View 7 RepliesUnless I'm losing it, whenever I had a new email notification, pulled down the notification bar, and clicked the email, G mail app opened up the email itself. All of a sudden, when I do the same thing, it opens up the G mail In box and I have to click the email itself to open it. Am I delusional and this is how it's always been?
View 2 Replies View RelatedBusy forum today, so I thought I would post this and try to get a response. Picked up the Droid/Motorola today and have been trying to figure out the Email App vs the GMail App and where I should tie my accounts in.
I have 4 GMail accounts, 2 Local ISP accounts, and 1 Exchange account. Setting up the Exchange account was pretty straight-forward and the phone put that account into the EMAIL application. The exchange account is also listed under the sync settings (since I assume exchange is pushed and therefore it gets labeled as a Sync On/Off ability). The local ISP accounts are POP and therefore also get placed into the EMAIL app due to them being pulled at my "every 5 minutes" setting.
The 4 GMail accounts are my real question. It basically comes down to this... Originally I setup the 4 accounts in the EMAIL app vs the GMAIL app; primarily because thats what I thought I needed to do. The problem I was was having though, is I wasn't receiving my email notifications and/or not receiving my email in a timely manner (push). I then figured out how to set them up in the GMAIL app and moved 2 of the accounts over there and ran some tests.
Emails sent to the 2 accounts in the GMAIL app were pushed to the device nearly instantly. Often times I would receive notification on the device before I got them on my desktop. The emails sent to the gmail accounts on the EMAIL app didn't notify me until the fetch timer (5 minutes) kicked in.
Now even though the auto-configure feature of the EMAIL app when setting up the gmail account defaulted to IMAP rather than POP, I wouldn't think that IMAP would be quicker. I guess it doesn't matter, it all depends on the fetch frequency in your settings.
The problem is, I like, almost love, the combined Inbox feature of the EMAIL application. I also like the account color-coding it does to make reading emails in the combined inbox easier. From what I can tell, the GMAIL app doesn't have such a feature and I need to Menu>>All Accounts>>Select Account>>Open Email to read an incoming message. I assume the GMail app takes advantage of Google Sync and therefore pushes your email to the device, but apparently this isn't available in the EMAIL app itself?
I just got the Motorola Droid a few days ago. Is there an online manual for this device.
How do I change the notifications so I get different notifications for
Text
Email
Gmail
How do I delete applications I downloaded I don't want anymore
I finally updated to 2.1 yesterday with the SDX kernels, and I've noticed (among other things) that my phone does not vibrate on notifications of e-mail or text messages, even though I'm specifically telling it to do so. It doesn't do it when the phone's on silent, vibrate, or at full volume. In fact, there's a "test" mode in HandcentSMS and ever though vibrate is set to "Always," it doesn't vibrate, even when I tap on "Test notification." Even if I set the main control to vibrate when a call comes in, email and texts still do not cause a vibration. Has anyone seen this? I apologize if this has already been spotted--if it has, if you could point me to the link, that would be great.
View 1 Replies View RelatedLooking for an app for my HTC Desire that allows the vibration to be longer or customize the vibration for pop 3 mail accounts, the factory vibration notification vibrates twice when I get an pop 3 email. I have smart vibrator for the phone calls and sms, which works great.

View 6 Replies View RelatedSome have complained about not being able to change the LED or get repeat notifications for gmail. I stumbled on this last night and thought I would share. I haven't tried it and make no claims to its greatness.Gmail Notifier. It lets you change the color of the LED, vibration length, and gives repeat notifications. It also works for multiple gmail accounts I believe.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just pulled the battery to do a reset last night after a lockup and today I'm getting notifications everytime I get a new email. it never used to do this and i figured it was just cause I didn't use the gmail. now I'm thinking that it just might be one of the background tasks that I was always killing. I recently switched to home++ and I didn't use the built in task killer all day. so I guess my question is, does anyone know which background task would control this so I don't kill it? also, is there a place to go in the settings to change the led color for email alerts?
View 1 Replies View RelatedFinally got launcher pro to work. It actually seems slower than sense.... anyone else experience this? More specifically, opening menus is not as smooth and switching screens is a little choppy. Also... I do not get notifications on my sms and email icons when i have a new message or a email. I get it in my task bar but not on the actual icon, where it would usually tell me how many new emails or messages I have...
View 3 Replies View RelatedGoogled this issue and can't seem to find the resolution. I am using the Gmail app which came pre-installed on the phone. I have entered my account details, I can send emails but I don't get a notification when I receive an email to my Gmail Inbox. I have checked the settings and I have setup a ringtone and selected the option to flag up an icon in the notification bar. However the only way I know I have an email is if I open the app. I have a task manager and Gmail is on the ignore list.
