HTC EVO 4G :: Could Magnets Affect/ Damage TFT-LCD Screen?

Jun 2, 2010

I gave a leather holster to my cousin, since it looks like it won't fit the EVO and fits the iPhone perfectly... After 2 days, his screen has this line across the screen. Was this caused by the case I gave him, more specifically the magnets on the case? Will magnets from the leather case damage TFT-LCD screens?

HTC Incredible :: Will Have The Magnets In - Like MotoDroid

Apr 20, 2010

The moto droid has magnets in it in 2 different spots.

If you plug the moto droid into a desktop charger, the phone automatically goes into alarm clock mode.

And if you plug the moto droid into the car mount, it goes into nav/big button mode.

Will the incredible have this?

Or will it be regular incredible.. just like regular stormy.

The first one to figure out where i got "regular stormy",

HTC Desire :: Magnetic Flip Case - Screen Damage

Jul 18, 2010

I have a HTC Desire and it fits nicely inside a flip case, held closed with a magnet. I am no scientist but a good friend of mine, who is a scientist, seems to think that a magnet could damage the phone!

I have heard that they can mess with the internal compas (i didnt even know i had one until yesterday) but what about the motor in the lens, will this be damaged being an electro magnetic motor?

I am most worried about the screen being effected by a magnetic field always being near (even on) it.

Has anyone had any experience of a HTC Desire being messed up with a magnet or can anyone reassure me that the 3 ebay phone case is phone friendly?

Samsung Behold 2 :: Water Damage / Only Get Vibration And Sounds But No Screen

May 4, 2010

So I went to the beach with friends this weekend and had my phone in a ziploc bag along with other items. Well, it seems that one of my friends went into the bag to get something and had their hands completely wet. About one hour later I went to check the time on the phone and there was about two inches of water in it. I immediately removed the battery, SIM card and sd card and left it out to dry.

Got home some time later and did the rice trick and left it there for the entire weekend (just switched its position every 8 hours). Tried to turn it on this morning and it powers up, makes sounds and vibrates but the screen doesn't come on. If I touch the screen in some spots I still get vibration feedback and sounds but nothing else.

HTC EVO 4G :: Water Damage Strip Not Seen / Phone Turned On To Startup Screen Then Off

Sep 21, 2010

So this morning, I put my phone on a little pile of clothes on my bathroom sink. I take my shower, get out and it's still sitting there. I tool around for ten minutes, and of course, after sitting there perfectly for almost 25 minutes, I go to brush my teeth with the water running and doesn't it pick that 1 minute window to slide off into the water. It was in the water for maybe half second. It was not submerged or have water run on it. It was back down in the water. I grabbed it, immediately rubbed the water off and removed the back cover and battery. Everything was dry. I thought I dodged a bullet. I out the battery back in and restarted. I came back a minute later and it was off. I tried to restart, nothing. I plugged it in, and the charge indicator did not come back on. I pulled the battery again, and blew into where the battery connects and noticed water coming out! Not a lot, but it was there. It either got in through the HDMI or USB, or, more likely though the back of the kickstand.

Stupid me thought I got it all out, put the battery back in and tried again. This time it made it to the Sprint 4G screen then died. I put the phone in a bag of uncooked rice. When I got to work, I pulled it out and after shaking the rice out of it (let me tell you how much rice got into to phone!!), I used compressed air in it. I didn't see any more water. I put it back with the rice and am now just scared to death. Not sure how long I should wait to put the battery back in and try it. So, this is the second evo I had as I exchanged the first one for screen separation issues. I noticed that the first phone I had water damage indicators on the outside under the cover. Now, I don't see them. If they were still where they used to be, I'd be in the clear since it never got wet back there. The battery indicator is fine. Just can't find the other ones now and I'm scared to death that when I tried to restart I may have permanently ruined my phone and I have no insurance.

HTC Droid Eris :: Screen Not Fully Working After Water Damage

Jun 14, 2010

I dropped my phone in a drink and I took out the battery and I let the phone parts dry overnight in a bowl of dried rice. After putting the battery in the phone, the phone works.. It's just the touch screen part doesn't fully work. Everything on the touch screen is fine except for the home button, the clr button, the menu button, and the search button don't work. Usually when you press them they kind of vibrate but they don't know and they just don't press basically. Is there anyway to replace the screen?

HTC Droid Eris :: Water Damage / Turn On But Stuck At Boot Up Screen

Sep 29, 2010

Both of the stickers - the one on my phone, and the one on the battery still have red X's. I have read that this is good. I dropped my phone in a toilet (recently flushed thank god) in the Staten Island Ferry Terminal (see, nothing good comes of traveling to SI!) and grabbed it out as soon as I saw it. I had a plastic case on the back of it. Took it apart as soon as I got my wits about me. And no, I wasn't using it - It flew out of my backpack when I turned around.

It will turn on but has this odd boot up screen. I don't believe rice will get the water out of the inside, and I don't have a screw driver tiny enough. If I bring it to the Verizon store will they know it had water damage from the screen alone? It looks normal almost like the DOS blue screen of death sort. Also, the little tiny green sticker in the lower right hand corner that says VOID - is that a water damage indicator too? I don't recall ever caring what it was.

