Android :: Get Name Of The Owner Of Phone - Email Sender
Jan 28, 2009
I want my application to send emails.
The user can pick arecipient from the contacts.
Then I generate the body text of the email and send it to the email app ( using something like http://androidguys.com/?p=3100#comment-5168).
The email body looks something like :
------------------------- Hi {recipientname}!
Please click the following link :
[url]
If you click that like, you will live forever.
{sendername} ---------------------------------
"{recipientname}" is replaced by the name of the recipient that I get from the Contacts via Contacts.People.
For convenience, I'd like to replace "{sendername}" with the name of the sender, that means the name of the owner of the phone. (As stored in the email app, under Account Settings -> General Settings -> Your name) So, obviously that name is stored somewhere, ...
My question:
Is there any way to access this name via a content provider ? Or is there any other way to get a string (e.g. "John Doe" ) with the name of the owner/user of the device ?

I have android.permission.READ_OWNER_DATA but I can't find any reliable code that would explain how can I read email address of device's owner. And please don't turn this into 'why you wanna do that' thread.

This app allows people to see your contact info in case you lose your phone. Seems like kind of a necessity if you're using the security lock. Otherwise how will people know how to find you?But before you set it up it says the app may cause a crash if you're on an HTC android phone. Question: Has anyone tried this one on the Eris? Do you have any other suggestions for a similar app?

Is there a way to get owner info on the lockscreen? For example, I'd like it to read "If found, please return this phone to MyName. Phone: xxx-xxx-xxxx, Email: MyName@gmail.com". Can this be done with the stock HTC lockscreen? Are there others that are as secure, but provide this extra functionality? I'm rooted, if that makes a difference.

Is it possible to have the sender's name/number displayed on the lock screen when a text is received? I've got handcent installed and I've got it set up so that when I receive a text, the quick reply box pops up for 10/20 seconds. But if I'm away from my phone and I later check to see if I've received a text, the only indication I have is a small icon on the navigation bar.

My mom wanted an Android phone and decided to go with the Droid X. She really likes the phone so far, even though there is a bit of a learning curve. The problem that is frustrating us both is that in order to sign into Google's Android Market place you must enter/confirm your gmail account. We enter her account information, which is 100% correct, and then it brings us to a captcha box. I've entered about 30 different captcha's and each time it starts to connect to Google's servers and then brings us right back to another captcha. There will be clear captcha's and I will be very careful I'm entering the correct characters and then it will still not work.Does anyone have a solution to this? Should I chalk this up as a server problem and wait and try it again tomorrow?I understand this isn't necessarily a Droid X issue as it is an Android 2.2 issue.

I'm adding Android C2DM to a Android library project. I started with the com.google.android.c2dm package that is included with JumpNote and Chrome To Phone. In order to use this package, you have to subclass the C2DMBaseReceiver service which takes the Sender Id as an argument to it's constructor. In JumpNote, this argument is initialized using a hard-coded static variable in a config class. However, in an Android library project, which may be used by multiple concurrently running apps I don't think I can use a hard-coded static variable (that is, I believe it could lead to problems when/if multiple apps are trying to access/modify the static variable). I tried to think of a way to initialize the Sender Id without using a static variable and am stumped so far.The obvious solution would be to use the Manifest or a Resource string or a combination of the 2. For example, in strings.xml I might have a "ac2dmSender" string, which is accessed in a meta-data child of the C2DMReceiver service declaration in the manifest. However, it seems that you cannot get a reference to the PackageManager or ResourceManager from a static context, so there is no way for me to then retrieve the meta data in such a way as to pass it in to the constructor of C2DMBaseReceiver.

I am using Gmail sender function defined here to send a mail to the predefined mail id. But my problem is that I want to embed more text into the body of my mail. The Gmail sender is only accepting one sting to be embedded into the body of the mail. Can anyone tell me how to embed more strings into the body of the mail. If Gmail sender is not efficient method to send a mail then please suggest me an alternative with an example.

I'm using ChompSMS and was wondering if it was possible to have the sender's name appear somewhere on the lock screen, when an SMS is received? I notice that the native messaging app has the sender's name below the unlock bar on the lock screen, but using Handcent or ChompSMS seems to get rid of this.

The best I could do so far was mute a conversation. I don't want to permanently block but I want to be able to hide all emails from certain senders at least temporarily to avoid distractions.
I searched and saw it's possible to create a filter (or it was in the past, anyway) in the desktop settings . an easier way via the mobile app.

I received a couple of text messages from Vodafone today, and the Messages app showed the sender as one of my personal contacts! It happened to be the last contact that I edited in the People app, and seems like a bug. Has anyone else seen this? this is on an unlocked Desire bought from mobiles.co.uk.

Ever since the upgrade to Jellybean 4.3 (I've got a Samsung Galaxy S3), my messaging app doesn't auto-open to the last sender when I swipe it from the lock screen. Instead, it goes to the previous sender, which can be annoying if you're not paying attention and you reply to that sender instead of the one with the new message.
How do I change that back to the way it was?
