Android :: Jar Files Shared By Multiple Apps

Oct 9, 2009

If there are multiple apps using the same jar file, it makes sense NOT to package the jar in EACH app. However since the jar file cannot be pre-installed on the device, what are other alternatives for developer.

Android :: How To Access Shared Data / Settings Across Multiple Application?

Apr 17, 2009

Now I have 2 activities that would simultaneously access one data/ settings. However, two kind of solution can be applied after I study from the Android Developer's Guild.One is ContentProvider, The discription in guild is as: "Content providers store and retrieve data and make it accessible to all applications. They're the only way to share data across applications; there's no common storage area that all Android packages can access."and another is SharedPreferences, "To use preferences that are shared across multiple application components (activities, receivers, services, providers), you can use the underlying Context.getSharedPreferences() method to retrieve a preferences object stored under a specific name."

Android :: Shared Preference Listener Being Called Multiple Times When I Change A Pref

May 31, 2010

I've written an app with 3 tabs. Each tab has the same list view with different data sources. I have setup SharedPreferences in the tabhost activity, but I put my onSharedPreferenceChangeListener method in my listactivity. When I change a preference, my listener gets called and it updates my database. This is all working. However, if I change the data in tab 1, it calls my listener once. If I change the data for tab 2 it calls it twice and if I change the data in tab 3 it calls it three times. Any idea why it works this way? I guess I could setup my shared prefs in my listactivity and that might avoid the issue, but I'm curious why my listener is called multiple times if it's in a different tab.

General :: Automatic Clearing Cache And Changes To Files And System For Tablet Shared To Public

Mar 21, 2014

I'm looking for a method or an application for android tablet, which allows me to quickly reset the device deleting any data (from the Internet cache, and the cache to the photos of the various programs such as facebook, twitter etc ...) and that does not allow any modification of the operating system. I need this solution because I have a restaurant and I want to put a tablet on each table for guests to make him see the menu (full of photos and videos), surf the internet and play with the kids.

is there an app that allows this? or is there a quick way to do this, such as a multiaccount management ? I remember, for example, that for windows there are applications that completely erase any unauthorized modification, files and cache, at the time you restart the operating system.

Android :: Playing Multiple Audio Files

Oct 1, 2010

I think I should know this, but my mind has gone blank. I'm making an app that has a few hundred small sound files and I want it to play a certain file dependent on a String I pass to the function. Where I hit the brick wall is getting the resId of the sound file.

Android :: Need To Use MediaPlayer - Multiple Sound Files

Mar 10, 2010

I need to use MediaPlayer to play some sounds, as they were too large in size for the SoundPool class.

The constructor takes a single sound file. I have, potentially, around 20 files that I want to play, randomly and instantly, like sounds in a game.

Do I have to create a new MediaPlayer object for each sound? i.e...

MediaPlayer mp1 = MediaPlayer.create(context, R.raw.sound1); MediaPlayer mp2 = MediaPlayer.create(context, R.raw.sound2); MediaPlayer mp3 = MediaPlayer.create(context, R.raw.sound3); MediaPlayer mp4 = MediaPlayer.create(context, R.raw.sound4);

That seems expensive...

How To Handle Multiple Property Files With Android

Mar 26, 2012

I would like to have multiple property files checked in to my project that each define the same properties but for different environments. For instance, a development one and an operational one that each point to a different server.

Ex. myapp.properties.dev
-> server.host=1.2.3.4
-> server.port=8080
myapp.properties.ops
-> server.host=5.6.7.8
-> server.port=8081

I would like to have some way when building my android project to an apk to specify which property file to include and rename it to just myapp. properties.

Android :: Use Multiple Files To Store String Values

Jun 23, 2009

Is it possible to store strings values in multiple files? Eg, strings.xml, strings1.xml, strings2.xml etc.

I do not mean localized versions of the same file - those multiple files should contain different string ids in the same language, so in code they would be refered like: R.strings1.my_string_1 R.strings1.my_string_2 R.strings2.my_string_3 etc. So, "strings1", "strings2", "strings3" would be a kind of namespace for them.

Or, another way is to have multiple R classes inside one project, which would deal with different stringsXXX.xml files.

Like, currently we can refer to "my.name.space.R" and to "android.R" at the same time, so is it possible to have: android.R my.name.space1.R my.name.space2.R etc

At the same time inside single project?

Android :: Android - Use One SQLiteOpenHelper Class For Multiple Database Files

Nov 20, 2010

My app uses two databases (separate files). To handle these databases I have created two Helper classes which extend SQLiteOpenHelper, one for each database.

