Android :: Do Body Gloves Affect Signal?

View 2 RepliesI want to reach out to others here before I take my Moment back to Best Buy to exchange it for another Moment.
My signal strength fluctuates wildly just sitting in the same spot. With the Hero I got a constant 5 of 6 bars, but the Moment will vary between 0 and 5 of 6 bars. But it's more complicated than that.
It seems that whenever the EVDO data kicks in, it causes the signal strength to drop to 0 or 1 bar. Once the data is idle, the EVDO indicator turns grey and then changes from EV(^v) to EV(D). At that point the single strength will return to 3 or 4 bars.
At times, though not as consistently or often, the EVDO connection will fall back to 1xRTT and will switch between them every few minutes. This will occur even when the signal strength bars are in the 3 to 4 range.
So, the my questions are...
Does the signal strength apply to the data signal or just the voice signal?
Is there any legitimate reason for the signal strength to vary wildly like I've described, even when sitting in the same recliner where the Hero had a constant 5 bar connection and data service that never wavered?
Is anyone else having signal strength and/or data service issues?
Should I exchange the Moment for another Moment or will I likely experience the same issue?
I have a mediaplayer object inside an activity that plays from mp3 files situated in the res/raw folder. The MediaPlayer.create(Context context, int resid) method is used to create and return a mediaPlayer object to play this track. What I have noticed is that when the activity is obscured by another activity and hence the "onStop()" method is called , the music continues to play. Can anyone explain why this occurs? I though that onStop would essentially freeze any actions taking place by objects associated with the activity, except for services etc
View 1 Replies View RelatedI like the idea of the Alliance, it is very logical. It raises a question for me though. How do they intend to run apps seamlessly across multiple operating systems? Will the apps all have to be developed in something like Java? I am studying mobile app development, targeting the Android OS, and using Java. I was about to order a load of books(eg hello android) on developing apps for Android today, but I worry the new Alliance platform/technology might render these books and my initial studies obsolete in some way.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI downloaded wall switch, its an app that will automatically switch your wallpaper for you. I had something like this on my pre and loved it. Basically you pick the folder you want it to pick the pictures from, and how often you want it to switch.
Now to the interesting side affect.. One of the settings is Processing method, your choices are auto, crop,or letterbox. If you leave it on auto it places your regular pictures as they should be viewed on your background. It does not force you to crop your picture and end up with a fuzzy picture!
I was super excited when i found this, for years ive had a folder with just pictures i liked to use as backgrounds on my phone. So obviously those pictures wouldnt show the way i would like them to on an android device.
So i figure if you dont want to switch your background but would like it to appear as it should without having to crop it, you could create a folder with 2 of the same picture in it and set it to switch between those...
You might even be able to mess around with the settings and get it to work with just one... im thinking that you may be able to set the switch interval to 0:00 or something like that, but im not sure on that..
Ive been trying to implement a limit to prevent the user from scaling the image too much in my multitouch zoom app. Problem is, when i set the max zoom level by dumping the matrix, the image starts to translate downward once the overall scale of the image hits my limit. I believe it is doing this because the matrix is still being affected by postScale(theScaleFactorX,theScaleFactorY,myMidpointX,myMidpointY) where theScaleFactorX/Y is the amount to multiply the overall scale of the image (so if the theScaleFatorX/Y is recorded as 1.12, and the image is at .60 of its origional size, the overall zoom is now .67). It seems like some sort of math is going on thats creating this translation, and was wondering if anyone knew what it was so i can prevent it from translating, and only allow the user to zoom back out.

If a the person does sthg happens inside the application. My problem for now is: How to figure out if a person turned around? I don't see an approach with gps as the person is not moving enough. So I thought about the compass or acceleration sensor but I have no clue how to manage that.

Every so often I will receive email on my Droid from a POP3 account where the subject line does not match the body of the e-mail. For example I will receive on my Droid an e-mail from Amazon confirming order shipment but the body of the e-mail will be an advertisement from Hertz, HP, etc. The Amazon e-mail body is not shown. If I look in Gmail online it is fine so this so this is only on the Droid.

I originally setup my Droid with my Google Apps account as primary. A few months ago I decided to buy a paid app in the Market and couldn't do so using my Google Apps account. Reluctantly, I added my Google Account as a secondary account on my phone, which allowed me to purchase apps in the Market. Now that I can finally use Google Checkout with my Google Apps account, I would like to remove my Google Account from my phone, since I'm tired of being prompted to select an account each time I create a new contact. Will removing my secondary account affect apps that are already installed? What about when updates become available for these apps in the Market?

View 18 Replies View RelatedI can get a few minutes of 4G signal at my home per day, but when it drops out and 3G takes over, the signal will flatline and boot me offline. My 3G speeds are usually around 56-150Kbps or less, and my 4G speeds are around 2.5 Mbps What would cause this ? According to WiMax location sites online, my nearest 4G tower is .52 mile away. I would think that if I actually get 4G signal, then 3G would be constant. Turning off 4G doesn't help either. Is there some setting that I could have turned off that would cause this ? View 1 Replies View RelatedI noticed a few days ago Friday that my battery all of a sudden started draining faster; a lot faster. I did a FDR Tuesday night and through most of the day Thursday it was much better. Thursday evening i started reinstalling apps to test if it was actually better and noticed as soon as i did that the phone was never sleeping again. My up time and awake time were almost the same as soon as i reinstalled everything. So last night I uninstalled everything again except for swype. I'm going to watch it today but I'm not sure what to expect. Have you seen swype affect your battery life.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm writing an android application that collects cell signal strengths. I am having trouble getting the "current" cell signal strength, but I don't have any problem getting the "neighboring" cell signal strengths. To get the current cell signal strength, I created a PhoneStateListener and implemented the onSignalStrengthChanged callback. It works, but not very well. It seems like the signal strength hardly ever changes, and resolution jumps to only a few numbers. I would accept the answer that the resolution of the signal strength hardware is coarse, but when I use the TelephonyManager's getNeighboringCellInfo() method, it works much better. The signal strength readings from neighboring cells change frequently, and they have much better resolution. So, how can I get the current cell signal strength in the same way that I am getting the neighboring cell strengths? It seems odd to me that the functionality of the neighboring cells is better than the current cell. Am I missing something here?I would also like to directly call a method from the telephony manager to get current cell strength, as opposed to a listener, if possible. If anyone knows how, please let me know.

View 2 Replies View RelatedVerizon's normal return policy is 30 days from date of purchase. Say you pre-ordered the Incredible online on April 19. Does that mean you have 30 days from April 19 to return the phone, or 30 days from the date it was shipped, or 30 days from the date you received it? Anybody know? Also, does Verizon actually have to have received the phone within 30 days for it to count as a valid return, or do you merely have to have shipped it back to Verizon within 30 days (and perhaps they receive it 31 or 32 days after purchase)?
