Android :: Gmail Notifications Lagging Sync Jammed
Nov 4, 2010
I used to get gmail email notifications instantly when they arrive now I get them only with 1-2 hours delay. Basically I get the notification of a new email faster than the browser version on my pc refreshes (dunno how often it does it maybe once every 10-20 secs). This has been going on for 2 days now. I will get the notification eventually of a new email if I don't mark them as read but just before it was within seconds now it's within hours of the new email arriving. The problem is gmail gets into sync loop I'm assuming this is a gmail problem.

Some have complained about not being able to change the LED or get repeat notifications for gmail. I stumbled on this last night and thought I would share. I haven't tried it and make no claims to its greatness.Gmail Notifier. It lets you change the color of the LED, vibration length, and gives repeat notifications. It also works for multiple gmail accounts I believe.

I have noticed that Gmail is taking a little bit longer to sync, if it syncs at all. I have had to use the manual refresh in my Gmail app to populate mail most of the day today.I have run some tests, and it appears that Gmail will sync in random amounts of time. Sometimes 5-10 minutes, sometimes more than 15 minutes. Up until yesterday, it was almost instantaneous. When I send mail, or change labels, or delete mail on my Droid, the changes are noticed on my Gmail account within a minute or just like normal. It appears to only be a problem with fetching new mails.I have cleared the Gmail app cache, I have turned off sync - rebooted my phone - turned sync on again everything I can think of.

This is my first post on the androidforums. I usually just read what other people wrote, but I can't seem to find a related post for my current problem.I date someone overseas in S. Korea, and since there's no way to send text msgs in Korean from here, I talk to her using activesync with a gmail account. She can check emails on her phone from Korea, and my phone sends me notification everytime I get an email from her. Basically it's same as texting except it allows me to type in Korean and doesn't cost a dime. For the reasons mentioned above, saving battery life isn't much of an option for me. I need to have activesync or gmail push running instantly. I tried using "check email every 5 minutes", but just imagine having to stay idle for 5 minutes everytime you text with your friends.
As of today, gmail push on android seems to work with 5 - 30 minutes delay (or manual refresh). However, Exchange Activesync will not even allow me to sync gmail (Different errors every time even though I'm putting the same information; gmail address,m.google.com as server address, username & password). I thought activesync just allows me to use "gmail push" on HTC mail app, so I don't quite understand why gmail app works (despite the lag), but activesync won't even let me sync my mail. Activesync last worked on 06/17/2010.Also, gmail push works with no lag when I'm on wifi. Is this normal?I'm starting to think there's a problem with the Sprint network or my phone. Gmail push also works instantly if my 3G bar is white. If it's greyed out, no emails come until the 3G bar turns white. Now I have to turn on AIM or MSN messenger to keep the data flowing and manually keep the 3G bar white. Then gmail push comes instantly. It's pretty ridiculous because the battery then lasts about 2-4 hours.

im not an expert on how push email works, but my understanding is that gmail messages should appear on my phone without me having to refresh or manually sync the gmail app. for a reason unknown to me, sometimes this works and sometimes it doesnt. at night, i shut down wifi and the mobile network to conserve battery and start up the mobile network when i leave for work in the morning. i get notification of new yahoo email, thru the htc widget, almost instantaneously, yet gmail doesnt come thru until i manually sync the gmail app. then during the course of the day, sometimes gmail messages get pushed right thru and other times not at all until i manually sync the app. meanwhile my yahoo mail comes thru flawlessly.
considering gmail is supposed to push and the htc widget does not, this is the opposite of what i expect. as far as settings, i have auto sync enabled for both the device and for the gmail app. while i always assume user error until proven otherwise, in this instance i think i have all the correct settings, which makes sense considering sometimes gmail does get pushed. its just erratic and unpredictable. anybody got any ideas what's going on here?

Today I woke up and discovered I was not getting email notifications on my Droid anymore. If I go to the Gmail app they are in there as unread but I'm not getting any kind of notification that I actually have new email unless I go in and manually check. Is anyone else having this problem or knows of a solution? This is getting to be an annoying problem.

I just got a Motorola Droid and I'm greatly pleased with it, but I'm having one minor problem with the Gmail app that's tedious and slightly annoying. I wanted to see if anyone else has the same problem and how you've fixed it. Whenever I get a new email, the notification appears properly. I click it, it takes me to the email. The notification stays there and does not go away like it should. I have to go back to the notification again and either clear notifications or access the email a second time. Any ideas as to why I'm getting two of the exact same notifications?

