Android :: Use Connectbot / Ssh Functionality In Own App?
Oct 28, 2010First, I'm new to Java and Android Development so I hope you're patient with me :)
My aim in my first app is to establish an ssh-connection to my linux machine running openssh and sending commands to it on the one hand and receiving stdout on the other hand.
Since there is an app for doing all the ssh that absolutely benefit to my needs, (connectbot) I thought it would be the best not reinventing the wheel and using connectbot for sending commands.
As I read there is a general mechanism in android to do so called intents. And I found that connectbot seems to offer such intents, but I don't feel able to use them at the moment and I'm not quite sure if it it works that way in general:

As I said I'm new to Java and android and only did a few hello world examples using these great xtensivearts video tutorials:
So its a bit hard for me to get started the right way. What do I want to do exactly?
Simply onpressbutton in my app -> sending a certain command in the background to the ssh-connected machine via connectbot or anything that can provide that.
In further development I would like to get data from the ssh-connected machine (stdout would be enough due to I could handle the output server-sided)
All this has to take place in the activity of my app. Even username and password should be configured via the settings of my app.
It simply should use the basic features of ssh via connectbot.
I would be really happy if you could help me getting started right with this issue. I know it sounds a bit hard for the first app but I really need ssh in my app cause it would greatly facilitate the server sided development.

Aug 1, 2009Just recently got my HTC Magic, i love it, such a cracking OS & Phone combination, lot of my fellow colleagues wish they had not followed the crowd having seen my handset
Right back on topic, i was at the pub with a group of work mates, and we got onto SSH for the Magic (as you do) so i installed ConnectBot.
Great first impressions, easily managed to connect to a box (although it does seam to time out for password entry rather fast?) I could gain access and holding the track ball for Cntrl is a nice option. Which actually makes it useable as i have to use screens all the time in SSH.
My problem is the keyboard, the App looks like it was designed for the G1, after i had done a few commands i minimized the keyboard so i could see more, but then could not get it back.
Is there a way to bring up the software keyboard, while in ConnectBot?
Samsung Moment :: Use Connectbot To Get MSL
Oct 15, 2010Okay, folks...my GPS is pooched. I found the thread about resetting it...but I need my MSL....and i have *NO* clue what to do with connectbot. All the instructions just say "Use it to get your MSL"....*NOT* a lot of help, there.......
Where am i supposed to connect-to...and what do I do *after* that?
I assume I need to use the ##4772579#, since I can't type any text into the phone dialer...I get the MSL prompt from there....but I obviously can't get any further.

I'm concerned about other apps on the device capturing root passwords - is this possible, can I look at the apps installed to determine whether or not they can do this, is this the right place for this question?

I heard that there were issues with several gvoice updates, so I haven't updated google voice since 0.2.8 and it is working just fine- every call connects, no problems. Is it worth updating to the newest version of google voice with push? For those of you with 2.1 on your Eris- does google voice work for you?

Dec 8, 2009I'm trying to determine whether or not my phone is defective, or if this is a current problem with the Cliq.
Of the apps I've downloaded, only a few of them have worked. Of those few that work, some don't work right. Has anyone had problems with these apps crashing on them, or just not working correctly?
- Nice Battery (see description at bottom of: My Ultimate CLIQ settings (so far))
- WeatherBug (kept showing the wrong location, crashed when trying to change location)
- Snake - doesn't work just says its "paused"
- RingDroid - crashes when I select the "Facebook Pop" button
- Layar - screen is rotated 90 degrees at all times
There have been others, but usually I just uninstall them right after discovering it doesn't work right.
HTC Desire :: Data Doesn't Work On 3g / Calls Don't Work On HSDPA
Jun 14, 2010I've had an HTC Desire on Orange in the UK for about 6 weeks and it is having persistent problem. Firstly despite having a strong 4-bar out of 4 signal, online services and the internet do not work at all when a 3G signal is being received (e.g. news, weather, all widgets, internet, email etc).Calls and texts do work however with a 3G signal.But when a 3g+ signal (HSDPA) is being received, all internet services as above work fine.However, when a 3+ signal is being received, the phone does not make or receive calls or text messages, and often fails to send texts. Calls I make immediately shut down (bleep + �call ended�), and incoming calls from other people go straight to answerphone. Also often when turning the data connection on/off, it freezes and has to be rebooted, and turning airplane setting on and off does not fix the problem.
I have also tried the different network settings (GSM, WCDMA, auto, etc). �GSM� sends and receives calls and texts but doesn�t work (or is incredibly slow) with internet, and �auto� and �WCDMA only� show the problems as above.I don't think this is a network/coverage issues as, as I have seen many people reporting these same issues on other networks and in other parts of the UK, and I have read that other people are having to manually turn off HSDPA to be able to make calls (using an app?). Even if I can stop HSDPA from connecting to make sure the phone works, I still can�t use the internet at all on 3g � even GSM works better!
Finally, when I connect to a bluetooth device (e.g. car and headphones) the phone will connect briefly, and then randomly disconnect. I have also seen this issue reported elsewhere.I very much like the phone and don't want to get rid of it, but these problems are making the phone unuseable.Also I don't know if I should be contacting HTC or Orange about this. Will the upcoming Android 2.2 fix these problems?Anyone know how to fix this or if I need a new handset? Are there any apps that can help? Also does the Nexus One have these problems and are they fixed by Froyo?

