Android : FTP Apps - Log In To A Server And Get - Put Files

Jul 23, 2010

I'm looking for something that would allow me to log in to a server and get and put files. On my PC I can set up a connection with My Network Places " or whatever it's called. Then I can log in and drag/drop cut/paste between computers. Something like that would be ideal. I have Astro File Manager and its promo description says it has FTP abilities but I've looked through all the documentation and can't find anything about it. I see other FTP apps in the market but have a hard time understanding the description of what they do. What I do understand sounds more like it sets my Droid up as an FTP server, which isn't what I'm looking for.

Is there something out there that does what I'm looking for?

General :: Access Files On VPN Server?

Jul 26, 2010

I have a PPTP VPN connection that I use from time to time to access files on my Windows server at work when I am at home on my laptop or on another computer. It works great... I just map the drive in windows and bingo, my files are there.

So, I was excited when I set my VPN connection up on my Samsung Captivate (it is rooted, if it matters). I set everything up, and it connected on the first try. I sat there and looked at the screen and thought, "okay, what do I do now?"

Perhaps I am missing the boat on this whole VPN for Android thing, but is there a way to access the files on a VPN server? I have the ability to map the drives on a PC, but I can not find a spot to do it on the Android.

I've rebooted, pulled the battery, cleared the cache, I even tried uninstalling the market updates; figuring that it would connect and I could re-update, but nothing has worked.

HTC Incredible :: Unable To Move Files With Phone Apps

Sep 11, 2010

I was trying to free up space for my phone apps to run, by moving music files from the /emmc/music folder to my SD card. I succeded only when I resorted to using my PC connection, when both Astro and ES Explorer gave me "files cannot be moved" errors. I would prefer not to have done it this way, when I could have made use of such apps, but some part of the system is set against this. My phone isn't rooted, but I doubt that is the reason, as my PC was able to access files under /emmc (but not /system), and move them to my SD card. With my phone apps it's different, in that I cannot perform any operations at all under the root, not even copy (but I can look) Please help if you can!

General :: Note 2 - Apps Can't Detect MicroSD Files

Dec 13, 2013

I have a problem on my galaxy note II GT-N7100, running Paranoid Android 4.0 beta, android 4.4.1

Ever since I've upgraded to KitKat, some of my apps don't detect data on external micro SD card. Most noticeably quick office, the bards tale. As most of my files are stored on micro SD this is very annoying. I can access those files using es file explorer but it would be better if apps could detect them as well. My external SD card pathway should be mnt/media_rw/sdcard1 but that's empty and I get invalid file path error.

I can access the ext sd by storage/sdcard01 though. I've tried to format my ext SD, edit platform.xls etc but no solution. So any clue how to make quockoffice access documents on external micro sd?

General :: Tool To Compare Versions Of APK Files With Installed Apps?

Mar 24, 2012

The problem is maintaining apps that were NOT installed from the Market, but from .apk files scattered in various directories on the SD card. What I need is a tool that combines the functionality of an app manager like Easy Installer together with details of all currently-installed apps: In a single big list sorted by app name, I'd like to see the installed version (if any), plus every available .apk file and the version it contains. That would make it SO much easier to know if I need to update installed apps with a newer version, and to delete multiple .apk files of outdated versions.

I've seen lots of apps (including the Apps menu built into Android Settings) to view the installed apps and their version info -- and also lots of apps to scan the whole SD card for .apk files and display the actual app info (name, version, etc.) vs. just the filenames. What's missing is an easy way to compare all these.
