacts with my phone contacts. I don't know if its because my FB acct is under a different email than the gmail acct you need for the fascinate.

My issue is that I have other people who access the accounts as well (from desktop computers), and I need to be notified when they send emails. So what I can't find is how to get notifications of sent mails from my own accounts.I had this on my blackberry curve, where I would be notified of that.

I used android market to get the Gmail widget (the one where the icon has the message coming out of the envelope and it looks like a red 'M'). That was working fine and I was getting my e-mails without any problems.The other day, I was tinkering with settings and I set up the HTC Mail widget, which I (stupidly) linked to the same Gmail account. I started to receive double notifications for my e-mails. I quickly realized I preferred the Gmail widget I was using previously, so I removed my account from the HTC Mail widget.So, my problem is that I no longer receive any notifications from the original Gmail widget when I get new e-mails. In fact, I no longer receive any notifications when I get e-mails. I have gone through all the settings I could find and all notifications are set to update automatically and alert me. The only thing I have not yet done is the account reset because this says I will have to reset my phone to factory settings and I don't want to lose everything I have on it at this point.

Maybe I'm too dumb, but after I listen the voice mail and delete it, the notification is still in the notification area. I don't see any setting or way to remove it. I have to restart the phone. Under settings - accounts - corporate, I do see calendar, contacts and email are checked to sync. Also under settings -> data mgr, I have data push enabled and the fetch schedule is the minimum 15 minutes.However, if I have push enabled, I expect the email should notify immediately. Right?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently picked up the HTC hero and love it so far. My only complaints are battery life and the fact I did something wrong when setting up my yahoo mail. As far as the battery goes there is nothing wrong, I was just used to a regular flip phone. I just charge this every night now.I have been lurking here for a long time and finally picked up my first smartphone and LOVE IT. This site has helped me in so many ways already.When I set up my yahoo mail using the (other(POP3/IMAP)) setting and I got a call in the middle of it and started over. I actually ended up entering my yahoo mail twice on accident. They both work perfectly fine. So I get a notification twice for every one email I get. Completely my fault and not the phones in any way, but either way I cant figure out how to delete one of them. One is named Yahoo and the other jjj_85, my account name. I have dug through every option I can think of and searched on here and came up with nothing. All the options are just to modify the accounts I set up already. Any ideas on how to delete one of them? Hopefully I just overlooked something simple.
