Android :: Google Market - Prevent Duplicate Charges For Reinstalling Apps

Aug 15, 2010

I have purchased several apps through the Google market. Updating to Froyo required a system reset for me so the apps had to be reinstalled from the market. My google checkout and login ID are the same but Google charged me again for the apps and they showed up on my CC. Tried to resolve through google but gave up in frustration trying to find some way to dispute or rectify the situation. I disputed the charge through my CC but I have a feeling that is going to cause more trouble. Surely there is some way this is SUPPOSED to work and a planned way to rectify easily when it does not.

Android :: Way To Prevent Duplicate Activity?

Nov 30, 2009

I have an Activity which is launched from a Service. This Activity can spawn other children Activities. Now under certain conditions (particularly related to using screen lock), I can end up with the Service starting a second copy of the Activity again. For reasons of performance, the Service is being started and stopped at various times, and cannot be relied on to hold state. What is the best way to prevent this second launch? Can I (for example) detect that the Activity is already running in the stack and do finish()?

Motorola Droid :: Custom ROMs And Reinstalling Apps

Feb 24, 2010

I have found that the AD Community ROM acts as if it is a brand new phone, never activated, and runs you through the set up of all your settings - and then proceeds to DL all your apps that you had installed previously.I posted a comment about it at AllDroid - View topic - [Rom] AllDroid Community Beta 0.3 release and got a reply that when someone went back to un-rooted and what not, the OEM ROM did the same thing. So, this led me to believe that there is some particular setting that allows for this to occur, where the ROM being installed is installed in a certain state so as to make the phone think it has never been activated before. This being said, I wondered if other ROMs could be tricked into thinking the same thing - and I hit upon an idea- what if, after installing a new ROM, you go into settings and do the factory reset that is there? Since I don't have anything installed except for this custom ROM and SPRecovery and such, I am not really gonna lose anything by doing this, so why no give it a whirl

Motorola Droid :: Register Installed Apps Without Reinstalling Each?

Apr 12, 2010

I installed the NexTheme R2, and then restored all my apps with MyBackup Pro. My apps are on my phone but if I go to the android market place it's as if they are not installed. If I proceed to install the app it informs me that it is going to overwrite the current app. Is there a way to register installed apps without reinstalling each app? I am afraid that I will not receive updates due to the phone thinking the apps are not installed.

General :: RAZR - Reinstalling All Original System Apps?

Dec 22, 2011

i was wondering if there was a way to re-install every stock application back onto the phone (bloatware and all.) I tried to upgrade to 6.11.748 but 25% through the installation I got the dreaded exclamation point and the phones says installation failed. I believe the problem is due to important missing system apps like Google Books, Guided Tours, etc. I have the full RAZR system dump files on my PC, is there a way to replace all current apps with the ones from the downloaded dump files? Is there a way to find out what system applications are missing and replace only those? I also have a Titanium Backup of my old files, although I am having issues installing system apps back onto the RAZR. Is there a way to force install the 6.11.748 update? I don't care about losing my root access, I am more concerned about the 3G/4G compatibility and camera bug fixes.. Factory resetting and trying the update does not work, unrooting and trying the update does not work, manually installing missing .apk's does not work.

Motorola Droid :: Duplicate Updates In Android Market

Dec 12, 2009

Is anyone else getting what appears to be duplicate update notifications in the market? This has been happening to me for the last 2 days for Astro File Manager, and Panda Home.I have the latest versions installed.Yet the market tells me there's an update available. When I look at the version number of the update, it's the same as what I have and when I install it, the version numbers wind up being the same.Is this really an issue, or are the authors really throwing new apk's up there with the same version number? Or is there some 'minor' version number they're updating that isn't visible to me, and there really are small tweaks in the update?Curious if anyone has seen multiple updates for these in the last few days, and whether anyone knows what's really going on.

One thing I can't seem to find so far is a list of everything Google offers in the Market - apps, widgets, etc. Searching "Google, Inc." in the Market will bring a lot of non Google apps in between and it doesn't seem to load Google's apps first. Is their a website that has a definitive list of Google, Inc.'s offerings in the Market?

Android :: Developers Be Liable For Charges For Using Google APIs?

Nov 1, 2009

I've been reading the Terms of Service for the Google APIs, both Maps and AJAX APIs. I have questions regarding future consequences of using these APIs in mobile apps that get distributed, hopefully, to many thousands or millions of devices.

Both say that the services must be available for free, so I'm assuming that means you cannot charge a fee for an Android app that uses these services, unless you arrange something special with Google. Which appears to be Google Maps API Premier, an advanced service that uses a page-view-counter-based calculation to determine charges, and is not cheap. Which pretty much says you'd need to charge a subscription fee if you're going to charge at all. If you don't charge now and suddenly get hit with a bill from Google, your free app must remain free (according to Android Terms) so you're out of luck? I suppose it might be possible to include a Terms of Service with the application that says the user assumes all responsibility for any charges related to use of the Google APIs, but that doesn't seem likely to succeed. I think it would be difficult to manage. I also suppose that you could ask Google to block requests that use your API key until you can get a new version out with a fee attached.

Google also says they could charge for the use of the API in the future. This is stated specifically in the AJAX APIs doc, and indirectly in the Maps doc (Google can change the terms at any time). Since the API key that is used when calling APIs belongs to the Android developer, that tells me we could potentially be on the hook for Google charges. The Terms say that we can decide to stop using the APIs. Which is fairly easy when you're running a web site, much different when your application is deployed to thousands or millions of devices. Especially if you've distributed the application for free, and with an expiration date as required of later than October 22, 2033.

I'm nervous now about using Google APIs in Android apps and wondered if anyone else has thought about this. Should Google APIs be avoided? At least until developers have some legal protection?

HTC Incredible :: Google Talk Error / Market Apps Downloads

May 8, 2010

Anyone lately get the Google talk authentication error notification repeatedly and find that they can no longer download apps from the Android market? Mine is going on the third day now and endless Google searches reveal that this problem has affected various Android devices worldwide, including the Incredible that just came out. I've tried all kind of suggestions but none work and there doesn't seem to be any official response from Google on the matter. I wonder if it is a hardware problem since these forums are not buzzing on these issues at all. In my case the phone worked perfectly for 2 days after activating and knowing how high the demand has been surely more people would be experiencing the same issues were it a device or cloud software problem. If anyone else has the same problems please post here.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Duplicate Apps In All Programs ?

Nov 11, 2009

I switched my SMS to Handcent to resolve the battery issue. The tutorial I followed recommended reinstalling Hero's battery after doing all the software stuff. I took this to mean "take it out and put it back in." Well, I did that and it worked for the battery issue, but when I went to my "all programs" a bunch of my apps were listed twice (facebook, some games, etc). I dragged and removed the extra apps but every time I come back to all programs, they are still listed twice. Weird, I know. This isn't a drastic problem, but it is annoying esp if it keeps happening to additional programs.
