Android :: Installing Apps Without Market
Oct 21, 2009
I have recently acquired a Samsung Galaxy android phone. I wish to install applications that I download legally from the internet.I do not agree to the android-market licence agreement and have clicked on "decline". I only wish to install apps that I get elsewhere because I do not approve of the remote-kill clause in the market licence.All tutorials on how to install a downloaded app involve me first installing "app installer" from the market. That cannot be right. I cannot be forced to accept the market licence agreement in order to be able to install non market apps.Any suggestions on how I might get apps installed without ever clicking on "accept" on the market's licence agreement?I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty. ANY suggestions welcome. I will not accept a remote kill switch. My files are my files.

I have a technical issue which means I can't install from the market.If there's an app I need, is there a way I get hold of the .apk file another way, and then install it after sending it to my email account?

Since I flashed some of the 2.2 ROMs, I have noticed that installing/updating apps from the market is hit or miss. Right now, I have two apps that are fully downloaded but aren't installing for some reason. They are showing up in the market as 100% downloaded and just stuck on that. Any ideas? I'm running adrynalyne's Sense ROM.

I've found an app that is not on the market which i'd like to download but it is an .apk file. The site says to use HTC Sync which sounds easy on the HTC website but then says it's only available for Wildfire, not my Desire.Is there any easy way to get these apps that are apk files onto my phone?Sorry if this is a dumb question, but am only really now getting to grips with what this little thing can do and boy am I impressed! Actually jumped for joy when my google calender and phone synched together without me doing ANYTHING!

Before I ask I did search and found a bunch of different techniques for installing non-market apps. I haven't tried any, but wanted to find the easiest/newest method.I have files on my computer and I was going to use drop box to transfer them to my phone.When I open the files in drop box it gives me the "for security, your phone is set to block."What is the easiest method to fix this? I am planning to root, but I just got the phone today so I want to get a handle on it first.

The title basically says it, there are a handful of apps that I can not figure out how to re-download through App Brain or directly through the Market after installing the 2.2 update.And a few others, but those are the ones I paid for and would like to have now.Are these not compatible with Froyo? Or does anyone have an explanation for why they would be showing up as not found in the Market?

installing an Android app outside Android Market. I'm aware of SideLoad but dealing with some of our users may make that a difficult task.
I'm developing a simple Flash based Android training app using CS6 for a company I work for. I have plenty of experience with Flash but not with installing an Android app. Is there any way for our corporate website to install an Android app on an employees Samsung Galaxy phone, oh yeah it's an ATT service?

I am trying to register a Broadcast Receiver that catches "com.android.vending.INSTALL_REFERRER" intents launched by Android after an app is installed from the Market. However, I cannot use Google Analytics so I have created my own solution. I have added the following to my manifest file:
<receiver android:name="com.test.Receiver" android:exported="true">
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="com.android.vending.INSTALL_REFERRER" />
</intent-filter>
</receiver>
and created a basic BroadcastReceiver class:.........................

I understand there are two ways to distribute one's apps: 1) through the Market and 2) directly to the user. Now that my app is in beta, I would like to give it to a few of my users to test. But how? What I read on the web talks about installing SDKs, tweaking with many options and using an auxiliary app; I deem these to be well beyond the ability or patience of my users. Is there an easier way? What's the EASIEST?
It would be best if the user can simply navigate to the link and download it using their android phone. Is this possible? I am trying to figure out how to instruct my users to download and install it painlessly. (taking the SD card out for intermediate installation is not painless and is prohibitively intimidating). this is a keyboard that you need to invoke, twice, after you install it. Once through Settings> Languages and Keyboards, and the second time through tapping and holding on the text field and selecting. Oh and it's called MessagEase-beta

I'm new here.....I have the Samsung Fascinate and I had an app installed that was working fine. All of a sudden it just says installing and I can't do anything with it. I even uninstalled the offending app and it is still hung up on "installing" in the market...won't let me stop...won't let me cancel. I cleared the cache of the market in the manage apps section and that did nothing.

Is there a way to install apps without service to my Motorola Droid. See I have currently suspended my contract due to a deployment overseas. Obviously my Droid only works in the states, but I was wondering is there a way to install apps on my phone via usb and the inet connection on my laptop?

I have an app that was installed via Android Market. And so, the Android Market knows when new versions are out and notifies me of an update. Titanium Backup calls this the 'Market Link', not sure what else it could be called.
how would I go about 'disconnecting' the app from the Market? Deleting the market link as if it were side-loaded?
Yes, I know this means no more updates for the app etc. Which is actually what I'm after.
I'm using a SGS - DocRom V9.6 with Speedmod Kernel k13a

My Evo has been selectively updating my apps for the last two weeks.10 total so far. The market version I have is 1.82 and according to the market troubleshooting page the current version is 2.07 for anyone OVER Android 1.6. So is that my problem? I know its supose to auto update but I tried to force it by doing what the troubleshooting page says and nothing, still on 1.82. The only thing that seems to fix this is to uninstall then install it like its new. I've already lost progress on one game and don't feel like doing that again. Any suggestions? Sprint is no help cuz its a market issue.

I have another doubt on how to install the apps. As my handset is missing the Android Market icon in my mobile. So I downloaded to my pc and then copied to my mobile. This "7c02815a-e245-102d-a194-6ec07c99d928.apk" file for bluetooth file transfer and using data cable. I copied that file in my video folder (for self knowing folder I pasted) now I don't see that file in my mobile video folder. So how will I install? There are no icons like "Android Market", "Installer Application", or "Application Installer" etc. I am using Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 mini pro and 1.6 firmware.

I know my question answers but since there's a lot of you who really spend your time scrutinizing your rank, downloads and all, I'm trying it maybe someone came up with empiric science on this one :
Does anyone understood even bits of how the market ranks apps in the market ?
I usually don't look at stats but following another post on this topic, I counted my rank in my category ... 565 ... Ouch that hurts! Especially when half the apps in front of mine, are crap apps with less downloads and ratings as low as 1 star :).
Not that it would make a difference being rank 250 instead of 565...But this is humiliating a little :s
Since my app has been on the market for one month, i'm wondering if age matters ...
I know I should have asked in the market "black hole of hell " google group but the name says it all. And I'm sure some of you already figured out some of the black magic used by the Market to rank apps.

Twitter showed there was an update in Market last night, so naturally, I updated. After like an hour, I noticed it was still showing as "Installing" in Market. I turned off the phone and back on. Still showed "Installing" I went to sleep figuring it has to finish by the time I wake up.I tried uninstalling Twitter with AppBrain. Still shows "Installing" Rebooted my phone again.

I just installed cyanogen 6.0 on my htc hero cdma and now I have no market app. I dont have any file manager like astro where I can install apk files through the sdcard. Ive tried using the adb push command from my pc but it says that it couldnt because its a read-only file system. (lost me there!) Is it possible to install it by flashing a zip of it from recovery like a rom. Im kind of stuck here, I have no way of installing new apps....

I just installed Froyo in Kies. Everything went smoothly and the phone seems to work like a charm after installation. The only thing weird but not bad was that all the applications were in different order. BUT the first bad thing I noticed was that the Android Market application was gone! Is this normal? Can I get it back somehow?

I would like to install just Google Play (Market) without the other GApps. I tried a couple of APKs that I found floating around the forums, but none seem to work.
Are there some additional dependencies (like the Google account, for example) which I need to install in order to use Play? I am trying to avoid any Google synch and also don't need GMail, Talk, etc. Installing them just to remove them with Titanium or something seems counter-intuative.