View 5 Replies View RelatedToday I woke up and discovered I was not getting email notifications on my Droid anymore. If I go to the Gmail app they are in there as unread but I'm not getting any kind of notification that I actually have new email unless I go in and manually check. Is anyone else having this problem or knows of a solution? This is getting to be an annoying problem.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI know this has most likely been discussed many times. But I am looking for a decent email widget.
At the moment I am using the default htc email widget, however when ever I read an email from my gmail account it doesnt update the read status so it still shows as unread.
I would like one that would update the read status and possible the support for unified inbox so I can see new mail from hotmail account and gmail.
I don't think there is, but maybe someone knows how. Does anyone know if there is a way to turn on sounds on gmail notifications. I want to be able to still receive notifications popups, but I don't want sound to play on them. I know I can turn off sounds on all notifications but I only want to on Gmail.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to turn off the LED notification for Gmail? I went into the LED options and unchecked "Email," but I'm not sure if that's just for the "Email" app itself, and not Gmail. I still get the LED flash when I have new Gmail, but it doesn't seem to happen *every* time! I still want the notification icon to appear, so I don't want to turn off Gmail notification altogether. I already turned off sound, now I just need to turn off the LED.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using only the stock Gmail client that comes on the phone. I have 2 emails running thru there under "accounts". My issue is that I have other people who access the accounts as well (from desktop computers), and I need to be notified when they send emails. So what I can't find is how to get notifications of sent mails from my own accounts.I had this on my blackberry curve, where I would be notified of that.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have had my desire for a few months now and I love it. But since yesterday I have had a problem with my gmaila nd google talk.
The notifications are not coming through on gmail when I get a mail and when I go into the inbox it wont update manually either.
Also this morning I discovered that I cant get into google talk anymore, it simply will not even open. Everything was working fine up till yesterday. Is there a problem with google at the moment I don't know about?
I just got a Motorola Droid and I'm greatly pleased with it, but I'm having one minor problem with the Gmail app that's tedious and slightly annoying. I wanted to see if anyone else has the same problem and how you've fixed it. Whenever I get a new email, the notification appears properly. I click it, it takes me to the email. The notification stays there and does not go away like it should. I have to go back to the notification again and either clear notifications or access the email a second time. Any ideas as to why I'm getting two of the exact same notifications?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI get hundreds of emails every day and I currently get a notification but no audio tone or vibrate as it would be going crazy. This is how I want my general email notifications set up. So that part is fine. What I do want however is for starred messages to play a tone/vibrate similar to my text messages. I went into Gmail and then Manage Labels within the menu and I confirmed that 'Starred' is set to sync all and ring, vibrate, notify once. This to me seems like it should be notifying the way I just described that I'm looking for but there is no different notification for starred messages the way I had hoped. What am I doing wrong here?
View 1 Replies View RelatedUsing handcent and/or the stock messaging app/gmail, I'm not getting a notification sound or vibration that I have a new message/email. All of the settings are right...I've even done a "test notification" in handcent, and it makes a notification sound and vibration. Any ideas? This just started occuring after the latest update.I'm rooted with the new 3.29 update.
View 2 Replies View RelatedCan't seem to get my settings right to only get one notification per new email. I only have one account (Gmail) but get two notifications.
I tried unchecking Gmail from the general sync settings, but then I don't get any notifications.Anyone having a similar problem, anyone have any suggestions? Here's what my ideal set-up would be: notification in bar and a vibrate as soon as a new email comes in.Really enjoying my switch from WebOS to Android, but can't get some of the setting quite right...
Does anyone know how to set it so that my Android phone only notifies me when I get a message in my "Priority Inbox" (the new feature Google just launched in case you don't know what it is)? With my email I receive a bunch of newsletters, so instead of being notified every time one of them arrives I'd like to be notified only when messages in my Priority Inbox arrive.Being able to be alerted to messages with certain labels only would also work.

View 20 Replies View RelatedI did the manual update to 2.0.1 this morning and just now realized that I wasn't getting any incoming email notifications for Gmail. I sent myself a test message from another account and it did not show up on my droid. i went into accounts and manually synced it and now all is well. So, if you notice this issue after the update, just manually sync your accounts and see if that solves it.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI'm thinking they are problems with the apps. Both Facebook and Gmail apps have notifications checked off to show when new messages are received but they never put a notification in my notification panel of my phone or sound a tone or vibrate even tho they are set to.
