I have a technical issue which means I can't install from the market. If there's an app I need, is there a way I get hold of the .apk file another way, and then install it after sending it to my email account?

I have recently acquired a Samsung Galaxy android phone. I wish to install applications that I download legally from the internet.I do not agree to the android-market licence agreement and have clicked on "decline". I only wish to install apps that I get elsewhere because I do not approve of the remote-kill clause in the market licence. All tutorials on how to install a downloaded app involve me first installing "app installer" from the market. That cannot be right. I cannot be forced to accept the market licence agreement in order to be able to install non market apps.Any suggestions on how I might get apps installed without ever clicking on "accept" on the market's licence agreement?I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty. ANY suggestions welcome. I will not accept a remote kill switch. My files are my files.

not sure if this is the right forum for this but i just switched from droid incredible to droid x. it is rooted running 2.2. i downloaded some apps from the market no problem, but now whenever i try it downloads to 100% and then that's it, it doesn't bother trying to install. installing an application through astro works though. i ahve no clue what's going on, rebooted a couple times already.

Anyone ever had this happen? Downloaded an update after the 2.1 upgrade and I sync'd my contacts with FB. It then deleted all of my contacts. So I deleted Facebook, re-stored all my contacts and reloaded Facebook. However, now it gets as far as installing and it never stops. It just stays on Installing. However, the FB app works fine on the phone itself. Is this a Market glitch? Is there anyway I can purge it from out of my downloads section?

I really like installing apps, testing them, and removing them. Does installing apps and then uninstalling them end up making your phone slower? I don't have my Incredible yet but I don't want to install all these apps to just test if it will end up slowing my phone down when I remove them! I know Windows does get slower by installing and uninstalling apps, OS X not so much. How does Android fare?

I have an Acer Aspire netbook which dual boots Android and XP. I am trying to figure out how to (1) look at the file system (with a file manager type of interface), and (2) install an app on it (specifically one that I am developing). It seems like all this should be obvious, but the netbook isn't something that I can just hook up to my SDK using USB so apps don't install on it the same way that they do on (say) a Droid. The environment seems to be relatively closed compared to other devices. Maybe there is a way to ssh into it over the network?

What's the best way to back up Android phones prior to a complete wipe / re-install of new OS? (back up of sms, apps, data for apps, call log, etc etc...) Early this year it was My Backup, and Astro File manager I believe. Is there something newer or better these days?

Lately I've been downloading a lot of apps and trying them out, only to find out 8/10 times i don't want them anymore. I've noticed a few leave behind folders on my SDcard that I had to delete. Just wondering if that's all they left or maybe something left in the system too.

I have updated all my apps earlier today and ever since there has been 6 or 7 apps that are constantly showing the status of installing in the android market. I have had to charge the battery twice today because of this. Is there anyway that I can stop these installs? I am new to android so please be gentle. I have a samsung galaxy s and so far have tried uninstalling the apps it says are installing, clearing the cache, force closing the market, switching phone off and also performing a battery pull.

Since the Evo has just been announced by Sprint that all of us employees / club members can now get the Evo starting tonight at midnight est., I would like to ask all of the forum users where we should all start. I know these forums will take off once all of these new users get their phones and have questions. Is there some basics that we should do before we install too many apps? Recommended first apps? Root or not?

I'm not sure if this is normal or not, but my phone slows down for a good 5-10 seconds after I download/install an app. It's virtually unusable for that time - it happens every time I download one.usually when the notification bar alerts me that it's finished downloading or installing.

Why isn't my apps installing to my SD card? Everytime I install an app, I see my internal storage free space decreasing. Is there a way to see if they're installing to SD?My phone is rooted with A2SD installed and I have a ext3 384MB ext3 partition. Am I missing something?Nevermind I figured it out, apps are indeed installing to SD, the reason why internal storage is decreasing is because of cache and other system data.

Since I flashed some of the 2.2 ROMs, I have noticed that installing/updating apps from the market is hit or miss. Right now, I have two apps that are fully downloaded but aren't installing for some reason. They are showing up in the market as 100% downloaded and just stuck on that. Any ideas? I'm running adrynalyne's Sense ROM.

So, I noticed this when the new Angry Birds Update game out (the one that added 45 new levels). Whenever I try to update this app, it downloads, but the installation always starts and just stops, saying the installation was incomplete. Of course, I went and took the next step, uninstalling, and trying to reinstall. Same problem. If I was looking at the Angry Birds screen on the market during this, it pops up Installation error Unknown reason-18 I ran into the same issue with Google Sky Map updating, and reinstalling. Same error message. Does anyone know what this error is?