May 2, 2010I have so far found two bugs in Galaxo 1.6.3:
a) Speaker doesn't work in call (very weak). works well in ringtones etc.
b) Scrolling contacts by letter doesn't work.
Other than that this is a leap forward, especially with the overclock options!
Both bugs, as well as others, fixed in 1.6.3.1 update!

May 17, 2010Ive had Qik on my Symbian and it worked like this, I go in app on my phone and start recording and that is immediately transfered on my profile qik.com/XYXYXY, so everyone who is on that webpage sees what I am recording in real time. How does it work on Android with Qik app ? I go on my profile but no video is showing ? And whats up with that "Sharing" option ?? It takes names and phone numbers from phonebook ? I dont get it how is that sharing when you can see videos only on qik.com/XYXYXY website ?

I have my own cubicle and get my own computer But they have blue coat Web filter And i lack Administrative So i can install only very limited programs. I've tried starling the android sdk But to no avail. I've thought about tethering too but i'm not sure if that will work Since i don't know if a computer.can maintain more than 1 internet connection. Basically i can't have my phone out while at work, so i need to figure out a way to use my phone to browse the internet on my computer screen without being obvious.

Jul 15, 2010I could not get Astro to work, so I went w/ Estrongs F/E. This works great! Done a scan, found my desk top, viewed all files and folders that I wanted to...BUT cannot open any document. Word, Excel, PDF, MP3, etc. Everytime I click on the files it says "Sorry, No Application Installed." I can open these types of files if they are attached to an email, but not in Es File Explorer.

When I first created the Android application, I saw this error in the Eclipse console:

I commented out this line to fill in the few lines from the tutorial:

When I ran the app, it launched my emulator but all I saw was a vertical screen on the left that said "ANDROID" and phone buttons on the right. I did not see the "Hello, Android" text from the tutorial.
Android :: IM Apps That Actually Work
Nov 28, 2010I chat a lot on AIM and Yahoo messenger, so naturally I'd like an IM app for my phone. I use Pidgin on my home PC, but I don't think it's available for Android yet, so I installed Nimbuzz.
Nimbuzz works great, except that whenever the screen goes dark on idle, it disconnects. This is obviously unacceptable, because the screen often goes dark before the reply to my last IM arrives, making the other party think I've "hung up" on them. I decided to try Trillian instead, but it does the same exact thing.
Is there an IM app out there that actually stays connected? It doesn't seem like this should be such a complicated thing!
Android :: GPS Apps Work
Aug 12, 2010I'm looking into some mileage tracking apps so I can track my mileage at work. There are several on the market that work via gps. Basically you press a button when you start your trip and another button when you end it. My question is about how these apps actually track you. Do they track your location as the crow flies (i.e. they look at your start and end and calculate the distance straight between) or do they calculate based on the actual roads you have to take to get from A to B? I'm wondering if I'd be better off with just an app where I record my miles directly and don't mess with GPS. Can anyone recommend some good mileage tracking apps?

However, two of the emails can be seen fully and one will not load at all. Cannot see emails in the account or send/receive anything. This is fairly frustrating. Oct 10, 2010I always noticed that "Market" app downloads sat for a long time in the "Downloads" queue, hung at "Starting download...", but the download would eventually start. Now that I changed countries and removed the SIM card, downloads don't work at all. They always hang at "Starting download". It isn't a networking problem, as search works and a different set of apps is visible (probably related to the country switch).
