Is it possible to change which app is used when email notifications are clicked? On my HTC One it uses the default mail app but I like to use Gmail. Can you change it for other things like text messages?

I have the HTC Mail widget on my homescreen. Is there any way to have the phone open messages with the Gmail App when I select them rather than opening with the HTC Mail App? For example, I also have the HTC Messages widget on my homescreen. When I select a message from that widget, the phone opens the message in the Handcent SMS app that I downloaded. When I first downloaded Handcent, the phone asked what program should be used as the default for messaging. I never got a prompt like that for email.

My issue is that I have other people who access the accounts as well (from desktop computers), and I need to be notified when they send emails. So what I can't find is how to get notifications of sent mails from my own accounts.I had this on my blackberry curve, where I would be notified of that.

1 Exchange Account - Push
1 IMAP (Gmail) - 2 hourly
1 POP (Hotmail) - Once daily
My issue is that I am receiving alerts for the same new mail repeatedly. Here's the gist:
11:50 - New mail hits my inbox.
12:00 - I receive a notification of the new email.
12:05 - I check my inbox, but choose not to open the email at this time.
14:00 - I get a notification of a 'new' email, yet on checking it's the one received at 11:50, but still haven't opened.
15:00 - Rinse and repeat. Now, I'm not sure how many times this is happening, or even if it's everytime, but there's something definitely glitchy with mail notifications.Has anybody else noticed similar behaviour? If not I may try removing/adding my accounts back in again.
I just got my Captivate the other day and I was wondering if there are any good e-mail apps for gmail, yahoo mail, and hotmail? I've tried each and the stock but either it won't let me add multiple accounts or it doesn't receive the emails even though there are new ones in my inbox when I check it.
View 2 Replies View Relatedfor some reason i can't seem to set up my personal yahoo email account. i keep getting an error saying i'm not authenticated? i just logged in with this pc and didn't have any problems. i was trying to set it up using the mail widget google /gmail worked just fine with their widget are they trying to just force me to use gmail only anyone have any similar problems and/or tips to get it set up. i would like to move to one email account but you know how it is, you get on, you get another, people have the old address guess i could forward yahoo to gmail.

When I do this, the chooser comes up and gives all kinds of choices, for anything that can handle text/plain i assume, because there's stuff in there that doesn't support "e-mail". How can I make it so that it will only show applications that support email (gmail, mail, yahoo mail, etc...) and not stuff like "Bluetooth", "Facebook", etc...
I get hundreds of emails every day and I currently get a notification but no audio tone or vibrate as it would be going crazy. This is how I want my general email notifications set up. So that part is fine. What I do want however is for starred messages to play a tone/vibrate similar to my text messages. I went into Gmail and then Manage Labels within the menu and I confirmed that 'Starred' is set to sync all and ring, vibrate, notify once. This to me seems like it should be notifying the way I just described that I'm looking for but there is no different notification for starred messages the way I had hoped. What am I doing wrong here?

In settings I have found now two options:
1. Show archive, delte or both in buttun bar
2. Enable Swipe to xxxx
where in option 2 xxx changes depending on the value for option 1:
- if 1 = archive then xxx = archive
- if 1 = delete then xxx = delete
- if 1 = both then xxx = archive (!!!)
The above makes no snese at all....
It happens from time to time (too many) when i get an email, open it through the item in the status bar, and when the Gmail app loads it shows the loading circle and then get stuck (freezes). After a few seconds i get an option to wait or FC, (sometimes the device is reseting itself) waiting doesn't worth too much since it doesn't responds later on and i have to FC and open the Gmail app "manually". View 6 Replies View RelatedThe GMail-App on my Xoom and my Nexus S (both with Android 4.0.3) is driving me crazy. In former times I could easily report mails as no spam.
That doesn't work anymore. Instead I guess it should be possible to mark the mails and label them as "Inbox". But that doesn't work, either. With some luck, it works with 1 or 2 mails, but the rest stays in SPAM, even though at first they disappear from the spam-folder.
Isn't there a way to do that? Why is there no real option to mark the mails as no spam?
I get a google calendar invitation in the GMail app, but when I click on one of the yes/no/maybe links, it opens in the browser, not in my calendar app.
I immediately tried to clear defaults, but none existed on gmail, browser, chrome or calendar app. I tried disabling browser/chrome/ and bionic default calendar, and installed Google Calendar from play store....problem still happened.
(edit, of course browser/chrome didn't open when they were disabled, but I was surprised that Google Calendar also did not open). I'm rooted, but running regualar moto ics

