Android : HTC Droid Eris / Needs To Update Sense UI

My girlfriend has a Droid Eris and she is currently on 1.5. From my understanding HTC needs to update Sense UI before she is able to get the 2.0 or 2.1 upgrade. Say she didn't want Sense anymore and just wanted to upgrade to 2.0 or 2.1.
Is this something that's possible? Will she lose any functionality? I think it would be worth it to ditch Sense UI and just be able to be on the latest firmware. As these updates become more frequent, I think relying on HTC to keep up is a little unrealistic. Upgrading the firmware at your own pace seems more appealing. Is this possible?

I got the OTA update this morning and my Sense UI has forced close twice now. This never happened before the update. Is anyone else having rhis problem? I will have to just shut off Sense till 2.1 comes out if it happens again.

I like froyo and non sense based ROMs. But my question is being that the HTC Incredible is due to get the Froyo 2.2 update soon, will it be Sense based?

My sister downloaded the app lockbot free and her words were 'it froze when installed so i restarted my phone and now it's stuck at the HTC screen when i turn my phone on'. She was right in the fact that it won't get past HTC now.. I'm at a loss on what to do besides a factory restore.

Today i noticed that when i leave an application either by backing out or pressing home, sense has to reload. It first flashes the HTC sign, then it takes about 10 seconds to load my home screen. Now this morning i installed an update for "spare parts". Im assuming this was the culprit so I un installed. Still having the problem though. Extremely annoying!

Sense UI keeps crashing on me! It used to happen maybe once every couple weeks but now I get it 2-3 times a day. I just got Pandahome last night and when I switch from Panda to Sense it restarts sense maybe 1 out of 10 times but the crashing problem began before then so I don't know what's causing it. I'd try a hard reset but last time I did that my phone wouldn't activate and it took Verizon 3 hours to fix.

when I hit the "Home" soft key, I get "complete action using "Home" or "HTC Sense"both of which take me to different home screens?What happened that this all of a sudden gives me this option?I've never seen this before and want to know what I did to get this?

Well, I just got my OTA update, and now there is only one Sense Widget available on my phone. There are a handful more available via the market, but none of the ones that I had previously used. Has anyone else seen this happen?
It's more than a little frustrating as my customized home screen was pretty heavy on the HTC widgets.

this is a paid app. can a mod lock this thread. i have found a scrollable dock widget that works with sense more than just apps can be placed in the dock too, bookmarks, direct dial/messages, gmail lables, navigations,music, settings, etc

Greetings, after having heavily used the the phone for a week here are my Sense UI/HTC apps pet peeves on the Eris (probably not present in Moto Droid - if someone would confirm it would be great):time stamp missing if it's not today (e.g., SMS from yesterday or before don't show what *time* they were received or sent, same for info on when last mail was last sync yesterday ). The system keeps this info, why not display it? This is useful for me.No weekly calendar view - what were they thinking?? (The day view looks so cool - but not useful to me. However, I can just imagine what a nice job they would have done for a weekly view.This is more a wish list item, not a gripe It would be nice to have the screen blank time separately from the phone lock feature

I have done a little bit or searching for this but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. So if it is out there then I am sorry for the repetitive post.I just updated to 2.1, and can't figure out how to switch to the Home instead of HTC Sense Home? Anyone out there know how to do this? Before on 1.5 OS, all I had to do was hold down the "Home" button to display my most recent 6 apps, then hit the button again to pick if I wanted "Home" or "HTC Sense".Now, that does not work.

I'm trying a run without sense to hopefully relieve a lot of the lag problems I've been having. I know I should root, but I don't want to while I'm still under warranty and I'd like to give it a try without to see if I would like it without sense. I have launcher pro installed with home switcher and that seems to have changed over fine(with one incident where my sense home came up). The problems I'm having are with the messaging and dialer apps. I've installed handcent and like it, but I still get the notifications for the sense messaging app, so now I get two every text messaged. Also I've installed Dialer one, but the green phone button still fires up the stock dialer. Is there any way to fully replace these parts without rooting? I also really want the calendar app back, is the launcher pro one similar enough? I like seeing the whole month and being able to scroll with just the widget.

So idk about you guys but i dont like sense u.i. because of the black bar at the top i just want the gray bar (to me it looks better). So if anybody figures out how to sign a image and it happens to be 2.0 or 2.1 can yall make a post but from what ive heard the HTC has made it to wear the Eris will only take signed roms

Anyone have any tips on disabling 3g without going into airplane mode in the form of a widget, without running Sense. I'm using Helix Launcher, and sure I can use anycut but I was looking for something that just requires one tap....running 2.1v2

I disable the sense by following the steps in the stick and now I cant re enable it. It will not allow me to click the "clear defaults" again. What can I do to fix this or will I have to call for a factory reset?

So I was looking around everywhere, watching all of the few youtube videos that have been popping up showing eris with the 2.1 Sense. But NONE of them demo the browser! One of the biggest thing I am looking forward to is the new Sense's browser performance. So can someone record a video demo-ing the browser? In particular, I would like to see how much the MULTITOUCH (pinch-zoom) has improved from the 1.5 Sense, that is one of my biggest concerns.

I backed up my apps in anticipation of a factory reset and nothing since then. so since i switched back to sense yesterday, i have noticed that when off the homescreen for too long, like while browsing the internet, when i return to the homescreen, sense reboots itself. black HTC screen comes up and sense gets a reboot. i figure maybe this is because the OS is used to switching sense to the background because i was running helix for so long.

Before i start i just want to say that this worked for me. i do not have multiple eri (plural of eris)to test this on.. so if you want to try it and post your results. i was just playing around with my phone and decided to turn sense off. i was playing around with it and then i decided to try youtube. it worked on every video that i tried (with different users and everything). some background info>> my youtube application has never really worked.. it used to be where i could just try the video a few times and after a few error messages it would work. but now, with sense off, it works perfectly. i just thought i would put that out there so that if youtube was that important to you (because i would rather sense than youtube) then you can turn sense off before you decide you need to file a "law suite".

Ive been searching the net, droid forums, and spending ridiculous amounts of time at verizon stores and no one will give me a straight answer. Is there any way to either do something to the bluetooth or change the eris's sense ui so that it can pair with a wiimote, or are there any other bluetooth or USB keyboards or game controller that can for sure work with the eris?
Also, what is the best music player app? All I want is one that has an equalizer that works. Every time I hit the eq button on mixing it say that "the eq doesnt support this file type" and all my music is MP3 wtf. And does anyone know if theres any way that verizon will exchange a "broken" eris for an incredible?

It isn't easy to summarize the problem in the title.So in 1.5 or 2.1 v1 or v2, it was very rare for the Sense UI Home app to have to re-launch.By this I mean when you click the home or back button to return to your Home screen, instead of seeing the home screen you see the black screen with HTC on it, then you wait while it loads the Home application.This very rarley happened before v1.3. Now it seems to happen at least once or twice a day.I don't have more apps installed than I did before, I shouldn't be any more out of memery than I was before.

I've been hovering on the "Let's see you UI" thread for the last day or so. Really liking the icons some of you guys are showing. But everyone seems to being using Better Cut or Dxtop or something other than the standard UI. My questions.
1. If I download the above apps, do I loose Sense?
2. If yes to above, is there a way to use these cool icons on the standard UI so I can keep Sense?
