I really like installing apps, testing them, and removing them. Does installing apps and then uninstalling them end up making your phone slower? I don't have my Incredible yet but I don't want to install all these apps to just test if it will end up slowing my phone down when I remove them! I know Windows does get slower by installing and uninstalling apps, OS X not so much. How does Android fare?

What's the best way to back up Android phones prior to a complete wipe / re-install of new OS? (back up of sms, apps, data for apps, call log, etc etc...) Early this year it was My Backup, and Astro File manager I believe. Is there something newer or better these days?

View 1 Replies View RelatedFor the past couple weeks I've had the problem of the phone taking a long time to turn off. This started shortly after installing the 2.1 update. Tonight I turned the phone off and nearly ten minutes later I finally heard the shutdown sound. Sometimes it takes 3 minutes, sometimes later. I have found that if I don't hear the shutdown sound I can press the power button and the screen will come back on then it will shutdown.
Is anyone else having this problem? I'm not really sure what would be causing this problem because I've checked it before and haven't had any extra running services other than the keyboard and voice input services when it was turning off.
My main phone is my new HTC Sensation, and I have all my regular apps installed on there (via the Android market, using my Google account).
My old phone - Rooted HTC Hero - I keep as a spare, and use only when I am travelling overseas, to put a local SIM Card into.
My question is, can I install apps on the spare phone on an ad-hoc basis, without using my regular Google account?
Ideally, downloading .apk files for Android market apps?
As it's only a spare, and mainly used for voice not data, i don't really want all the same apps as on my main phone, just some of them -things like Go SMS, JuiceDefender, etc
Also currently, the plan I have with the local SIM card I'm currently using has no data - only voice. So apart from connecting it via my laptop, I could only install apps using free wifi.
I got my x on launch day no root no 2.2 all stock .well i've been noticing its getting slower don't have much installed only about 10 apps. The browser will start and then stop when u tell it to go somewere then after a dew sec it takes back off. Text message when u bring it up it takes about 10 sec to load then another lag to start typing and there wont be any old messages in box and when they do finally come up u can't scroll threw the old ones.

View 4 Replies View RelatedA while back I mentioned that running the imported p2p codebase I have on the emulator (on a fairly powerful laptop with plenty of mem and a fast processor) was pretty slow. I blamed all that on the codebase and in fact I was able to profile it and make it much lighter. Well still the overall app performance is slow --- and I am finding that most apps I run on the emulator are fairly slow. Is this a common trend? I do expect emulators, who are by no means a real device, to have such processing delays but are they in general this slow? Any metrics or any other feedback from anyone that depict the factor of slowdowns you would expect on an emulator vs the real device? I know a lot of this are machine dependent as well but consider an idle powerful machine. And regarding memory - I am loading Eclipse with close to 1G to be able to run the emulator and its basic services - is that normal?

I wish to install applications that I download legally from the internet.I do not agree to the android-market licence agreement and have clicked on "decline". I only wish to install apps that I get elsewhere because I do not approve of the remote-kill clause in the market licence.All tutorials on how to install a downloaded app involve me first installing "app installer" from the market. That cannot be right. View 13 Replies View Relatednot sure if this is the right forum for this but i just switched from droid incredible to droid x. it is rooted running 2.2. i downloaded some apps from the market no problem, but now whenever i try it downloads to 100% and then that's it, it doesn't bother trying to install. installing an application through astro works though. i ahve no clue what's going on, rebooted a couple times already.

It then deleted all of my contacts.So I deleted Facebook, re-stored all my contacts and reloaded Facebook. However, now it gets as far as installing and it never stops. It just stays on Installing.However, the FB app works fine on the phone itself.Is this a Market glitch? Is there anyway I can purge it from out of my downloads section?

I am trying to figure out how to (1) look at the file system (with a file manager type of interface), and (2) install an app on it (specifically one that I am developing). It seems like all this should be obvious, but the netbook isn't something that I can just hook up to my SDK using USB so apps don't install on it the same way that they do on (say) a Droid. The environment seems to be relatively closed compared to other devices. Maybe there is a way to ssh into it over the network?

I have never used an app as slow as my own. I don't get an ANR dialog, though I think I probably should get getting one. I have no idea how to make this application run like every other app I've ever used -- Not freezing. Is it not a good idea to have one HttpClient and keep a static reference to it for all Activities that want to use it? I used to create a new one each time, and thought that changing it to one sped it up. None of my AsyncTasks ever end. If I go to Activity A -> B -> C -> D the first time it will be smooth. I can press back but when I get back to A, its completely frozen, not responding to anything. That when I took that screenshot. I really have no clue what I am doing wrong. Should I manually kill my AsyncTasks on Activity.onPause()?

I have had to charge the battery twice today because of this. Is there anyway that I can stop these installs? I am new to android so please be gentle.