I am now going to add a third database and wonder whether I need to create yet another Helper class (and if I used a 4th and a 5th database would I need even more Helper classes), or can I use the same Helper class for multiple databases?

The problem that I see with trying to use just one Helper class is that I can't see how to pass the name of the individual database files to the Helper. At present the name of the database is hard-coded as a Static field of each of the Helper classes, but if I had only one Helper class I would need to be able to pass the different names in to the Constructor when creating the separate Helper objects; the problem is that the SQLiteOpenHelper Constructor seems to be called by Android with just one parameter: the Context.

Android :: Silent Uninstall Of Multiple Apps

Oct 12, 2010

Had android phone for about three weeks. Samsung Galaxy S (T-Mobile UK) Loving it to bits, but as per usual there have to be "but's". so, BUT, i hate uninstallation procedure and how you cannot uninstall stuff without going through millions of annoying "are you sure", "done", "ok" buttons. It's a problem because, as should be expected, i jumped into app downloading pretty deep. So now i have boatloads of stuff needing uninstallation and the process put me to sleep yesterday, very literally. I haven't even gone fifth of the way to intended uninstallation target. Got some apps that supposedly do batch uninstall, but you still have to mash, "uninstall" and "done" buttons for every single uninstalled app, which kind of defeats "batch uninstallation" purpose. Any ideas on the app, where i can select, push "uninstall" and forget about the rest? I do understand the risks, btw, you dont have to tell me.

Android :: Purchased Apps On Multiple Devices?

Mar 20, 2010

I have a question about the way the Android market handles purchased apps.I've seen in other posts where if you upgrade to a new phone, your purchased apps will follow you.But how about if you use more than one Android device? For instance, later this year I may get an Android tablet. Presumably the apps I purchased on my Droid will downloadable on the tablet. But will they remain downloadable on my Droid? And if I purchase an app on the tablet, will it also be downloadable on my Droid?It seems to me that if the apps are associated with your account, then you should be able to download them on multiple devices.I was just wondering if anyone has actually tried and confirmed this.

Android : Multiple Apps Use Same Content Provider

Jul 22, 2010

I am developing a set of apps that are distinguished only in certain brandings (think different sports teams); however, I am running into a problem where I am using one Library project for all of the specifically branded apps and want to use the same ContentProvider for all of them. When I created the ContentProvider I declared the AUTHORITY as a constant in the class (per the dev example code) and I am using the same authority in every specific app in the manifest files. It looks like I can't use the same authority across every app as I get this error when trying to install a second app (I install one branded one just fine but the second install):

WARN/PackageManager(66): Can't install because provider name com.xxx.Provider (in package com.xxx) is already used by com.zzz

I've tried several approaches but none of them seem to work. One idea that I haven't done yet, was to create a library jar and just omit the Provider class I have and customize it in each specific app. Any ideas on how to get around this problem without resorting to that?

Android :: App Appears Multiple Times In Recent Apps List

Aug 26, 2010

A number of users of my app have reported that on the Nexus One, running Froyo 2.2, the app appears multiple times in the 'Recent Apps' list that is displayed when you long press the home button. Personally, I have not been able to replicate the issue. Have tried killing the app with a task killer then restarting it to see if that would cause the app to appear more than once on the list. Also tried spawning multiple thread from within an activity in the app, but still no go. I have also tested on Droid phones running 2.2 as well as on the 2.2 emulator but to no avail. It is curious that only Nexus One Froyo users experience the issue. The app has one main launcher activity, about 30 different activities and is divided into 4 main tasks to help manage the activity stack. The app also has an IntentService for running network operations in the background. Is there any know scenario that could cause an app to appear multiple times in the 'Recent Apps' list? Is the 'Recent Apps' list populated based on the app package name e.g. com.mycompany.myappname or based on the tasks defined in the application manifest file?

Multiple Activities Showing As Apps?

Sep 1, 2012

My Background. Currently I am a .NET Developer working mainly with databases. Taking an interest in Android development by creating my first app. To understand it all, I am just trying to create a data collection application.

For example, collecting user information. My main activity will show a list of users and a button to add a new user. So, I created a new activity for the add a new user form.

I am using eclipse, with the normal AVD (ARM (armeabi-v7a)). I can successfully take the user to the add new form, no real issues with that. However, when I run the app in the AVD, I see my main activity (or the actual app) and the add new user activity as an app.

Is there some way to define the main activity for the app?
