Android :: Application Developers - Allowed To Access System Properties Like Ro.config.sync?

Apr 20, 2009

Google applications do it, and apparently it used to be part of the public API (via android.os.SystemProperties.) How are we supposed to enable/disable sync on the phone? Disabling/enabling roaming is easy, but I'm beating my head against the wall trying to find a non-hack method for disabling auto-sync (much less the granularity that would actually be nice.) Is this intentional by the framework team? Is it a whoopsie that is planned to be changed later?

Android :: Computer Not Letting Me Access Phone/sd Card

Nov 22, 2010

I'm plugging my phone into my computer (Windows 7), but when I try to view sd card contents I am getting "Please insert disk" notification. It recognizes that I have it plugged in and it charges, but I can't access any of my phone files. I was able to do this 5 hours ago and since I've had this phone, this has never happened before. Before when I plugged my phone in I instantly got a pop up asking if I want to see files, but now I can't even access them without that. No idea where this new problem just came from.

General :: Wireless Network For Phone / Tablet And Computer?

May 23, 2013

I've just gotten a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 to go with my S3 and now that I have more than one device floating around my house, I'm wondering if there is a better way to share files and data among them than to hook each to my computer separately and then transferring stuff around by USB. I'm looking into Kies, but in the past, I've never been able to get it to work correctly, so I'm not sure if this will work any better on this attempt. Am I on the right path, or is there something different / better than Kies that I could use to have all three devices available on the network for sharing?

I guess I should probably ask if what I want is even possible... I'd really like an always on type of networking where as long as the device is online, I can push data back and forth (ie if my tablet is at home sleeping, and there is a file I want to get from it, I can access it from my phone and vis versa). In addition to that, I'd like a similar connection to exist between my two mobile devices and my computer so I can transfer files back and forth with the computer without having to take up desk space by connecting the device with USB.

Android :: Network Access When Phone Sleep

The only problem I have is that when sleep policy terminates Wi-Fi connection the synchronization no longer works. Is there a way to "wake up" the Wi-Fi connection that has been put to sleep? GMail somehow manages to do that because it notifies me about new e-mail even if the phone entered sleep mode.

Android :: Can Browser Load From Local Server To View Pages?

Apr 6, 2009

Can one use an Android phone to access basically local (think intranet for example) web servers to view pages? I ask this question because some cell phones with some phone network appear to use a special server to funnel cell phone requests thru and that the server offloads from the browser part of what a browser normally does. I get the impression that the Opera mobile browser works this way.I want to talk to local devices that serve web pages and connect directly to them from phones. Does the Chrome browser in Android have the full functionality that Chrome has on a PC? Can it parse HTML, do XMLHttpRequest, and otherwise act like a modern browser?

Android :: RTSP Streaming - Local Network

Jul 18, 2010

I am wanting to try out RTSP locally so that I can play about with it etc. I've got RTSP working from m.youtube.com and would now like to try and get it so it streams from my LAN. Obviously the Emulator is no good, because like I've read it either requires a lot of computing power OR it has an internal firewall that prevents playback. Which ever the reason, the Emulator is not working. So I attached my HTC Hero to my LAN via WiFi (connected it to my WiFi router). I also have another computer (lets call it Computer A) attached to my WiFi via Ethernet cable, and then another computer (lets call that Computer B) attached to that one, again via Ethernet.

Now I've run Wowza server on Computer A and tried to browse via my HTC but it seems it is trying to connect out to the internet every single time. I've also run an Apache web server on Computer A, but Hero still can not see this, so I know it's not a configuration fault on the servers. How can I test RTSP when I can't even get my Hero to connect to my local network ? I've searched around to see what the problem but can't find it, so either no one knows, or more likely I am not putting in the right search parameters. Can someone perhaps guide me on this on how to attach phone into Local network? Once I have it connected I can play about with RTSP to my heart's content then.

Android :: Access Local Web Pages

Jun 19, 2010

I have some web pages that I want to bundle with my Android application and display as static pages. Where do I put them? How do I access them? I'm working in Eclipse, so I want a solution that automatically bundles them.I've tried putting my web pages in res/raw, and I can read them as an input stream from there, so I could push that into a WebView. But I'd really prefer if I could stick them somewhere and access them with a URL. I've tried file:///android_asset/about.html but that didn't work. Surely there's a way to form a URL to display bundled pages.

HTC Desire :: Phone Stopped Getting Internet Access / Got Network Error

Nov 1, 2010

I am on a debranded Orange handset running Android 2.2. Had the phone for around 4 months without issue. I went to London last weekend and started noticing problems with the mobile internet. I was largely relying on it to get me around but the mobile internet is playing up. Even if I have H or 3G signal, my phone has suddenly stopped getting internet access or i get network errors. Nothing has changed on my handset and I usually get good signal wherever I go. I'm currently in work where I always get 3G symbol. I have the 3G symbol now with both arrows animated yet my web browser won't load anything and the market place just says I have no network access. Could this be something to do with the Orange/T-Mobile merge? Or has my phone died on me?

General :: How To Hide Device From Local Network

So I am wondering how to hide or protect my phone when it's plugged in, just charging or as a disc drive. I could use a wall charger but when I want to do file transfers, I am not sure if anyone can access my phone (Samsung S4). I am not sure what kind of network our company is on, when I log in from home, it comes to a SSL-VPN screen, another says Sonic Wall. Today I tried the properties option in the folder I had open with my phone and there was no "no share" option that I could see

HTC EVO 4G :: Activesync Error Occurred On Computer Running Exchange Server 2007

Jun 11, 2010

Yesterday I noticed that my corporate email (i.e., Activesync) were no longer being synced to my HTC Evo (running Android 2.1). A little troubleshooting revealed the following: I could still send emails from the Evo via the synced account. My synced calendar and contacts continued to updated without error. I believe my company is running Exchange 2007, but I am not sure (and since the help desk does not officially support syncing to non-Blackberry phones, I doubt they will help me details or troubleshoot). In any case, a little Googling revealed that: This error is not specific to the HTC Evo (it happens on other Android phones).

A few folks reported that the error occurred seven days after Activesync was initially configured on their Android phone, and would reoccur approximately every seven days. In my situation, the only unusual item to note was that my mailbox had reached capacity on the Exchange server sometime during the period when my phone stopped syncing. However, freeing up space in my mailbox did not resolve the problem. In the end, I resolved the problem by deleting the Activesync account on the Evo and re-creating it. After doing that, all emails synced successfully.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Error Occurred On Computer Running Exchange Server

Oct 15, 2009

I am having the following issue with Exchange. When I setup the phone initially, I was able to synch my email, contacts, and calendar just fine. However, I started noticing that my emails had a delayed vs my computer. My Hero was syncing only every 5 minutes or so (I do have selected the option to get emails as they arrive). Eventually, I went to settings, data synchronization, exchange activesync, and there is an error message that says 'Error occurred on the computer running the exchange server'.

It also seems that it hasn't synced the contacts and calendar in a while, apparently it stops after failing to sync email. The funny thing is that I am actually do getting new emails just not as they arrive, but as I said before, every 5 mins or so. Another thing is that If I click on Synch now. I do not get that error message and it syncs mail, contacts and calendar just fine, but again when it tries to do it on its own, the error message comes up again.
