Android :: How Licensing Work In Transitioning From Free App To Paid?

Feb 11, 2009

Here's the scenario: The app is on the market for free. The publisher then decides to make it a pay app and changes the status. I'm assuming you can just do that, but my questions are:
1) Will the publishing console require us to upload a new version if it is to be a pay app, or can we just change it on-the-fly? 2) If we can change it on-the-fly, how will that affect users that have downloaded the free version? Do they get the license to the paid one as well (so they can delete but reinstall the app for free, get updates, etc?) I've finished a game but I've been just waiting for the paid apps to come on line before publishing it. I'm now thinking that I wouldn't mind a 1 week free period before going paid but something felt like the users who download it for free would never have to pay even after I change it to paid and add some sort of desirable update that makes them want to download the new version (and pay then to get it if they have to).

Motorola CLIQ :: Most Apps Don't Work - Snake - Doesn't Work Says Its Paused

Dec 8, 2009

I'm trying to determine whether or not my phone is defective, or if this is a current problem with the Cliq.

Of the apps I've downloaded, only a few of them have worked. Of those few that work, some don't work right. Has anyone had problems with these apps crashing on them, or just not working correctly?

- Nice Battery (see description at bottom of: My Ultimate CLIQ settings (so far))
- WeatherBug (kept showing the wrong location, crashed when trying to change location)
- Snake - doesn't work just says its "paused"
- RingDroid - crashes when I select the "Facebook Pop" button
- Layar - screen is rotated 90 degrees at all times

There have been others, but usually I just uninstall them right after discovering it doesn't work right.

HTC Desire :: Data Doesn't Work On 3g / Calls Don't Work On HSDPA

Jun 14, 2010

I've had an HTC Desire on Orange in the UK for about 6 weeks and it is having persistent problem. Firstly despite having a strong 4-bar out of 4 signal, online services and the internet do not work at all when a 3G signal is being received (e.g. news, weather, all widgets, internet, email etc).Calls and texts do work however with a 3G signal.But when a 3g+ signal (HSDPA) is being received, all internet services as above work fine.However, when a 3+ signal is being received, the phone does not make or receive calls or text messages, and often fails to send texts. Calls I make immediately shut down (bleep + call ended), and incoming calls from other people go straight to answerphone. Also often when turning the data connection on/off, it freezes and has to be rebooted, and turning airplane setting on and off does not fix the problem.

I have also tried the different network settings (GSM, WCDMA, auto, etc). GSM sends and receives calls and texts but doesnt work (or is incredibly slow) with internet, and auto and WCDMA only show the problems as above.I don't think this is a network/coverage issues as, as I have seen many people reporting these same issues on other networks and in other parts of the UK, and I have read that other people are having to manually turn off HSDPA to be able to make calls (using an app?). Even if I can stop HSDPA from connecting to make sure the phone works, I still cant use the internet at all on 3g even GSM works better!

Finally, when I connect to a bluetooth device (e.g. car and headphones) the phone will connect briefly, and then randomly disconnect. I have also seen this issue reported elsewhere.I very much like the phone and don't want to get rid of it, but these problems are making the phone unuseable.Also I don't know if I should be contacting HTC or Orange about this. Will the upcoming Android 2.2 fix these problems?Anyone know how to fix this or if I need a new handset? Are there any apps that can help? Also does the Nexus One have these problems and are they fixed by Froyo?

a) Speaker doesn't work in call (very weak). works well in ringtones etc.

b) Scrolling contacts by letter doesn't work.

Other than that this is a leap forward, especially with the overclock options!

Both bugs, as well as others, fixed in 1.6.3.1 update!

Android :: Free SMS App?

Dec 8, 2009

Have the Motorola droid and searched around a bit. I'll come out and admit I'm a cheap skate and trying to save money on VZ nickle and dime approach (especially compared to Sprint).I signed up for the lowest message plan, so looking for any free to send SMS apps that people use. I signed up for the google voice, but haven't been invited. I heard that has a way to send sms free as data.I am aware of the various free sites on the internet via a browser and was wondering if anyone put together an app to use your contact list or be able to make a new one to send free sms (via data, not plan) that works well.Most my friends have unlimited text so it doesn't bother them.I have also read here and there that some of the instant messaging apps might be able to send a text to a phone number? Any luck with this? So far little info on this subject.

Android :: Free Alternative To SMS

Dec 2, 2009

I just picked up the Motorola Droid, and I'm loving it.I'm trying to find the best free alternative to SMS (because it's ridiculous that after paying $30/mo for 3G access, I have to pay more to move 100-character messages around on the same network...).Ideal would be something like BlackBerry Messenger.So far, I've been using gTalk with my status set to invisible, and that seems to be a pretty good alternative. When I initiate a gTalk conversation with an invisible status, the conversation usually remains short - like an SMS conversation. One downside is that people never initiate conversations on gTalk with me while I'm set to invisible.

Android :: Ad's & Free Applications

Sep 15, 2010

I thought of a question today which I would like to put out there to see what people do / think. When I see a free application which I like and use if an Advertisement comes up which even vaguely interests me I will normally click on it. This I guess is my way of saying thanks to the dev for not only making the app but for keep it free. Who here uses the Ad's in apps? Do you do it because you know it will help the dev out or just because you where interested in the product the Ad was pitching?

Android :: Many Applications Free

I hate to look a gift horse in the mouth, but I'm wondering why so many apps are free. Take for example, PandaHome. I installed it and really love using it. But in the back of my mind I'm wondering why this product is free. Part of my concern is PandaHome has access to many key parts of my Android phone, like contacts, etc. Is it somehow tracking / using my data or my use of the phone for some other marketing purposes? They say there's no such thing as a free lunch, so there's got to be a catch somewhere? Why are so many great apps free?