Does anyone know how to set it so that my Android phone only notifies me when I get a message in my "Priority Inbox" (the new feature Google just launched in case you don't know what it is)? With my email I receive a bunch of newsletters, so instead of being notified every time one of them arrives I'd like to be notified only when messages in my Priority Inbox arrive.Being able to be alerted to messages with certain labels only would also work.

Is there any way to have a gmail notification in the Notifications bar, but NOT have the flashing LED? Basically, I don't want the LED to flash and disturb me, but when I pick up the phone, I'd like to see that I have new emails.

I have a Samsung vibrant. Somehow I turned on a switch that announces "one new email" every time new email arrives at my gmail account. Now I can't find the switch that turns it off! <g>.

SItuation: I'm at work, sitting at my desk when an email arrives in my gmail account. My nexus one buzzes and the trackball glows with a notification. At the same time, my google talk client notifies me that I have a new gmail message, so I figure the phone notification is for that email. I check the email via gmail on my desktop and I now have no new emails, but the notification on my phone remains. Is there anyway to have this notification disappear once I've checked the email anywhere except the android gmail application? I have the same problem with my work email with the email client, too, and it's a little annoying.

I don't think there is, but maybe someone knows how. Does anyone know if there is a way to turn on sounds on gmail notifications. I want to be able to still receive notifications popups, but I don't want sound to play on them. I know I can turn off sounds on all notifications but I only want to on Gmail.

Is there a way to turn off the LED notification for Gmail? I went into the LED options and unchecked "Email," but I'm not sure if that's just for the "Email" app itself, and not Gmail. I still get the LED flash when I have new Gmail, but it doesn't seem to happen *every* time! I still want the notification icon to appear, so I don't want to turn off Gmail notification altogether. I already turned off sound, now I just need to turn off the LED.

I'm using only the stock Gmail client that comes on the phone. I have 2 emails running thru there under "accounts". My issue is that I have other people who access the accounts as well (from desktop computers), and I need to be notified when they send emails. So what I can't find is how to get notifications of sent mails from my own accounts.I had this on my blackberry curve, where I would be notified of that.

I installed Gmail Notifier, but now I am not getting any notifications at all when I get mail. Does anyone else use Gmail Notifier that could perhaps comment? Is it the program or do I have a setting wrong somewhere. Is any other app known to conflict with the notifications?

I get hundreds of emails every day and I currently get a notification but no audio tone or vibrate as it would be going crazy. This is how I want my general email notifications set up. So that part is fine. What I do want however is for starred messages to play a tone/vibrate similar to my text messages. I went into Gmail and then Manage Labels within the menu and I confirmed that 'Starred' is set to sync all and ring, vibrate, notify once. This to me seems like it should be notifying the way I just described that I'm looking for but there is no different notification for starred messages the way I had hoped. What am I doing wrong here?

I did the manual update to 2.0.1 this morning and just now realized that I wasn't getting any incoming email notifications for Gmail. I sent myself a test message from another account and it did not show up on my droid. i went into accounts and manually synced it and now all is well. So, if you notice this issue after the update, just manually sync your accounts and see if that solves it.

I'm thinking they are problems with the apps. Both Facebook and Gmail apps have notifications checked off to show when new messages are received but they never put a notification in my notification panel of my phone or sound a tone or vibrate even tho they are set to. Anyone else have this problem and is there a way to fix it?

My gmail account is not setup in the default mail client Why am I getting 2x notifications for new emails?

After forcing the FRG01B update for the Droid over my new-from-the-store refurb, I don't get notifications. I hear my notification sound, but then when I look at the phone there's NOTHING. No light, no notification in the bar, and when I go to the GMail app, all of the messages are read, but there is a message that wasn't there before...? Now about the refurb thing. I took my phone to Verizon late last week because the camera wasn't working. Anyway, I just got a refurb from the store that they shipped in (since I couldn't guarantee that I would be home when it arrived). So I had the update.zip on my SD card, and so when I boot the phone into recovery, apply the update.zip, and boot into Froyo goodness. Everything was going great until now...I really don't want to have to do a .sbf flash back to ESE81...

how to have back DELETE button in notifications?
In settings I have found now two options:
1. Show archive, delte or both in buttun bar
2. Enable Swipe to xxxx
where in option 2 xxx changes depending on the value for option 1:
- if 1 = archive then xxx = archive
- if 1 = delete then xxx = delete
- if 1 = both then xxx = archive (!!!)
The above makes no snese at all....