Im having an issue with my gmail notifications. I still want to receive gmail notifications on my home screen (the app icon where the image shows how many emails) however I dont want it to play a sound.
I googled how to remove the sound, but all the walk throughs start with tapping a 'menu' button (three vertical square dots) at the bottom left in the gmail app. I dont see this menu button - see image below
I was wondering if there is a way to get instant gmail notifications on my samsung stratosphere? If I want to check my email on this phone, I have to go into the account I want and keep hitting refresh until the emails appear. On my old Incredible, I would see the notification for the email right away.

I don't want to forward my mail to gmail nor do I want to switch everything over. After upgrading to Gmail 4.3 on both of my devices (TF101 running Team EOS 4, and One S running LiquidSmooth 2.1), I had the ability to archive/delete from notifications. However, I noticed that this function was missing yesterday; it's gone back simply to "swipe to dismiss".
I've tried reinstalling, to no avail.
Is there any advantage to using the GMAIL app vs. HTC Mail Widget for GMAIL/GoogleSync?I'm stock & the wanted to clear room on the pages one way or another & get myself organized.

View 4 Replies View RelatedThis is driving me crazy. How do I clear voice mail notifications? Let me explain what I do. Of course the first thing is listening to the voice mail. Then I delete it. The notification is still there. When I open the notifications area I see voice mail pending. It's the same voice mail that I already listened and deleted. I click the voice mail icon and it tells me there is no voice mail. Then I go to settings, calls, and there is an option to clear voice mail notification, but is grayed. I can't do anything there. The only thing I can do is turn the phone off and back on. That is the only way I can clear the notifications area. There should be a better way. Anyone has the same problem?

View 1 Replies View RelatedIm newbie android user and so far loving it. I had a blackberry previous to my new fascinate and was happy with it but am way happier with my fascinate. Although, I'm having a problem (maybe it's normal for the droids and this phone) with my email notifications and FB notifications. I have my aol (primary) and yahoo emails on my home page but don't get notified when I have a new email. I have to physically open up the email icon. Is that normal for this phone? or is there a way to have a notification on that top bar (where txt msg notif. are) when I do get and email? Facebook know it's not a necessary thing but I was used to with my BB that I'd get a notification star on my FB icon when I had a new message/notification. Is there a way to have that on my FB here. The only way I know I have any FB notifications is when I physically open my FB icon and see a star on the notification bar at the bottom of my screen. I don't even know if fascinate and FB offer this kind of notification but if it does I'd like so enable it. I'm also having a problem syncing my fb contacts with my phone contacts. I don't know if its because my FB acct is under a different email than the gmail acct you need for the fascinate.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running on the HTC EVO and as soon as I got my phone I set up my Gmail account through the automatic setup process. I used android market to get the Gmail widget (the one where the icon has the message coming out of the envelope and it looks like a red 'M'). That was working fine and I was getting my e-mails without any problems.The other day, I was tinkering with settings and I set up the HTC Mail widget, which I (stupidly) linked to the same Gmail account. I started to receive double notifications for my e-mails. I quickly realized I preferred the Gmail widget I was using previously, so I removed my account from the HTC Mail widget.So, my problem is that I no longer receive any notifications from the original Gmail widget when I get new e-mails. In fact, I no longer receive any notifications when I get e-mails. I have gone through all the settings I could find and all notifications are set to update automatically and alert me. The only thing I have not yet done is the account reset because this says I will have to reset my phone to factory settings and I don't want to lose everything I have on it at this point.

Sprint updated my profile today (turn on the picture mail app) and every since that time, I have not been able to open attachments. I have rebooted several times, un installed and re-installed the yahoo app, updated my profile and PRL. Still no luck. Any ideas?
