Android : EditText Resize Problem Error

Apr 24, 2010

I have an Edittext view that works fine if the phone is in portrait position with and without the onscreen softkeyboard. But if it's flipped to landscape it works fine when the softkeyboard isn't there. But when it's there the Edittext view suddenly changes so that all the text in the Edittext view is on one line. Is there some settings I can do to fix this or is it just a bug for me?

Android :: How To Automatically Resize An EditText Widget With Some Attributes In TableLayout

Apr 28, 2010

I have a layout issue. What I do is this:

CODE:..............

Class "NoteElement" extends TableRow. The 1st row just consists of a blank ImageView as a placeholder and an EditText to enter text. NoteElement's constructor looks like this:

CODE:..............

Method addTextField() specifies the attributes for the EditText widget:

CODE:..............

So far, so good. But my problem occurs as soon as the available space for the chars is depleted. The EditText does not resize itself but switches to a single line EditText.

I am desperatly looking for a way in which the EditText resizes itself in its height dynamically, being dependant on the inserted text length.

Android :: To Make EditText Look Like TextView But Still Behave Like EditText

May 17, 2009

I want an EditText to look like TextView but still behave like EditText. I've tried applying TextView style to my EditText in my layout.xml file, like this:

CODE:............

But I get an error within xml editor: "Error: No resource found that matches the given name (at 'style' with value '@android:style/ Widget_TextView')." It is strange because @android:style/ Widget_TextView definitively exists - I double checked it in code via android.R.style.Widget_TextView. Another strange thing is that I don't get android:style offered in the xml editor while typing? There is android:id, android:text and everything else.. but not android:style?

I consider the hard way (making EditText look like TextView) to be: extending EditText and overriding it's onDraw method.

Android :: ScrollView With EditText - Scrolling In EditText

May 14, 2010

Our app (WordPress for Android) uses a ScrollView for the new blog post view. The issue is that if a user writes a lengthy blog post in the EditText, they are unable to scroll inside of the EditText because the ScrollView seems to be taking over the scrolling action, even when you are in the EditText.

Here's the layout XML (the EditText in question is @id/content):

Android :: Placing A TextView Before EditText Element In Android Layout XML Causes EditText Not To Show

Jul 29, 2010

Every time I put a TextView before an EditText element in a LinearLayout, the EditText does not show. When I don't, it does.

I've narrowed the problem down to the TextView's layout_width attribute. If I give it "wrap_content", it works, but doesn't "block" down, and it appears on the same line as the EditText.

Android :: Android - EditText And Button - When Click Button - Unfocus EditText And Hide Soft Keyboard

Jun 24, 2010

CODE:............

I have this at the top of my application. When the application starts, the EditText is orange highlighted and has a cursor in it; when the EditText is tapped, the soft keyboard pops up. The user uses it to type into the EditText.

However, when they click the Button, my onClick method fires and does everything it's supposed to, however the soft keyboard stays on screen and the EditText is still highlighted with its cursor.

I also have, at the top of the Button onclick: findViewById(R.id.name).clearFocus();

In spite of this, the EditText does not seem to clear its focus. How do I make the button actually act as if it is submitting the form?

Also, I do not transition to a different Activity on the click of the Button. I suppose that is the typical case, and probably the reason why they don't bother hiding the keyboard. However I want to keep the search box and button at the top of the screen, so I just dynamically fill and add views to the screen when the Button is pressed. How can I achieve my desired behavior?

Android :: Resize Based On Orientation.

Feb 12, 2009

I need to have my view resize itself based on the orientation. After extensive googling (maybe i was using the wrong terms) I could find nothing telling me how to detect when the orientation was changed. Here is my layout file: how do I have it automatically resize itself? I want each item (the EditText and the WebView) to fill half the screen (not counting the title/notification bars). I set the height to absolute and not wrap_content because wrap_content defaults to 1 line for EditText and nothing for WebView. and fill_parent has the EditText on top of the WebView.

Android : How To Detect A Layout Resize?

Nov 13, 2010

Dianne Hackborn mentioned in a couple threads that you can detect when a layout as been resized, for example, when the soft keyboard opens or closes. Such a thread is this one... http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/thread/d318901586313204/2b2c2c7d4bb04e1b However, I didn't understand her answer: "By your view hierarchy being resized with all of the corresponding layout traversal and callbacks." Does anyone have a further description or some examples of how to detect this? Which callbacks can I link into in order to detect this?

Android :: Virtual Keyboard - Resize All Popups Etc

May 22, 2009

We have got all our own edit boxes etc. so we call the virtual keyboard from SDK 1.5 in the followng way (when the use selects one of our edit/text boxes):

Context c = getApplicationContext(); InputMethodManager inputManager = (InputMethodManager) c.getSystemService( Context.INPUT_METHOD_SERVICE ); inputManager.showSoftInput(ourCanvasInstance, 0);

This works fine and even populates our edit boxes automatically upon key entry, we can dismiss it by calling:

inputManager.toggleSoftInput(0, 0);

The problem we have now is that we need to know the size of the virtual keyboard so that we can resize all our popups etc to fit within the area of the screen that is not covered by the virtual keyboard. Is there anyway of getting the height of the default virtual keyboard? I have noticed that android.inputmethodservice.Keyboard has access to the height but I can't seem to find anyway to access this, does anyone happen to know any useful pointers to be able to access the height of the VK?