HTC Hero :: Water Damage / Noticeable Streaks On Screen Otherwise Working Fine

Apr 25, 2010

long story short I dropped my hero into a glass of water while half asleep. I immediately pulled the battery out and threw the whole thing into a bag of rice for 2 days. Pulled it out today and it works. But theres noticeable water streaks on the screen when you look at it from an angle. Will these streaks ever go away? I have insurance, so I can get a new one for 100$ but not sure If I should throw the money at it since it still works perfect, minus these ugly streaks.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Updating Damage Control - Stuck On Bootup Screen

Jul 29, 2010

I rooted my phone (HTC Hero 200 running 2.1) a few days ago, went with Fresh 2.1, but after having some trouble with WiFi Tethering I opted for Damage Control. I did a lot of searching online and found Damage Control 0.999999% and installed it on my phone. It is working okay for the most part, but I found out that there are a number of 2.0 versions out there so I decided I wanted to update to a new version.

1) Version 2.09.1 would not load (and I read that it was unstable so I removed it and rolled back.
2) I went with version 2.08.1 and when I rebooted the phone it would get stuck on the boot-up screen and would not go any further (I went in, wiped the phone, went back to the initial Kernel I installed (2.6.29-8f4e5478 htc-kernel@and18-2 #1), but it still wouldn't work.
3) I research other Damage Control ROMS and went with 2.06.1 Lite to download the DCUpdater, thinking that if I went with this edition I would use it to get to 2.08.1, but same result as before.

Do I need to download a new Kernel? Do I need to start from scratch and root my phone all over again?

Android :: OnStop Does Not Affect MediaPlayer

Oct 12, 2010

I have a mediaplayer object inside an activity that plays from mp3 files situated in the res/raw folder. The MediaPlayer.create(Context context, int resid) method is used to create and return a mediaPlayer object to play this track. What I have noticed is that when the activity is obscured by another activity and hence the "onStop()" method is called , the music continues to play. Can anyone explain why this occurs? I though that onStop would essentially freeze any actions taking place by objects associated with the activity, except for services etc

Android :: How Will WAC Affect Droid App Development?

Feb 16, 2010

I like the idea of the Alliance, it is very logical. It raises a question for me though. How do they intend to run apps seamlessly across multiple operating systems? Will the apps all have to be developed in something like Java? I am studying mobile app development, targeting the Android OS, and using Java. I was about to order a load of books(eg hello android) on developing apps for Android today, but I worry the new Alliance platform/technology might render these books and my initial studies obsolete in some way.

HTC Incredible :: How Does Pre-ordering Affect 30 Day Return Window?

Apr 21, 2010

Verizon's normal return policy is 30 days from date of purchase. Say you pre-ordered the Incredible online on April 19. Does that mean you have 30 days from April 19 to return the phone, or 30 days from the date it was shipped, or 30 days from the date you received it? Anybody know? Also, does Verizon actually have to have received the phone within 30 days for it to count as a valid return, or do you merely have to have shipped it back to Verizon within 30 days (and perhaps they receive it 31 or 32 days after purchase)?

Android :: Side Affect Of Wallpaper Switching App

Jan 13, 2010

I downloaded wall switch, its an app that will automatically switch your wallpaper for you. I had something like this on my pre and loved it. Basically you pick the folder you want it to pick the pictures from, and how often you want it to switch.

Now to the interesting side affect.. One of the settings is Processing method, your choices are auto, crop,or letterbox. If you leave it on auto it places your regular pictures as they should be viewed on your background. It does not force you to crop your picture and end up with a fuzzy picture!

I was super excited when i found this, for years ive had a folder with just pictures i liked to use as backgrounds on my phone. So obviously those pictures wouldnt show the way i would like them to on an android device.

So i figure if you dont want to switch your background but would like it to appear as it should without having to crop it, you could create a folder with 2 of the same picture in it and set it to switch between those...
You might even be able to mess around with the settings and get it to work with just one... im thinking that you may be able to set the switch interval to 0:00 or something like that, but im not sure on that..

General :: How The Apps Affect Battery Usage

Dec 11, 2012

how the Apps affect Battery usage. I'm using a Note 2 with the latest OS.

So, I wanted to know if the apps are still using battery power when I switch screens? When I press the center (home) button, it shows me thumbnail list of all the apps, areas I've been to or used. I can select and remove them from the list. I am wondering if they are still using battery power until I remove them from the list. If this does tend to use extra battery power, is there an app out there that will definitely turn off the app when I am not using it?

I just don't know how Android manages Memory/power. It just seems that I can watch my battery power decrease, even when it's not being used.

HTC Hero :: Changing LCD DPI Settings - Affect Battery Usage Or CPU

Aug 23, 2010

So I changed my DPI setting to 150 since in launcher pro I use 5 rows instead of 4 so it doesn't overlap etc. And wanted to ask if changing the DPI setting may affect the battery usage (recalculating screen) or CPU (making it slower) or the games will lag? etc.

Changed it back, I think was lagging and the text boxes were smaller not on the whole page. And the confirmations had green lines in the middle.
How I did it:
1. Root Explorer , mount R/W in system
2. Open in text editor.
3. Edit the build.prop line with ro.sf.lcd_density=150 and save the file
4. mount R/O and reboot

Still if someone knows something about the battery usage and cpu etc. So I know in future if I should play around with this one.
